  3. hey man welcome. im class of 06 here at camp usafa. seeing as you are interested in wings of blue i just thought you should know that prior experience is not a factor at all in getting selected for the team. all that is required is to take the basic parachuting class the summer after your freshman year, thats what i did. then they have a tough selection process that you go through. usually 300 people apply for 50 or less spots. since you are interested i thought you would want the details. i did not go out for the team because i am a gymnast here and i cant do both so i am jumping outside the academy. there are a lot of cadets that go that route. anyways welcome to sky and maybe i will see you a round next year. 4. I just went to wal-mart (the best store it has everything!) I just look around in the sporting good section for about 5 minutes and came out with some gloves that work pretty good. And they were cheap. They had tons of hunting gloves there. I ended up with some neoprene ones, they have worked good the 3 times i have worn them so far. Thats my advice anyways. 5. I dont fear death so much. The thing i fear more is how i die. Im scared of a long painful death, and drowning, for some reason I think that would be a horrible way to go. B Moore 'Turbulence is a bitch'
  6. Hey there and welcome. I will be out at Sky Dive Houston while I am home for the holidays so maybe I will see you there. Have fun. B Moore 'Turbulence is a bitch'
  7. I think the best advice I can give you is relax and concentrate on your body position. 6 out of my 23 jumps have been hop and pops and i think the most important thing is to get in the right position right out of the door. I dont know what kind of exit you are doing but hit that position on exit and you should be fine. That is my advice, take it for what its worth (only 23 jump mind you). Relax and have fun. 8. Cool thanks a lot, I will give some of that stuff a try for sure. I am pretty sure my gear is good for that kind of stuff but i will double check. Thanks again. B Moore 'Turbulence is a bitch'
  9. I have 23 jumps, have my a license, and i almost always end up jumping solo. I have only jumped with someone else once since AFF (4 AFF jumps). It kinda gets lonely out there after a while. Are there any cool things to do by yourself? tricks? exits? something that i havent thought of yet that i could do on my dive.s I dont think i will really have the opportunity to jump with anyone here real soon, arent many fun jumpers out there now that it is cold and all my friends that i started with are still on student status. Anyways I was just wondering if there was something new I could be doing besides the 360's and flips over and over. Thanks B Moore 'Turbulence is a bitch'
  10. Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I talked to the guy at Rigs and Things and he is going to let me exchange the small ones for the large ones. Talk about good customer service, I emailed him tonight at 7 mnt. time (they are in FL) and got a response from Roy within the hour. Thanks again for all of your suggestions. 11. I just bought my own rig and was practicing packing at home and broke a couple bands. I didnt have any extra so I ordered some. Thinking I was ordering the right size I got them today and they are smaller than the ones on my rig (1.25 X 3/8). I have micro-line by the way. Should I replace all of the larger bands with the smaller ones or send them back for bands of the same size that are on my rig? I am pretty sure I shouldnt just replace the ones that broke with smaller ones, unequal tension right? Or am i off the mark with that? Anyways any help would be great. Thanks. 12. I have been reading these and i was just curious about something. At our dz the tandems always get out last due to their higher openings. So why are you Nutz getting out behind the tandems? Especially with your "space shuttle" like fall rate? That has always been my experience, tandems getting out last. Is it different in other dz's? I am assuming it is. Anyways just a thought that crossed my mind B Moore 'Turbulence is a bitch'
  13. For me it was "STAND IN THE DOOR" with the JM finger pointed straight at you. Anyone that has taken AM490 at usafa knows exactly what i am talking about. B Moore 'Turbulence is a bitch'
  14. kjary- Well after 490 I had to MAKE time. I couldn't go out for wings of green because i am an IC gymnast so I manage to get out to canon city about every other saturday. i dont know what is going here with camp usafa, maybe it is getting weak seeing as recognition is "no longer in our vocabulary". 15. I go to the air force academy and during one of our summers we either take a jump course, like i did, or a sail plane course. The people i know that took the sailplane course said they liked it, but i didnt hear anybody coming back to the dorms saying "man that was SWEET ride". I heard people saying that about jump ALL the time. I am sure it is a great experience, but not quite the rush or mind blowing feeling that jumping is. I have never riden in a sail plane so it might be totally awesome. Anyways that my 2 cents, later. B Moore 'Turbulence is a bitch'
  16. I will never forget my first jump, which just happened to be all by my lonesome. I remember the jumpmaster telling me to "Stand In The Door!" I got in the door and hung myself out in the wind, checked in, did the prop up down, let go with my hands and WHAM i was gone. I remember myself falling away from the plane like it was yesterday. It was when i saw that plane growing smaller so quickly that I realized what i was doing. After what seemed like 10 sec (I admit seeing that plane flying away so freaked me out and i lost count) i pulled and was under canopy. After a couple deep breaths i looked around and took in the scenary and I just started screaming at the top of my lungs, I was so excited about what i had just done. And that was when i became hooked. Well thats my story. B Moore 'Turbulence is a bitch'
  17. I had surgery about 3 years ago for my right kidney backing up because my uretur (sp) was blocked off causing my kidney to back up (like a clog making a sink overflow). ANYWAYS i noticed it first when i got this horrible back pain on the right side. I noticed that it didnt matter how i stretched my back it didnt effect the pain at all, thats when i figured it was something else besides a back muscle and went to the doc. I hope everything works out and nothing is wrong. Thats my 2 cents from my experience. B Moore 'Turbulence is a bitch'
  18. Alright thanks a lot. B Moore 'Turbulence is a bitch'
  19. I faxed in my A-license card at the end of Sept. I still havent gotten anything from them in the mail. I received my uspa membership in about 2 weeks after applying for it. How long does it generally take for them to get back to you with your license? I just thought I would ask before I called them. I just want to make sure they have it because the requirements changed Oct. 1st and I dont want to end up having to go through all the new stuff. Anyways thanks a lot. Have a good one. 20. Now I never the basics out at my present DZ. I did the AM 490 program at the air force academy. I must have done at least 100 PLFs before my first jump. I thought they were pretty pointless, I figured I'm a gymanst I know how to freakin fall. But sure enough on my first I flared about 10 feet too high and came crashing in. The guy on the radio had time to verbally tell me I needed to PLF. I PLFed, hit like a rock, but got up and walked away. I never said anything bad about PLFs after that B Moore 'Turbulence is a bitch'
  21. It took me right at 20. I did my 19th and 20th on Sept 28th and got the application in the next day, just before the deadline
  22. I came out of it for under 2 grand $900-used Vector II, PD 190, raven $650-used cypres $250-helmet, alti etc. $1800 B Moore 'Turbulence is a bitch'
  23. What did the fish say when it swan into the wall?? DAMN! Compliments of B Moore
  24. Cant say a i know a Necissary but I will keep my eyes open. I'm sure i will stop by aggieland while i am up there, I have friend that goes to school up there. I saw the pics of your truck on another post. My friend up there has a Nissan that he has built up. So if you see a Nissan that looks like a tonka truck with a flat bed and spray on bedliner over the body thats him. Its kinda hard to miss if you ever see it. Thanks for the info. B Moore
  25. Hey everyone, I am Brian and I just recieved my A license 2 weeks ago from Skydive the Rockies in Colorado. I got my start at the Air Force Academy this summer. I completed their AM 490 basic freefall course and got hooked. I am looking forward to heading home to Houston to do some dives over x-mas and my other breaks. Any one know anything about Skydive Houston? It is 15-20 minutes from my house. Well thats my story. Take care. B Moore 'Turbulence is a bitch'
