  1. Go to law school and take the bar. About everyone I know gained around 30-50 pounds, mostly from stress-eating and sitting on your ass. Or, you could do it the right way and go see your doctor and a nutritionist.
  2. In honor of this ruling, I will be going to the range tonight to exercise my individual Second Amendment rights.
  3. No, not really. If you look at things like the First Amendment right to peaceful assembly, it's been held that states and municipalities can put "reasonable restrictions" on things like "time, place and manner" and require permits for such things. Since the Heller ruling specifically did not extend rights to people who have felony convictions or have been adjudicated mentally ill, a license may be a logical step here, since the presentation of the license would indicate that the person in question has been checked and is not disqualified from purchasing a handgun. It would make things easier on the gun store owners, since they wouldn't need to do their own checking and probably won't be liable for selling to someone who the state has issued a license in error. However, states and municipalities who issue licenses arbitrarily (to campaign contributors and movie stars, for example) would probably run afoul of this, because failing to issue a license to someone for a reason other than that person being unable to legally possess a firearm would be like failing to issue a permit to a group wanting to assemble because, while their speech is lawful, you don't like it.
  4. I'm wondering whether a legal eagle could weigh in on licensing. AFAIK Chicago has a licensing program already but almost never issues licenses except for city councilmen and other servants of the city and state. Does the ruling put any language toward what would be an arbitrary or capricious licensing system? Large registration fees or "education" requirements, etc... I don't doubt the creativity of the Chicago city council. The court held that there is an individual right to bear arms. If you look at past court rulings that have dealt with subjects such as abortion (inferred constitutional right to privacy), the court has stated that restrictions on rights cannot be overly burdensome or unreasonable. It is logical that they would extend the same reasoning to the second amendment. The Heller ruling is really only the tip of the iceberg. Now that we've got the Second Amendment defined as an individual right, states and municipalities are going to be testing the limits as to how far they can go and stay within the bounds of the ruling.
  5. So, we can start packing, as long as its not concealed? I wouldn't advise that. Just because something might be constitutional doesn't mean all the details have been hashed out legally. Practically speaking, to clarify that will take either a change of law in states that currently do not permit open carry, or a plaintiff willing to take it to court, and to have a cause of action, they'd have to show that they personally had been affected by an open carry ban (translation: they probably need to get arrested for carrying openly so they can claim their rights have been violated). Personally, I don't want to be that test case.
  6. My brief glance through the decision didn't seem to confirm right to carry (i.e., lug the thing around you at the mall). The opinion extensively discussed the right to "keep" and "bear", and defined "bear" as carry, but did not extend it to concealed carry.
  7. I'm really curious as to how this will affect non-right to carry states. I see many lawsuits in California's future.
  8. I just sent them an email! Thanks so much for the tip!
  9. Square 1 was the first place I checked, since they're at my home DZ.
  10. It seems like most of the used cypres ads in classified are either want ads or from another continent. I was wondering what the best way to go about purchasing a used cypres is? Should I just start calling random gear stores to see if they have one? I've never really needed to look for used gear before, so I'm not sure where I should start.
  11. It's kinda hard to answer that... I just really felt at home in Dublin. I've got a travel journal on my website that details my trip to Ireland that probably explains it better. www.nightingalesnest.net
  12. Are those the Cliffs of Moher in your avatar? I loved the rain in Ireland. I was there in February and it rained every day, and it made for such a dynamic sky in most of my photos! I loved it!
  13. It requires a more recent version of flash, and I'm not authorized to install. =(
  14. You're missing the part where most people aren't "fixable".
  15. Dublin, Ireland And yes, I'd love to live there.
  16. Learn to successfully walk the fine line between doormat and asshole.
  17. Well, being in southern California, frost is pretty much a non-issue. I'd like to find some plants, like the key lime and the pepper, that yield fruit year round. I'd rather have something that I like produce fruit all year than something I love that only fruits for six weeks.
  18. Work has blocked you-tube. =( I'm thinking of asking my homeowner's association to plant stuff like thornless blackberry and fruit trees instead of the random green stuff we've got all over the condo complex. We're already paying the gardeners to grow stuff, so we might as well grow something useful.
  19. Has anyone else tried this? So far, I've got a blood orange tree that will be yielding fruit this year (although not many; the tree is still young), a habanero pepper plant (currently flowering, so I expect peppers soon, and should get them year round after this), mint and oregano. I also have two potted confederate jasmine plants, just because they smell so pretty. I am thinking of adding a key lime tree because they yield fruit year round, a bell pepper plant (and maybe zucchini?), and some strawberries and tomatoes in hanging baskets, and maybe a pot of English lavender to add to the smell-nice factor. I don't have a lot of floor space, but I do have lots of eave space for hanging baskets, and railing space for planter boxes. I could probably fit 2-3 more pots on the balcony and still have enough space free to keep the balcony usable. The plants I have are doing fabulously, but they're pretty low maintenance and just ask for full sun, fertilizer, and water. Growing this stuff is certainly cheaper than buying it in the long run, and I'm really enjoying gardening so far.
  20. I haven't gotten to a scale, but today I wore a suit to work that I haven't fit into in two years (and it was comfortable too!), so I'm guessing I dropped another few pounds. It's nice to be getting into the old wardrobe again, because I didn't want to purchase all new work clothes. Suits are damned expensive!
  21. +1 If you're busy cheating, you're not working on the relationship you're in and solving the problems that are leading you to cheat. I don't understand why people cheat. It's never occurred to me to do so, so I can't offer any insight there, but the reason people DON'T cheat is that they are committed to their relationship. She's apparently a lot less committed than he is, which is a problem.
  22. So do I I got $10 extra change once, walked about 100 yard trying to justify it to myself, turned around walked back the the shop and handed it back. They thought i was weird I had that happen to me. They put an item in my bag that hadn't scanned and the cashier didn't notice. They looked at me like I was crazy for coming back.
  23. I'd return it if I could, or call the number on the back and report that I'd found it and was going to destroy it.
  24. She came to speak to my dance class in college. She was amazing.
