  1. overcooking. I'd suggest working with scrap first.
  2. (Also remember that sewing binding tape on over top of stiffeners requires a highly experienced sewing machine operator.) Thanks for the compliment. Just did several stiffener/binding/grommet jobs this past week. I get hired by people to do that particular job often.
  3. Hey Miami, my rigging rates are like yours hehehehe. You really enjoy the racer too?
  4. Got a few pics. couple of great in action prints. it's a good time to change canopies when i've saved money up for just that purpose. Buy new? Are you kidding me? i can buy a flight around the globe for less than that! For $2,000 I can go to sweet surf spot with hot chicks and good food for a month at least! Got 5 mains how many more do i need? The Alpha is the most retired. I have a friend that took his stilleto over 3,000 jumps! Some wings still perform well even with porosity. Some don't, like the Alpha.
  5. was driving near vista today. went surfing at seaside reef. Do you surf? Life Tech?
  6. Mr. Viking, young rabbit! CrazyL's profound rules to live by: 1.Don't get injured, don't die. 2.Treat every skydive as a stunt, think of the disasterous possibilities, overcome the things that can injure you, overcome the things that can kill you, once thought through, go on with the wickedness! Rise to the occasion and get on with your bad self.
  7. (Hard to keep track of...femur) You catch on quick! So just why have i spent much time with the same canopies rather than swaping them around a bunch. Hmmm.
  8. Your absolutely right! No doubt that custom gear made by the manufacturer is gonna fit great. When it comes to comfort though, even with a perfect fitting harness a rig can still be not as comfy as another rig. If I had to choose fit for comfort(comfort within reason) I have to choose fit. Vectors can be like a brick when packed, they tend to pull my shoulders back. Mirage, if anything there is a little fit thing at the hips, sometimes the leg pads pinch my boys. Youch! Racer, uhh can you say 'the most comfortable rig on the market'! The old ones anyway,i don't know much about the new ones ,have'nt tried one on.
  9. Have thought of getting a samurai for sure. Other canopies as well. Hell if i had it my way i'd have more canopies for occasions as kelly slater has surfboards. And to live my life flying parachutes. What a joy!
  10. It's breaktime , yes. Surfing in the winter here kicks ass! Last year I accumulated several minor injuries doing both surfing and skydiving. If i'm in SoCal i'm as active as can be and don't give my body much rest. Left here for 4 weeks visiting people partly so i would heal up by being less active in the sports. Today was my first day back home and i was surfing over shallow reef with waves head high+. Ya I could hit the reef too hard and re-injure my feet. I could go for a rio then air railgrab and hyper extend my middle finger again, ya whatever. See,when the opportunity to play hard in these sports is there so am I ready and willing.
  11. So many of the jumps i've looked forward to flying the canopy. part of the learning and acceleration process for me is to go to the sky with tasks in mind to do with the canopy no matter what type of skydive.A big part of my passion for skydiving has and still is the parachute ride.
  12. Guess i've been pretty lucky to have had the experience with gear.
  13. I'd like to jump with Andy atleast once! Over the dropezone that i've enjoyed some great airtime, mostly due to him. Politics here in SoCal has gotten really thick. Seems like there is a new story of 'a good guy got shit on' about every week.
  14. I had spoke to Brian last year about it. He and I have worked together in the past making parachutes. To reduce the costs, I ask Brian if he would supply the cut canopy and I would do the rest. I'm totally capable. He had some wierd thoughts, something about copying(which i really dont care about) and would rather me buy one of his latest achievements.
  15. contact info is updated and an email to you with my cell phone.
  16. Ya,your right! Something about these old rags really gets me going. I've flown many parachutes in various ways, some unorthadox as well and am capable of getting really creative with flying them. Have you ever got a piece of gear skydiving related or not that you and the gear perform well together right from the start? That the gear was everything you thought it could be and more?
  17. Hehehe. Get'n back in the salt water tomorrow J. Sooo ready! Head high + surf in SoCal, yahoo. Sure i'll be choking up buckets of salt water throughout the day, as well as post nasal drip, and love'n it! As far as harness resizing you are right on. There are several qualified riggers such as myself included but is still a better bet to send to the mfr.
  18. John who? What the heck does that guy know about parachutes anyway? hehehe. Actually it can be done. With more weight and/or changing the brake setting to be in more full flight during opening. Turning on opening is a different story. Not saying that it can be done for all Sabre 2's, I just know of 1 that the brake setting change worked with. John is pretty much right on the mark though. Is'nt the Sabre 2 pretty much designed to open with end cells closed a bit?
  19. I for one believe the manufacturers are currently and have done their very best to keep parachutists with their equipment during freefall and under canopy all the way to landing on the earth. In short , it's called a 'harness'. Harness is made of tested mil-spec webbing capable of withstanding loads up to 254lbs on most equipment. Proper 'sizing of the harness' is very important for holding ones body sufficiently. Adjusting of a properly fitted harness is even more important before leaving an aircraft. Let's use an analogy, jeans. If your waist size is 32inches you may wear a size 31 to 33 fairly easily. The jeans are within a comfortable range to wear. Any larger or smaller, adjustments will more than likely need to be made for them to fit properly. As for a parachute harness there is little adjustment but first the harness must be within a range to fit properly. Gear is sometimes sold or rather bought by persons even if the harness does not fit correctly, even student harnesses are sometimes too large for smaller persons. As far as I know, all harness/container manufactuerers have and will resize or replace a harness in a rig to more properly fit the user of the equipment. Also manufacturers go to great lengths in making and revising manuals concerning the equipment, which many a skydiver has yet to read, and some riggers for that matter.
  20. 2 ways are where it's at bro. I hope you understand how dangerous the variance in speeds can be ie.. sit to belly. Homey is right about the torso being the largest wing that you are flying here. Makes since that if your torso is entirely vertical with the earth you would then be falling straight down. Give the torso an angle to deflect the air and your a traveller. Moving forward is similar to backsliding in the angle respect. It is pretty easy to backslide and inadvertantly go to your belly while still looking at your flying buddy as separation occurs. Sit flying should come easy, I mean, have'nt you been sitting on your ass kicking back for a lot of your life. Dude, I practice sitting on my ass everyday dreaming of flying! Similar to sit flying right? Work your posture bro, the better your posture the better you can fly!
  21. Synthetic? or Natural? 5w 30? 10w 40? 80w 90? wipe it off as soon as possible, then call the manufacturer as soon as possible.
  22. Ahh, you must be referring to the Raven series. Are you looking to use a Raven as a BASE canopy? Once upon a time while visiting a very old used to be DZO.He told me stories of the fraudelent school that used Ravens as mains and reserves and switched them around instead of buying other newer mains. He mentioned that there were new mains in the reserve container and at a point in time the reserves were old ragged out mains, which of course is a big no no. Both older Raven 220's fly the same. What a deal! Most newer reserves today aren't made like they used to. If your looking to get into BASE, go for the more specifically designed gear for BASE. If it's skydiving your after, go for the gear designed for skydiving. Sounds like your after the 'one rig does it all' i.e. skydiving and BASE.
  23. The way I use bands is to single stow all locking stows with correct size bands, then single double triple the rest except for the very last stow.
