  1. From the KLIA Airport, take the ERL express train to the city. That should cost you RM$35 one way and get you in town within 28 minutes. Then you can take a taxi from there. Or you could ask what is the direct bus from KLIA to Genting. From the airport to Genting will take about 2.5 hours. You can just walk in an fly. They open from 10am until 9pm. RM$50 gets you 2 minutes. You have to buy in 2 minute blocks. Hope that helps.
  2. Can you post a picture of the helmet? www.motavi.com
  3. While awaiting the arrival of a new BlackJack 280, I've been reading a lot about setting the DBS. Since most of my jumps will be slider off with delays of 1 to 2 secs, this is obviously very important. I wanted to ask, if you have black lines, how do you mark the area to insert a new loop? www.motavi.com
  4. Thanks, I try that out and see how it works!
  5. I'm using Pinnacle version 8. I've used Adobe Premier as well with the same unsatisfactory results. Where can I get Tmpeg? Not sure how to check what bitrate I am using for the encoding....how do I check that? www.motavi.com
  6. I was just wondering how people usually capture DV footage from their DV camera. What I normally do is to just plug in the firewire cable into the camera and run that straight into the hardisk that goes into my laptop. The problem is that the quality is sometimes good and sometimes bad when I render and output to VCD or SVCD. What I mean by that is that the picture is a little blurry and distorted. I paid a visit to a computer shop and the salesperson sold me the Pinnacle Studio DV Mobile package which comes with the software and a PCMCIA card where you plug in the firewire cable which runs from the camera. Apparently, this way, I am able to capture hardware codec and get excellent picture quality. The old way meant that I was just capturing software codec and that's why the quality suffered. Now I haven't yet tried this new piece of hardware but would like to know what everyone else has been doing and if I have been duped in buying something that I really don't need. Thanks!!
  7. Just wondering who's coming down for the boogie next week? www.motavi.com

  12. Maybe I had a bad batch of Sony tapes but I just found with the cheaper quality Sony tapes it seems to be more blurry than others.... www.motavi.com

    Cruiselite

I've got a whole bunch of skydives on a Cruiselite 220 and I can never land the damn thing properly. I always end up on my butt!
  14. Yeah, I have had terrible pictures as well with the cheaper Sony tapes. I use JVC or Panasonic tapes now and they are fantastic! www.motavi.com
  15. Finally! Thanks for that Johnny!
  16. I think that reaction times are very important here and of course, using BASE specific equipment. Although I don't have 'tons' of skydives, I do think that a few skydives to get altitude awareness is important as well as getting used to flying a canopy, learning landing patterns and learning how to sink a canopy and flare. I've never swooped a canopy, neither have I had an interest to downsize or did downsize. I would say that a bunch of skydives on a 7 cell fury did help me a lot in terms of understanding, getting a feel for and getting some flight experience on what a 7 cell is like. Jumping a BASE canopy out of a plane I feel is a good idea as one can get a feel for when it stalls, check out where the deep brakes are, how far a canopy drops when you rear riser stall it and of course how it flares when you come in for landing. This is what I would think would be a good BASE specific course (just a thought that I wanted to share, that's all!): 50 Skydives using either a 7 cell or a BASE specific canopy practicing flying (while doing this, practicing all the drills from say, the Vertigo course which is rear riser stalls, flying with one toggle, landing with rear risers, immediate riser turn upon opening, and so on) Static line Jumps on a BASE specific canopy 10 jumps from 2000 feet, hop and pops, or a few seconds of freefall then deploy. Jumps from a bridge over water or soft sand. Tracking jumps from a plane (for big walls/buildings) Windtunnel time for body flying practice (I know a lot of people are going to argue here, but I feel this helps a lot, even in a zero speed environment). Platform diving practice: head up, body flat exit It is interesting to note that even someone with 3000 skydives could go in on their first jump. I do understand that the jump numbers are there for the average Joe's safety but I would say that some people are more capable than others. Finally, I think one has to accept the fact that anything can happen on a BASE jump (no matter how prepared you are) and if one is not prepared to accept that, well then, they better not jump and stick to skydiving (or not jump at all!!!!). Just my thoughts, this is in no way a recommendation or anything like that. What do I know anyway? Matthew www.motavi.com
  17. So what's happening to all those yellow AeroSmith canopies? www.motavi.com
  18. I wanted to ask a few questions as there are so many choices available with regards to vented canopies: 1) Which vented canopy has the shallowest angle of attack (this is for tight landing areas with no real need for forward speed.) 2)Which vented canopy has the least amount of forward speed (I understand for instance that if one chooses a bigger canopy, say a 280 over a 265, then there will be less forward speed, but I would also like to know which vented canopy naturally has the least amount of forward speed) 3)Which vented canopy has the best flare for landing as I understand that vented canopies lose their flare as compared to a non vented canopy (but with valves/covers that makes the flare all the better??) Thanks for your opinions/observations in advance! Matthew
  19. How long can you keep a Mini DV tape until it gets mouldy? I have started to use my tapes only once (to ensure good quality and reduce dropped frames, overlap etc). But when I burn onto CD's it loses the quailty. Time to get a DVD burner!! www.motavi.com
