  1. Must be great to live your life in fear of a non-existant boogey man. I'll pass thank you. I gave up on the snake oil many years ago.
  2. It happens from time to time in rare cases. It's the downside of making it easily field replaceable, but as mentioned, it's quite rare for it to happens, and doesn't affect function in any way. A call to the factory will get it replaced FOC for you.
  3. No shit. I gave away three of them in the last year. They were a great rig for their day, but time has moved on. If you want any questions answered about them, the designer of the rig posts here as riggermick.
  4. I saw an interview with Paul McCartney where he was asked if he would ever consider going down on one knee again. His reply ? "Fuck that, I'm divorcing that bitch"
  5. Actually, I think we're in agreement from reading your reply. Part of the problem may be that so few people log any more. I still log every jump longhand in a logbook, and know exactly how many jumps I have on each canopy. Most people I jump with have no idea of how many jumps they or their equipment have on it. I think that's where spectra may have the upper hand. It actually has the good manner to look worn out when it is
  6. So do I. Doesn't make me Satan though. Just makes me someone happy to see someone surface into the light of reason and become a full member of the human race. Ahhh organized religion. A nice slow moving simpleton to poke with a stick.
  7. I'm not the angry one with the point to prove. I'm goint to go outside in this beautiful Fl. sunshine, play in my garden for a while, and just enjoy the goodness and blessings of the God that I believe in. Good for you. When you get back inside I have some magical beans to sell you.
  8. I have nearly 7000 jumps on spectra lined stilettos. I've never had any issues with them. I usually reline them when the nose profile is obviously out of trim, at around 6-700 jumps. If you are loading your canopy very highly, then small differences in trim will have larger results in the canopies opening and flying characteristics. I load mine at about 1.8 and they fly fine for a very long time. I've seen much smaller stilettos that were being highly loaded in the mid 2's to 3's develop interesting behavior when only slightly out of trim. That's not a reflection on the properties of spectra, but more a comment on how much more maintenance needs to be scheduled for a canopy that is intentionally pushed to the limit of it's design. That isn't going to change no matter what lineset is on it. I've seen people badly bitten by thinking kevlar/vectran/HMA will solve that particular problem. With spectra, you can see your maintenance issue arriving. With vectran, you tend to see it after it arrives. It's a lot easier to replace a line set that looks worn than one that doesn't but is actually past it's replacement date. I saw old skydivexxl's Velocity literally explode a month ago. That got his attention. Looked just fine when he was packing it.
  9. I'd label you with "return to sender" based on the confused rambling of your posts. If there was a god, he'd have to have a busy returns dept to handle all the breakdowns in his followers. Just queue up quietly behind Foley and Haggard and they'll get to you when they can.
  10. It's great watching creationsists argue about science, because it's clear that they haven't actually done any real reading on the subject for the most part. The one's that do realize what a crock of shit original creation theory is, so now we get creation theory lite, otherwise known as intelligent design. It's a tired attempt to try to incorporate the bits of science that they can no longer dispute, such as the age of the earth, and the development of the genome. It's still the same old bullshit though. Still, it beats doing any real thinking though. Once people have signed on to the big lie of religion, it's easy to radicalize them and sell them anything. I shall change this view only when I see an atheist strap on a bomb vest because of their lack of belief. But I digess, as I like to do. Now back to your regular programming.
  11. Watching people argue about religions is like watching two retarded 4 years olds arguing about who has the best imaginary friend.
  12. Look to Reagan for inspiration ? I guess we'll see the congressional republicans soiling themselves and talking to their lamp stands soon then. Ba-dum tish.
  13. More so if you are poor and republican it seems. http://www.straightdope.com/columns/061110.html It's nice to know that only Turkey stops us from being the dumbest people on the planet.
  14. Just because you think it's a strawman doesn't make it not true - sorry. You're going to have to try a little harder than that if you want to be taken seriously. Have a go at explaining your original assertion that Al Qaeda and Hamas are pleased at the change of control in Congress, and how they profit from congressional oversight. As you know, argument by assertion really isn't that convincing. As a bonus, the war is lost. Both republicans and democrats agree on this in principle. The question now is not how it can be won, but how the US can withdraw as gracefully as possible with the least amount of bloodshed.
  15. Strawman argument. Bush stills controls the military and sets policy. He's just going to have to justify it now instead of just plowing ahead regardless, and wasting lives. As for AQ and Hamas being pleased. It would be hard to imagine them being any less pleased than by the recruitment bonaza that GWB's excercises in foreign policy have been for them. The last thing they would want is the congressional oversight that's going to occur. This administration has radicalized thousands of muslims. We'll be paying that price for a generation or more, no matter who sits in the White House.
  16. Well, the GOP are fucked now, because the house, senate and the majority of governerships are now in the hands of the Democrats, and nobody put them there but themselves with their hubris. Add to this, them forcing Rumsfeld to walk the plank in a typically brazen act of cowardice, and it's just been a delightful couple of days for us liberals. I'm sure more culling is to follow. For all you conservatives lashing out here because you're upset that your racehorse lost, just grow up. You didn't show any more class when the situation was reversed. Now there's going to be congressional oversight, and lots of it. That can only be good for our system of government, and for the American electorate as a whole.
  17. a) It's stupid on it's face. b) Because there is no shortage of idiots in the world. Apparently there's at least 3.4 billion of them.
  18. Yep, that was me. However, the fourth time, they laid everyone off, but they needed us to stay for 9 months to convert all the systems to the new company. If we didn't stay, they were fucked. They put together a package so lucrative, that I paid off the mortgage with it. They actually paid me to come in for months after they switched off the system for reasons that were never quite explianed. I just watched movies all day. After I left, they continued to pay me for six months. Then I hit up unemployment. Now I have no debts, and can afford to skydive for a living. Sometimes you can escape from your cubicle. Now the rest of you get back to work.
  19. It's Stefan Burstrom from the Scandinavian sector in World Team 2006.
  20. First of all, this is an old problem that's been corrected for some years now, and it wasn't confined to the Wings alone, as others have noted. All of the hardware used in construction of all harnesses is sourced from outside manufacturers, and as such, all manufacturers are dependent on those source producers for quality assurance of materials. There's no real way to test the tensile strength of most of these parts without destroying them. What's nice to see is that the rings will deform under unusual loads, whilst the webbing itself is undamaged. At Wings though, any reported deformation of hardware will result in a complete rebuild and retrofit of the harness.
  21. Is there someone you have in mind? At Byron ? Just throw a rock and you'll hit about three or four of them. For women, it's like fishing in a stocked pond. Or just go to the bathroom and pull a coach rating off the roll.
  22. This is true. Do whatever feels right. If you really think that you are going to lie on your death bed wishing you had spent more time at the office, then this is worth stressing about. I've dropped in and out of education all my life when shiny new thing came along. Motorcycles, the music business, skydiving etc. People always assured me that I was nuts and should look at the big picture. Well, here it is 20 years later, I own my house outright, have all the boys toys I could want, and have been fortunate enough to not have to buy a set of gear or have a jump bill in 15 odd years. Not a damn day of it was planned. The lesson, if there is one ? Follow your heart, and whilst your life may not be as secure as someone who trades excitement for security, you'll have better stories to tell at the end. Plan B - You're a sexy girl. Find a rich dork in the South Bay, marry him, and send him out to work for you while you play with us.
  23. This will always happen if you make a post that implies that you're smarter than a moderator. Surprised anything makes it to the board really.
