I'd love to go, but this conflicts with Prairie. -

I remember something I heard years ago... "When you talk to god, you're praying, but when god talks to you, you're nuts!" -

The last time I saw Mary was at WFFC 2005 when she was pieing me for my 100th jump. It was also the last time I jumped. =( I was really hoping to get recurrent up in Davis, but my cypres is out of date, so it'll have to wait. I'll just take lots of pictures instead. =(

How come the teachers are getting a fair pass? Aren't they the idiots who brought us classics like 'math without wrong answers' and ebonics? Not really. That was more districts and the state, not individual teachers. -

When you talk to the dean, offer to do an independent study in lieu of a traditional phys ed class, and suggest writing a paper about a healthy diet and proper exercise. -

Diabetic skydiver - should I?
Nightingale replied to beginnerr's topic in Skydivers with Disabilities
I know several diabetic skydivers, so it's not an absolute roadblock. Check with your doctor about any potential effects of high altitude and low air pressure on your sugar and insulin levels. -
hehe. I just started another list thread in Events. any list in the original thread is going to get stuck way down on page 2 or 3.

Raising our kids in religion. I'm anti, she's pro
Nightingale replied to Twoply's topic in Speakers Corner
Were you married in the Catholic church? If so, you probably had to sign something or promise something in your wedding that you would raise any children in the Catholic faith. If you made that promise to her, you should keep it. The kids will probably think for themselves eventually anyway, so go ahead and raise them Catholic, but teach them critical thinking and logic so they can examine things for themselves when they are of an appropriate age. Also remember, forcing a kid to go to church is almost a surefire way to make sure they won't continue going as soon as there is nobody dragging them there. I went to a Catholic university, and about 80% of the "confirmed Catholics" there stopped going to church on week 1 of their freshman year. -
So who all is going? I haven't seen a list yet...

Sign up for a driving course and learn how to avoid that situation in the future.

In Catholicism, confirmed means you are an adult in the eyes of the church and may make your own choices. It's technically a confirmation of the baptism (you make your vows for yourself, instead of your parents doing it for you). -
Miss you, Shannon! Happy birthday!

Eric Clapton's "Tears in Heaven" because I sang it at my sister's funeral. It's been 14 years, but it still gets to me. -

In Miami, Spanish Becoming Primary Language

The problem is that these people are not adapting (learning English) and are not being left behind ... I don't see why this is a problem. You can conduct your official government business in English if you want to. No private party is obligated to speak to you in English, and you're not obligated to do business with them in Spanish. If a business owner requires a bilingual employee in order to communicate with his or her customers and you're not bilingual, you don't meet the requirements for the job, so either become bilingual or find a job elsewhere. No business owner is obligated to hire you. -
Start with "Hello." and go from there. If you feel really awkward, carry a loaded pez dispenser and start with "Hey! Want a pez?" Humans tend to bond over food.

Americans skip commercial air travel because of hassles
Nightingale replied to kallend's topic in Speakers Corner
A few years ago, I was all over the idea of flying from SoCal to Washington, and driving to Prairie from there. This year, I'm all for driving all the way, solely to avoid airport hassle. I'd rather pay more in gas and time than deal with airlines, and if I drive, my dog gets to go too, which will save me on kennel costs. Flying with an animal is a hassle!
