  1. I recently wrote an article on the subject due to many recent questions at the loft on the differences. It's on the most recent Rigger Rant & Rave. It's a mix of fact/opinion...for whatever it's worth, this is the link: http://www.chutingstar.com/rantandrave.html. Mike ChutingStar.com

  3. See the PD document at this link: http://performancedesigns.com/docs/ControlSysMalf.PDF PD provides instructions for tacking down their main Slinks when not using the Slink covers. Mike ChutingStar.com
  4. I've ordered mine from MSC Industrial Supply...small quantities as needed...sold by the foot. Web site is http://www1.mscdirect.com/cgi/nnsrhm. Tons of different size tubing...I don't have the two sizes I use with me right now, but you can use Dave's measurements from above...and price compare with the company he uses. Mike ChutingStar.com
  5. FWIW, actually it was a rigger in Georgia, Perry Thibedeau. The sides of the heavy-duty freebag were exposed with the "closed" reserve container. Mike ChutingStar.com
  6. Karel was in Florida last week and I received an e-mail from William yesterday. I do know they are awaiting a cutter shipment for units to go out the door. The cutters will be in later this week. Hope that helps, Mike ChutingStar.com
  7. Last week I was told they were still hoping/planning for an early April release. As of right now, the Vigil 2 isn't available from Vigil USA. Mike ChutingStar.com
  8. I'm sure you have, but just in case... Make sure you check the guide ring, webbing, toggle, etc. for any sharp edges that may have caused this damage where it is stowed. And make sure the line isn't getting caught in the velcro. Mike ChutingStar.com
  9. Here's one more from Danny for Christmas 2005...always the comedian. Mike ChutingStar.com
  10. Just another quick note/observation on the PD Optimum reserve since I'm assembling one right now to a rig...the lower control lines are already sewn. Yay! So nice for riggers...thank you PD for listening to us. Mike ChutingStar.com

  12. Are you sure? From Vigil comparison: - Expected lifetime: min 1.000 jumps or 4 years Pete Yes, that was what they were advertising at the PIA symposium for the Vigil II. Also the replacement battery is going to be cheaper. I think right now the original Vigil battery is $145 and I think the proposed price of the Vigil II battery is $45. Mike ChutingStar.com
  13. Candace of Vigil USA told me last week that the Vigil II should be available by late March or early April. But no guarantees, and no orders can be placed with Vigil USA for the Vigil II at this time. Dealers will be notified a day or two before the release...and I currently have 6 orders waiting to be placed for Vigil IIs. At the PIA, Vigil reps said it will be sold as the Vigil II. With the new features including the unit being waterproof, a flatter profile and a longer lasting battery (10 years or 2500 jumps). The price should remain the same at $1199. Anyway, all of my customers who prefer the Vigil over the other AADs seem to be content to wait it out for the Vigil II instead of taking the original Vigil. With all things being the same (as for price and/or service), support your local drop zone, dealer or gear shop and buy locally. Mike ChutingStar.com
  14. FWIW, I'm running with this info for my customers. I'll attach this info to the RSL info letter from Sun Path and go about business as such. Thanks for the more detailed explanation/info. Mike ChutingStar.com

  18. what the heck. I thought dublin WAS at the Farm this year. I'm so confused. What is this rigging you speak of? excuses excuses. That's right Dublin has been foreclosed...Skydive The Farm is the new roamingdz.com boogie...all GSL competitors are paid to compete. What a year...who needs rigging? Mike ChutingStar.com

  21. Camera is provided you pay for it. Cost is your lift ticket and 1/4th of the camera slot. You are getting coaching and the competition jump...as well as judging of the jumps. Should be a blast, although it looks like I'm missing Dublin this year to get caught up on rigging work and such while the Farm is closed for the weekend. Mike ChutingStar.com
  22. It says at UPT's link below it is 500 pounds max weight for the PD-360 Reserve Canopy. http://www.unitedparachutetechnologies.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=51 Mike ChutingStar.com
  23. I've been buying mine from Mike Furry at Altico for the past several years. They are made out of the heavy duty spandex. Same material Sun Path uses. He carries just black, but I think I pay $12 per pouch...maybe its $15. It's been a few months since I've ordered them. I get about 10 of two sizes with each order. 4 x 7.5" and 4 x 9.5". If I need other colors, I usually order from Sun Path...a bit more expensive...can't recall the price. I did buy several yards of the heavy duty black spandex from Sun Path a couple of years ago...and do have a double-needle machine setup to bind...but haven't taken the time to start making them myself yet. Will probably do that eventually... Mike ChutingStar.com
