    Body Armour

Posible use of bikers air-bag system in base. http://www.hit-air.com/english/lineup/index.html Might use it in water landing, or when you know you are going in. However, you will have to pull the 'reserve handle'. Nice styles around. Cons: Will limit your head movement when inflated, hence, only use 'reserve' when you go in. Will have to lessen your chest strap. Just something we saw on TV. Enjoy!

    SL question

Yes, it was very low, but as I have stated above, lets say I opted for the 20-30lbs standard, their is still a lot to play with. (For interesting sake, I think I need to do that pin test again, which, off-course would not affect my argument above, unless it is above 30lbs. I bloody don't hope is more that that. Also, being into areals, I don't plan in doing a tuck on my SL jumps ) Was also thinking last night, that the way people make their knots with break cord that is actually a flat webbing, as you would have got in climbing, is that thye don't feed the webbing 'flat' around a knot, as we did in climbing (Yes, No?) will result in loading the break cord on the one side more arount this corner, and hence, weakening it dramatically. I pay a lot attention in doing the knot. Should actually to a few tests on badly woven knots as well. C

    SL question

Yo Dude, As we had this discussion before, I might just add my mix to the ramble. I use single static line setup ( as opposed to loop system) , doubled with the same setup, about 10 - 15 cm further up the bridle, to provide a backup, with a 46 or 48" PC. Now, 40% loss in strength? What knots are you using? As I have done my test previously, and just done them again, twice, I found that with the knot I use, the break cord always (always: relative, isn't it?) breaks above 34kgs ( or 74.957 lb's). Test 1. Lifted 34kgs. then with same break cord, lifted 35kgs or 77.162 lbs, and broke. Test 2. Lifted 35 with fresh break cord for a while, put it down, then lift it again, not broken. Now, 74.9 and 77.1 does not give me a loss of 40%. To me, this resulted in a 93-96% strength. Also, one of the first things I did when I bought my rig, was to test the pin tention. Yes I like mine 'soft', and it not even close to 8lbs'. Lets say I go with the about 20-30 lbs of force, it leaves me with 45lbs plus, plus the second system of another +73lbs, plus the 46" - 48" pc. If something goes wrong here, I think it my time then. Knots used on both ends, is like a figure of 8, with an additional full loop, before completing the knot. Previous results, was with standard figure of 8 knot. If you think/know/tested/don't know your setup, and think/know/don't know that it will break @ 40%, then I would propably do the same. Other random thoughts: We are happy with a human PCA, but how reliable will 'this setup' be in terms of strength. I don't think any of my PCA buddies will be able to hold a 34kg snatch force with one bicep, one hand, and a bridle routed in-out @ the same end of the hand, and at the same time, provide me with a full duplicate system. Yet, we are happy with so much more force (subject to set-up) Don't we also continually do these PCA's from the same objects /heigts as this over-kill SL? A thought I had, was to set-up a single SL system on a PCA, and see if the break cord will break, before you PCA buddy let go. What will this test? Maybe not much, but the so called 'Other forces' might be identified, or their ghosts might get kicked. As W has mentioned, what is the long term stress you put with an overloaded system on your bridle, attachment points, etc. Over engineering the SL system is not the solution for doing it wrong in the first place (thinkig of SL failures of the past, that makes people so paranoid.) , for now we introduce new stresses. I am convinced that all the SL setups that failed, weren't done 'right', for even now, we can't seem to agree on what is right. Also, why do we go to such great lengths in getting the PC size for a FF right, when we are happy with such great forces in a SL? Happy jumps in this weather Dude, and C-yah in France! Maybe we can give the Ski thing a go as well.
  5. I did not tried the BJ with small mesh, and yes, you are right, one could then not compare, some of it. This is only to offer some information on experience with configs. Keep in mind, with this small mesh, I happily do 500 ft SU where I do with my BJ SD, due to had openings on my Flick. Not very comparable stats, I know, but interesting though. I would think so, but maybe there is a lot more into the aero dynamic design of canopies, that could make them behave slightly differently. I don't know. I also explicitly asked for small mesh with my Flick. Thinks standard is large hole, not sure. It is 260 or 266, whatever size. I don't know. First I thought I had my bungy on the wrong attachment point, especially after I installed it in my Flick. But I am sure it is on the C center. I get, with a strech, about 1-2inches on my BJ, and on the Flick, a fair bit more. It feels as if the direct control on the BJ could easily slip out, especially if you do one wrap like I do. I also like to use direct control on jumps of more than about 6secs. Hence, NOT from 500ft jumps.
  6. I don't have a lot of Terminal experience, appart from 9-11 sec range in the valey. My experience is the following: BJ: 1. Very hard openings with SU and long delays. (6-11 secs) 2. 2 wraps on indirect control 3. Single wrap on direct slider control. (Stugle to get a proper bite.) 4. Large mesh. 5. Rolling the outer 3 nose cells tight to center with center nose cell over the pack job. Flick: 1. Softer openings on longer delays. ( 6-11, One up to 21 secs) 2. 1 wrap on indirect control 3. Single wrap on direct slider control. (The bite on the slider is very good and proper, unlike the BJ.) 4. Small mesh. 5. Rolling the outer 3 nose cells tight to center with center nose cell over the pack job. I also found that the Flick eats bungies when you do a 2 wrap on indirect control, where use 2 wraps constantly on my BJ. What is strange, is that BJ is less hard on SD, but a lot harder on SU, and the Flick is hard on SD and softer on SU. This might have to do with the mesh sizes, and direct/indirect control as explained in my setup, however, I am not sure this is the full story. I personally lack knowledge to explain my findings. Hope this helps.
  7. My experience on BJ and Flick: (Both 266 range) BJ (zp composite) +- 160-180 jumps 1. I regularly take it 4sec SD, no probs. 2. Faster flying, and bigger controll range. If I jump very technical/compact landing, I keep my brakes stowed, and hance have a very slow and controlable canopy. 3. SU heading issue. Read Adam's post on the controll line changes they made. 4. No multi. 5. Few back surges on opening, which caught me on static lines, when I had to do a quick turn while you are in a semi back surge / stall. (Also addressed as per point 3) 6. ZP composite requires 'little' more concentration on packing. Flick (VTECK, Multi) +- 60-70 jumps 1. I am scared to take it to 3secs SD, for it punishes me. Hence 2secs is my cutoff on Flick. Wheter this relates to higher opening, I don't know. Have no video, but surely feels like it. Loads of 500ft SU with small mesh, when I do the same with BJ SD. 2. Slower, less controll range than BJ, and being used to BJ, this has bite me once/twice, reaching the stall point quicker. However, just as BJ has made line changes, the Flick is now standard with 4 lines. (Don't quote me.) 3. Very good heading SU. 4. Multi. See all previous posts on multi. It makes sense to me, and which my BJ had one. 5. Done no SL jumps. 6. Easy packing. Packecd and jumped both, my heading performance has been very much the same on both. Note: 20 jumps in Valey with 4 180's on BJ, before I had my flick. Loads off room for discussion/flaming. My choice? If most/all of my jumps is not so tight, I will buy a BJ again. (Might be sentimental....) No info on loading VS mojo.

  9. What does set me apart in BASE? No co-incidence that I thought about it over the weekend, being in the UK, and arriving in CH when Dwain had the accident. I was and probably still am, very judgemental towards other jumpers. For one, trying to be more conservative, and preaching to leave some space for correction, I found myself hung up in the trees in CH, happy that my canopy opened in time after getting fixated. This is a time when I feel the Lord has confronted me about judging others, and then make the same mistakes. Saturday night we watched Extreme base, or something. Nick, Dwain W, and Slim, people I have never met, are all gone. I keep on asking myself, what sets me apart in BASE. I can today say, with honesty, that it is not my abilities, nor my ability to make the right decision on every jump or accent. Thus is where I find myself faced with the reality of BASE. In my limited ability, I will not be able to make the right choice every time. When I go out to BASE, only do I know that by grace will I return. Grace has corrected a lot of mistakes I made in the past, BASE or no BASE, and only by this Grace, will I live past BASE, past falling asleep on the motor way, getting out of bed tomorrow morning, to greet the world. And I also know, that one day, I will go home.
  10. Yes. This would make some good Dumb & Dumber footage. Somebody trying to break the world record for lowest BASE. Jumper and D-Bag holder trying to get into sync on trampoline, in order to gain 'unfair' altitude. Jumper and D-Bag holder goes out of sync during stunt. Lines get's extracted from D-Bag. Jumper reaches higher altitude on trampoline, and ignore vital signs. Both goes more out of sync even more. Material starts to extract from D-Bag, but jumper thinks 'This is my chance......'
  11. Dude, My WLO toggles/risers from Vertigo made me very use to hang-ups. Get a pair, and in a month or two, you'll handle it very 'naturally'. Mostly/only with S/down, (which is not recommended with WLO, I know.) Hence, if I jump a lot of SD only, I use my standard risers. It might be a bad thing, like 180's, but getting them and learn to deal with it, makes me feel better next time they are around. I'ts like driving an old car you have to double-cluth to get it into gear. Also, I learned to make sure I pull hard down, and not just to release the toggles, but to pull all the break line out of all the 'tangles'. Standard procedure now on WLO. P.S. They never let you know when they will visit.
  12. Dude, Received my Vertex2 this week. First impresions ain't cool. Might be just me, but I can tell you with 100% certainty, if I saw it before hand and felt it on my back, I will never buy it again. Unlike my Perigee Pro. I will buy it again ( and maybe should have...) At this stage of the race, I expected more from 'new' generation rigs. What do I like (Rig only, short of bridle): 1. Open corners. I don't wingsuit yet, but it is a nice to have. 2. It is longer, hence a 'flatter pack job'. This was my primary reason to get it instead of the Gargoyle. 3. I'ts black. What don't I like: 1. Main concern is the PC location. When I reach for it, I first feel the corner of the rig. "So Dude, where is your PC? .... Just around the corner Mate." I might just get use to it, but for now, I am NOT use to it. 2. It fits and sits horrible. Realy crap compared to PP. Because it is a flatter pack job, I expected to be flatter on my back, by no such luck. It's kinda pointy just behind my shoulders. 3. When the rig is closed, it has all this wrinkles on it. I would really have thought it to be standard to have a smooth rig by now, esp generation '2'. You cant compare this with BombProof Dude. It is just 100% smooth. I might change my opinion in a while, but till then, you know where to find the PC...... just around the corner.

Seen this under 'Classifieds' Has anybody got an idea what the reserve line-colours are?

    Line Mod

I think also, some of those who might not use it, might use WLO toggles, with one setup for all jumps. Having never had a line over, but jumped the WLO, I think the normal toggles is better and faster, in case you would get a line over. Also, as you have mentioned, the simpler in base, the better. It took me a while to make full use of the concept.
  15. Did my local A with an offheading. On landing, saw all this shi£ on my lines, and thought "great, landed my canopy in cow shi£", only to later learn it is grease from the wires. I struggled a while to get the grease off, and still left with stains on my lines.
