Once again, I will try to relay my point. A fatality, I don't care who it is, is a bad thing for the sport. "Calculated risk"??? I am assuming you are saying that these individuals "calculated" the financial impact this "stunt" would have on the DZ if it went bad, and that they had set aside that amount of money for the DZO and his staff to survive off of until business picked back up... Dave, the bottom line here is, this "stunt" was a very bad choice. Nothing happened this time, but look above your post, some ~30 jump wonder is going yeah I was there and it was cool and the tent swooping was cool... We are setting our selves and our sport up for disaster, if you support this type of "demonstration", then don't complain when the FAA tells the USPA, "OK we gave you a chance and you didn't do it, Now WE are going to REGULATE this sport. You think that things will be better then, cheaper then, safer then? Do you really think that any part of the actions of those people have done anything to "advance" the reputation of the sport of skydiving. I think not.

We can debate all day as to whether or not "There is no such thing as bad advertisement", but I can tell you from experience, there are "bad" phone calls to make. I couldn't imagine calling someone's parents/spouse/children as a DZO and/or S&TA (or the USPA) and saying, yeah, I knew he was going to do this "stunt". No, no way, and if the S&TA and/or DZO KNEW he was doing this and didn't stop it, then shame on him/her. If they didn't ground the people involved after this incident, shame on them again. Dave, I have read probably most of your posts, and believe you are a intelligent person, but without question, the people that did this were showing off. They were showing off there "gear" and how well it works, AND they were showing off themselves as being the most "extreme" jumper there. They were drawing attention to themselves as much as anything, and anyway you look at it, that is showing off.

As a former DZO, could I ask that you maybe consider the "impact" (chosen on purpose) that these type incidents ("demonstrations") have on business when they go bad... It was not a smart thing to do, I don't care what kind of rig. When things go bad, and they often do, it is a reflection on the sport. There may have been low time jumpers watching who thought, "that was pretty flippin' cool, I'm gonna give that a try next jump." It's not like those things don't happen either. Hey great pic, great rig, glad it is nothing more than a discussion as to whether it is in violation of a BSR, but it was not cool in my eyes, in anyway, shape or form.

Tomorrow, July 1st, will be my 2 year anniversary, and yeah, I added almost exactly the same amount in inches and weight. It will also be the 2 year mark for my wife, as we quit on the same day!!!

And I've seen AFFI's that would have NEVER passed the old course *** Some of them are just plain unacceptable and that is one of my big issues. Historically speaking (please add your thoughts Hooknswoop) The USPA was largely run by "Failed DZO's and/or retired military jumpers, looking for some place to "finish their careers". Not sure why we picked these people to run our organization. There were many times when these "leaders" failed our organization horribly. We also had some wonderful people in the USPA who tried diligently to make progress...and in some cases, came so close until it almost revived my faith in our sport and it's "elected" officials, but these people were endlessly out numbered by the "good old boys" and the changes I believe we needed never came to pass. In so many ways, I saw the "problems" as being simple; We have learned to trust the equipment, not the training. We have decided that "Self-Regulation" means "Participate if you like". We have made "Supply and Demand" the director of our training programs, rather than "Experience and Ability". We were voted down by "looking out for number 1" and "conflict of interest" Hooknswoop, I respect your position on not being a ND because the sport is not your passion as it once was. Hopefully, those in the position of "leadership" in the future might decide to take care of the sport and not their DZ, and they might turn to the "Industry" for the guidance to make the right things happen.

Finally I have a chance to get you back...oh yeah, I will start campaigning for you right now brother!!! I wouldn't wish that on anyone, man I don't even know if I could vote for you...I actually like you too much!
