  7. Oh, the happiness! I finally get to vote in my own poll, as I just got back from my qualifying jump! so, I went S,E,A,B - just like you, t. thanks, Hunter, Red Fox and Lulu Fox for tonight.. my night BASE is looking like this: A,B, I have no idea if I'll get to my night E or S first. that B tonight sure was scary, though.... scary, but good! soon to be gone
  8. yeah, what Helge said. I have a Sony PC105 and for what you want to do it works like this: -insert memory stick in camcorder -switch camcorder on and to VCR mode -cue the tape to the frame you want to capture as a still -pause the tape there -press the photo button and keep in untill a little icon appears on screen to indicate capture to the memory stick -you can capture video the same way by pressing the record button iinstead of the photo button now, you need the camcorder-to-USB cable that came with your camcorder, although they seem to be a standard that comes with most digital still camers too switch your camcorder to memory mode connect your camcorder to your PC with this and install/download USB driver if needed (I found one that worked on the net) now you can access your memory stick as if it is an external USB drive - you can read and write to/from it have fun.... soon to be gone
  9. OK Jimmy, brother First, I don't know you, I haven't met you, I don't have many BASE jumps (84) or skydives (414) and I haven't been in the sport of BASE jumping for more than a little over a year..... BUT, I read a lot, I try to be well informed about most things, especially BASE, my eyes and brain work just fine, so does my video camera and I happened to have spent a week or two in TF over summer, SO: Please see below for some FACTS that contradict some of your erroneous statements. it's spelled like this: ridiculous NO, he doesn't. The first time I met Miles was at the visitor centre parking lot. I introduced myself and he was really friendly to me. He was just prepping two students to do their first BASE jumps, which would incidentally also be their first parachute descents, at least this is what they told me, as did Miles. So I got geared up, strolled out with them and some other folks on a lovely sunny day and did some BASE jumps. I have video. I also have video of his students' 2nd jumps, front flip TARDS - now that's some kind of student progression, eh? By the way, they were on squares and the sum of their protective equipment was this: boardshorts..... I also happen to know PERSONALLY of at least one more student of Miles' with no skydives. I'm sure there are more. NO, I don't have him confused with Shane, whom I met at BD, I can tell them apart. Jimmy, buddy. I've seen people exceed 20 seconds canopy flight at TF. I've seen plenty of people fly into dangerous areas at TF. And I've seen people get hurt even landing in the water. Those, Jimmy, are the FACTS, as witnessed by me (and many others), as captured on video by me (and many others). Please do not make statements, that are contrary to facts that can be proven, even in defense of your dear friend, ethically-challenged Miles D. This is a valuable thread, let's try to keep the personal opinions at bay and stick to the facts and productive, intelligent correspondence. all the best sam soon to be gone
  10. Nac, thanks for the heads-up, but I knew that, being from South Africa (PAL) originally. I have a NTSC PC 105, and I've done NTSC-PAL firewires before, so I really wouldn't mind having a PAL camera, even though I now live in a NeverTheSameColour country - one of each will be useful, plus there's always editing software to convert PAL-NTSC if I need to. soon to be gone
  11. I have an observation about this. I have a NTSC PC105 and couldn't get it to play on a TV using the A/V out while visiting S.A. It was an old TV, so it didn't support NTSC playback. One of the other jumpers had a PAL Sony camcorder ( I forget what model), so he showed me what worked. We firewired from my NTSC camcorder to his PAL camcorder, from which he outputted A/V to the TV and it played fine. So, from this I can only assume that the output from his camcorder was PAL, or the TV would've done the same as it did with my NTSC A/V output. This thread indicates that he would've recorded pin NTSC if he recorded the signal to tape on his camcorder. Does this sound right? soon to be gone
  12. anyone have any info on the following: 1 - availability and prices of PC105 and PC105E cameras? (I believe these will all be used, no one should still have new ones.) 2 - availability and prices of PC330 and PC330E cameras? (mostly used, but new if you could find any) I have a PC105 I'm considering selling (but likely keeping) and I'm considering getting a used PC330. thanks soon to be gone
  13. Ray I have never met you and I realise I'm a very inexperienced and probably not very knowledgeable jumper, BUT I have to disagree with your statement below: I'm pretty sure the rail is not steel! soon to be gone
  14. OK, why not? everyone seems to like the smiley face.... soon to be gone
  15. yes. on the S3, look from inside the suit, between the two rows of tabs for the armwing release, just under your armpit and you will see it there soon to be gone
  16. hey I have a bulletcam set-up too and found it work just fine with my S3. I have a Sony PC105, though, quite small, so I pack the hip-bag really small and wear it under my suit, across my chest, so the camera etc sits under my left armpit, this way nothing sticks out from the suit, you can mount the bulletcam on your left hand, foot, helmet, wherever and it didn't inhibit my arm movements. not real comfortable on the plane, though... just my 2 cents cheers sam soon to be gone
  17. hi If you're living in Canada and going to bridge day this year, please drop me a line. thanks! sam soon to be gone
  18. looks like they use Hydrogen Peroxide and some Ester, from this: http://www.omniglow.com/experiment.html they claim it's non-toxic too: http://www.omniglow.com/faq.html#toxic here's the REAL interesting stuff, though: BOVINE BEACON! http://www.bovinebeacon.com/ isn't the internet great? cheers psi Looms? That's likely "Cyalume." My guess is it comes from "cyano," as in cyanide, but I haven't investigated quite what chemical reaction results in light emission. I would, however, advise against eating the stuff. Blue skies, Winsor soon to be gone
  19. that's what happened on one of our rodeo jumps where my buddy deployed off my back, his foot tapped mine on the way off and he got something like 8 full linetwists (see attached pic) hot tip though - he wore his freefly pants OVER his legstraps to minimize snag potential soon to be gone
  20. A few months ago a foreign(french?) 4 way team smoked it down and all had cypress fires. However, all of their reserves did not deploy from the Mirages they were jumping. They all realized what had happened and deployed their mains and landed safely. So yes, it has happened. OK, here's a question: From what you say in the other post, it sounds like the reserve containers stayed closed, how could they realize that their Cypreses had fired if their reserves did not deploy? Or am I just reading it wrong and they all realized they went low, but everyone went for the main anyway? more details would be appreciated soon to be gone
  21. hey Tom! thanks for posting your review you seem quite impressed with this canopy - are you back up to 4 a day now? did you compare it to your Fox because they are closer in size than your other canopies? seeing as I've only BASED my Blackjack, I'd love to hear how you'd compare the Rock Dragon to that anyways, keep up the good work! see you around sam soon to be gone
  22. let me prove you right then! it's ALL about sharing experiences, that's just what all the experienced people here are doing (not counting me, I know I'm inexperienced), sharing their experiences in skydiving with you... please keep sharing your experiences with us! it makes for some of the most exciting reading on here, and I for one will post no more words of caution, having said all I feel is appropriate, I am now a spectator... BSBD sam (a not-so-proud member of the titanium club) soon to be gone
  23. here's an idea buddy, next time, why don't you just pull your reserve instead of your main? from your profile it's a 150 compared to a 170, so obviously it should give you a much longer swoop, and you'll look real cool too, just like the pro-swoopers with no bag-bridle-PC on the canopy... joking aside, as in most things in life, but especially in skydiving you can observe the following pattern: * experienced persons perform advanced manoeuvres * inexperienced persons emulate the experienced persons and attempt similiar advanced manoeuvres or express interest in doing so * most inexperienced persons have the good sense to listen to the experienced persons when coached on doing these manoeuvres or working up to them * some inexperienced persons figure experience means nothing and chooses to ignore the advice of experienced persons * these inexperienced persons who chose not to listen end up in exactly the situation the experienced people tried to help them avoid - be that embarrased, injured or dead of course, there will be exceptions, but they are very rare and counting on being the exception is like counting on winning the lottery for your retirement plan I'm sure you can see where you fit in that pattern going by your posts. I don't know if you've ever fractured anything or gotten seriously hurt, trust me when I say it's worth avoiding it..... keep this up and not only will you be lucky to survive your imminent injuries, you will get no sympathy from anyone due to your attitude soon to be gone
  24. quade that is very interesting do you know of a source for s-video output bullet cams? or even better, do you know if it is possible to have bulletcam with Sony CCD converted to S-video output and where/how? and just to ask this again: anyone know of a cheap source for those damned new Sony A/V cables with the stoopid D-plug? thanks soon to be gone
  25. clicky: (just hit the 'url' button below the text box before and after the URL of the page you want to link to) http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1143436;search_string=teardrop%20;#1143436 yeah, I agree, I don't like the RSL set-up - I got one with my SF and had it removed after about 60 jumps or so I would say it's no real issue for me, get a Cypres, don't get the RSL and never rely on any device like that anyway. I don't believe there's one rig that's way above evrything else in safety, durability, craftsmanship, funcionality etc. rather, there are many good ones, with some differences that make them better suited to different people back-up service means a LOT soon to be gone
