  1. I would'nt unfasten the chest strap though.
  2. No fatalities is the best news. Thanks. If a pilot tells jumpers to jump, hope for altitude, jump. Happened to me once while leaving boogie. Pilot gave me a choice to land with or jump this began between 1800 and 2000 feet, was out by 1500feet. cleared a/c,pulled main, watched a/c dive. we landed similar time, him on runway, me in field. Replaced alternator, he ask if i was ready to go I ask him to test fly and come back to pick me up. From then on it was all good. Listen to the pilot, they may very well save your life.Ballsy pilot for going down with his ship. Do the jump pilots in Australia wear parachutes? Good pilot considering the situation.
  3. Reading this post provides some very helpful hints for landing out decision making. On PD's website there is good info regarding accuracy and the long spot, great short reads i'd suggest. Once the decision to land out has been made collect data asap. Where? open area near road/pathway. Obstacles? look and look again. Power lines/ fences? Looking for poles/paths in landscape. Winds? Like billvon mentioned 'know wind direction prior to leaving the ground',it helps. Look for water, can see wind on water. Learn how to read wind on water. Under canopy ground speed check. Figure out which direction forward speed is slowest. Try to know by 1500 feet. Prepare for PLF, walk away.
  4. I'd bet either DZ has a similar chance of flying Teus. or Wed. With the rescent rain each DZ has pros and cons. At Perris prepare to get a little muddy. Elsinore has much grass, prepare to get a little wet. No matter what, if jump planes are flying at either Dz you have the opportunity for some fun airtime.
  5. The dolly/ kamikaze take off. Saw some show on History or military channel using such device for the rocket powered a/c. Amazing. The acceleration speed/lift seemed easily attained. Did'nt know such device was used for kamikaze missions.
  6. There are some good ones there TK. I like ' Z lounge', maybe modified to 'Z Sky Lounge'. 'TK's' is a real good one too. Making it easy to say is a plus. I'd bet you'll be directing 1st timers there since your AFF training is there also. Glad to hear your adding more goodness to your DZ. Have a great '06
  7. Happy New Year Mad John! Party like Byron does? Sounds like a helluva good time! Enjoy the cheese baskets, sweets, and booz!
  8. Are you talking of a device similar to a catapult used on Aircraft Carriers?
  9. Is ther a high cliff at the end of the a/c launch point?
  10. That fire would be between I 75 and Sapulpa , right?
  11. Jumping in Skiatook?
  12. Have experienced heightened senses due to major adrenaline rush. Rarely happens but has happened on a few occasions. Upon landing after an unbelievable senseless act the air smells and tastes sweeter, colors dense, body buzz'n. Pure adrenaline from within has had the most affect on the senses, no doubt. Has happened when the holy freak'n sh*** can't believe it happened and i made it type of experience. Hot glue? Had a buddy smelled burning nylon upon landing. He had struck a wall 6 times landed sitting up concious and broken. His container had melted a bit during his wall strikes and talus slide. He made it!
  13. Are you freaking kidding me!!!!! Low life fu***rs still do that? I can't believe someone would do that. Freaky to say the least. You were smart in having gone to a party with a few people who really care about your well being. Glad to hear you and yours made it to the new year. In case you missed it last night for obvious reasons, HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
  14. It's raining in SoCal, I sooo much wish it was raining in OK and TX. Hopefully this moisture will carry across with the low jet stream.
  15. Just talked to my folks that live in Sapulpa next to Tulsa. There are fires in Kellyville,Bristow, and Drumright area. As well there are fires near OKC. My mom and dad can smell smoke from the fires in Kellyville Bristow and Drumright. Very worried, checking outside alot.
  16. Yahoo! So far Skyfest is the only boogie i'll actually travel to this year thanks to you and J. I was just visiting last night with friends about SCR ceremonies and stuff. Some people don't even know what they are missing! Think i might get my SCR and SCS patches out of my first logbook and sew them onto my camera wings 'cause of J too. Blind folded packing contest anyone?
  17. Happy New Year Jaime! Had I not waited to get the D license when i qualified for it the # would have been under 10,000. i remember when D 10,000 came along . Had over 700 jumps before getting the D. It finally rained here in SoCal! Now i can finally catch up on work! Too many nice days tends to = too much surfing and not enough working. Skyfest bound!!!!!
  18. lol, Thanks for the crackup! Observant little one! I'd bet the kid would make a good packing weight then packer too!
  19. Other than 'be the TM first, then..' and 'dressing for success' you as a vidiot knows about lighting. And as a vidiot you already understand the slot. In air communication such as pointing a direction to get good light from CM and the yo were way out and pulling high finger from the TM is good extras. As a vidiot i feel part of my duty is to assist the TM.Whether it is viual checks, harness adjustments questions(it makes a student as well as me nervous when the shoulder harness keeps falling off on the way to and in the a/c), making a clear path to the door i.e. seat belts, comforting a nervous student so they don't puke on the a/c, yelling at the students over the wind noise in the door to cross their arms while they try grabbing things while getting in the door and the TM has already told them and is not seeing the grabbing etc. Knowing the size/weight helps me (the vidiot)to dress for success. Because of your experience as a vidiot shooting tandems i'd bet that you'll be a great TM. You'll naturally assist the CM even when solely focused on TM stuff. Enjoy!
  20. Getting into swooping is like getting into BASE jumping. Be the ground crew, an observant for a while. I came from the 'banned hook turn days'. Having survived many lewd, flying idiot approaches and landings the acceleration and learning has continued without having downtime from injury or death. KnockOnWood. Part of my own approach since beginning skydiving has been about 'risk management'. Cardinal rule #1 Don't die, #2 Don't get injured. To avoid the pitfalls of rule #1 & 2 treat each crazy stunt as a stunt. Overcome the hazards than can kill you and injure you, once thought out thoroughly. Go on with the wickedness. Fortunately in the era we live in now there is much education available to pilots, which i believe is due to the accetptance that hookturns/swooping is actually a part of skydiving.Had hookturns not been banned back in the day(even though i was the all-time rule breaker)I imagine i'd either be dead or at the cutting edge of the swoop games. Somewhere along the way swooping was an unworthy cause to perform aerial tricks for others. Having been in swoop comps in the past I learned that I really love flying parachutes and the aerial tricks is truly for my own selfish enjoyment always has been.Nowadays it is fairly rare to hear the term 'hookturn', has been replaced with 'swooping'.
  21. Just kidding! Last night at a friends house the dogs were outside and werent obeying their master, we joked of the dogs flirting with the locals for fun conversation.
  22. On the road again? What's up dude? I'd like to visit with you again about the GK stilleto's. Have a Happy New Year!
  23. Goals for '06. All the usualls that pertain to 1. injury free year, 2 no dying. On a lighter note jump for fun,get that digi still cam, jump a paraglider, form a CRW team, numerous downplanes, give back to the sport by assisting in the development of young riggers, vidiots, swoopers, belly fliers, freefliers, staff and students, jump into my old high school football stadium. Rather than train all year with a 4 way team like past years, i'd like to go to Nationals in Eloy with a young fun jumper team with a coach/player 4 way jumper. I like to see the acceleration in flying and the exhileration of accomplishing a hard move for the young 4way jumper.
