  1. What do you do to disconnect and go into freefall again? What suit?
  2. Your ways sound just fine. I like that you transfer the info. for the customers sake. It would suck for a customer to get charged extra for some missing SB on a new card that is or should be on the old card.
  3. Thanks for helping to understand the pros and cons of such device. Have you ever encountered a jumper that supposedly 'counted' come too close for comfort for you? How many times? Got any suggestions?
  4. Sorry. What billvon said about going head low is more correct. I'm sure you can and this may be a silly question, can you visualize the angle your parachute deploys in relation to your body/container during the pull time you described?and i described? and Do you spread your arms and continue full birdman flight after you throw the pilotchute? Do you know at what angles if any are more hazardous?
  5. thanks. i'll continue to attach data cards and detach them as necessary.
  6. Consistency on jumprun would be nice. The speadsheet/countdown timer/ a/c groundspeed. All these things could add up to a safer margin than there is now. Do you think so?
  7. [re] 'SHIT THATS CLOSE' .... You know exactly what i'm scared of! It's very possible we've met. I live in Elsinore and jump there from time to time. Surf alot nowadays. Do Rigging alot as well. The countdown timer: A fella mentioned just that on a previous thread/post, it might be in the thread about 45 degree...got me going on it. Not sure of any DZ using such device. Would like to know so as to learn the pros and cons and possibly being able to implement. I don't have a problem giving separation between the group ahead of me, its the ones behind me that have scared the liv'n shit out of me. Still happens occasionaly, surprised that it still happens. Skydiving has evolved in many ways, would like this issue to evolve as well.Would like to make the separation issue easy to understand/perform without fail.
  8. Let me apologise now riggerob for anything i say here that may be miconstrued i'm only using your post to put this out there. On packing data cards: Whether a set of data cards are sewn, stapled, hotglued, bound, or left seperately i believe the riggers and owners of gear should make an attempt to keep the history of the gear with the gear.If cards are attached i like to be able to easily seperate the cards in case reserve canopy is sold or transfered to other gear because the data card goes with the reserve canopy. In the past records have been easily lost by leaving data cards seperate. I believe that multiple parachute data cards are better kept with the gear and attached together w/o destroying them and easy to use and read for the users/ gear checkers. I believe attaching cards is neither legal nor illegal, it comes down to rigger preference. Either way is fine.
  9. Like the other fellas said. can put you in headown more exciting opening. I don't know if i'm doing it right either. Here's my favorite way now: Having the idea of the rig being parallel to the earth during deployment sequence. Here's how: Begin in full birdman flight.Wave off by collapsing/opening all wings simultaneously 3 times (causing decrease of forward speed/increasing descent rate and letting others know it's pull time). Collapse all wings grabbing main p/c at the same time bringing knees toward my chest(leg wing collapsed/feet knees together increasing descent rate possibly decreasing burble) throw out p/c maintaining body position. Grab harness near 3 ring, be ready for anything. Now, once I throw out p/c if nothing happens in a timely manner, I spread wings making a mad dash for forward speed, be ready for anything. Best advice i could give is to continue to pull above 4,000 ft till you really get the pull sequence down. However you do it.
  10. I like and have used both methods as you have been taught also. So far so good. I'd still like the seperation isssue to be easily understood and used appropriately. Got alot of jumps and seems i've been using/telling the 45 degree myth and trusting it. Seems to be the most common terms used nowadays regarding seperation at the turbine dz's i jump. I like the idea of a countdown timer at the door. The more i think about it, the more cost effective and bulletproof it becomes. Judging seperation should be easy. Not as scared of the up jumper as i am the oh so excited/ nervous newbies. Being an up jumper i'd like to relay most proper info regarding seperation. That's the main reason for this thread.
  11. Have been in similar situations in the past. Good going being heads up! Back in the day FF went before RW, 8way Rw broke off, had to be right above me as they tracked by every side of my canopy. eeerie. After I opened, stayed flying into wind directly up the line of flight pretty much sitting still. Learned that upon opening should fly crosswind or downwind and crosswind to clear more airspace also.We all made it, learned and made changes to exit order right away. Since then have been in similar conditions as you were leaving similar separation, worked well.
  12. No kidding. What approx. were the winds aloft? Consitent direction? I'd assume the PAC 750's drag is similar to a Pilatus Porter. Jumped Porter not PAC in similar scenario long ago. Airspeed high, groundspeed sooo slow almost setting still over the ground. So you pretty much waited till 1st group opened and flew out from under your opening area, is that close to right?
  13. Sounds like a fun 182 DZ! Do you really wait for the plane to land before you start packing?
  14. Thanks, I figured there was a well thought reason for not doing crosswind jumpruns.
  15. Birman? 1 and half minutes is a very long time between groups. Balloon jump? what A/C?
  16. For $30, would you expect to have the steering lines untangled? In some cases twisted brake lines form a set. When untwisted they will knot more easily. At that point i'd look into line set or changing just the brake lines up to the split. Judgement call. Had this been the case the rigger could've made more money ,unless of course he had a school jump to make.
  17. NelKel you ask this on another thread, the answer is there and is still the same. Do you have something to add to this thread? Are you looking for some other type of argument?
  18. 125 gps ground speed 3 sec for .1 mi sep, 5 sec for.2mi sep. etc.
  19. Mr. or Mrs. Rorschach. Damn Stripper, Ass licker! All the ink blots shown were all about ass licking strippers and butterflies!
  20. Taking the first line 125 3 5 8. Is 125 ground speed? 3 5 8 being the .3mi next group .5mi next group .8mi.?
  21. Argh! security settings won't allow the spreadsheet, can you email it to me please?
  22. Be observant of the threads concerning separation and you may know even more! I've been an avid jumper for many years, seen changes in skydivers school of thought and SIM over time concerning many parts of skydiving. When on the A/C looking back at the young jumper, what they do for separation has scared the living crap out of me. Having assessed the things about skydivers that scare me most, separation takes top honors.
  23. Become the anal bastard riggers buddy. I'd bet that when the anal bastard says 'this needs fixed' his customer believes in his opinion and gets the work done without much hassle. Learning to be a parachute rigger is good for a jumper whether or not they become a rigger. I can understand working with detail oriented people. It's difficult to accept anything less. Sounds as if the jumper we are referring to understands a bit of rigging. He seems to definately understand the required pin test. His knowledge may have saved him $10. Good on him.
