  1. Not sure why the question after policy analysis. It's completely ethical, I work primarily as a project manager on federal contracts. A lot money goes into just estimating and bidding a job. After that even more money goes into administrative tasks far before any ground braking takes place or even authorization to begin construction. Accepting things the way they are is only cynical if you are unhappy with them.
  2. Part time, 400 jumps a year, lol. I get what you are saying its just funny perspective.
  3. This right here. Most of us use flysights, don't turn it off for you canopy ride and compile a graph of canopy speed using excel, also after every jump check you AAD and get the speeds off of that. If you have a digital alti get the speeds from that, graph it, decide if you can safely use student mode. Personally I lowered the activation altitude of student mode and can use it because I fly a specter, so as long as I don't do any front riser spirals I dont get close to the activation speed.
  4. That's cause our posts keep getting "modified." You really wanta know why this kid died? It's because no one gives a shite about the last solo / newbie on a load. Everyone else was just too fuckin busy to notice, same as at every DZ full of skygods out there. Simple. Well, YOUR posts get deleted because they are inappropriate. Or just wrong. This jumper was dead on impact. The exact reason isn't clear yet (or hasn't been made public). The only thing a check in procedure would have changed is when the body was recovered. CHECKING IN OVER THE YEARS HAS SAVED LIVES. THIS ISN'T A DEBATABLE POINT. Prove it.
  5. Not sure what exactly you are replying too. But if it was my comment that most skydiver do not care or even know, I stick by that comment. Personally I pay attention but I also do policy analysis so it’s kinda my thing. Do I care that a few of my dollars are going towards an attempt at a museum? No. I don’t.
  6. Like myself and others have said, most skydivers don't care.
  7. Just a some info for you. You do not have to use the audible portion of it. It’s advised but if you trust it to save you you should trust it to switch modes. It works for non wingsuit jumps as well. The programming can tell the difference.
  8. In your case a WS Cypress makes sense. I fly a Specter 150 loaded at 1.5 so I don't ever go over the activation speed of my vigil in student mode. Lower the activation altitude to 1100ft and called it good. You likely go over the activation speed to it would make sense for you.
  9. It really depends on what main you use for wing suiting if its worth it or not.
  10. Looks to me like a REALLY bad idea. IMO that is a recipe for out of sequence deployment, resulting in funky opening. I double stow ALL four grommet's(elastic's) with a bag just like that. I do have slightly less bulk with a 7 cell... Perhaps think about a semi-stowless? To answer the question, I replace one of the two main locking stows every 5 jumps on average. "The cost of doing business". Why would it lead to an out of sequence deployment? I have those bungees on my d-bag, granted I only use 2 of them but have never had any issues. Its a semi stowless bag, it would be insane to see one of those bungees come undone before the lines come out of the line pocket.
  11. In billvons defense, forms are generally not representative of the general populace. They generally end up with the loudest members. As for your huddle, and like you said, one DZ is not representative of the community. I have only been to 9 DZs thought the US on both coasts and I have never head anyone so much as talking about the USPA unless it involved licensing, SIM, or ratings. Sorry you have a less than responsive board member. Mine is a text away. I cant find active membership stats for this forum but I would guess the amount of active jumpers that come here is pretty small. Most people myself included this this forum is an insane disaster full of salty old jumpers. That being said its also entertaining and kills time.
  12. I have to disagree, I would bet money the majority of USPA members don't know or care what the board is up to unless in negative affects them.
  13. It has nothing to do with people being cynics. I also, am not a cynic. I work in politics, average voters are and will always be an issue.
  14. ***"Huge Problems, eh?" What problems are you referring to? Are you saying that members aren't qualified to make a decision on the dues they are required to pay to retain their membership? The only "Huge Problem" I see here are elected members making decisions on funds that are not theirs and funding a failed endeavor that was never suppose to be funded with members dues.[/quote Average voters, they are and always will be an issue.
  15. There are huge problems with letting everyone vote on something they know nothing about or do not know all the details of.
  16. I can tell you there are costs that ad up fast that go into figuring all of that out.
  17. So the USPA will have a total financial burden of just under 300k$. with over half being contributed over the next 6 years. At the end of 2017 there was about 39k USPA members. Soooo....yeah, I'm ok with the USPA taking ~1.25$ of my dues every year (total averaged 6y) to help promote skydiving over the long term. Really since 112,200$ has already been spent I am 100% OK with the USPA using ~ 0.75$ of my membership fee (66) each year for 6 more years to go towards the museum.

  19. Bill, I'm not so sure about this. How are we learning about the opinions of a "vocal minority"? If you are refering to those who post on dropzone.com, well, yes, they are vocal because they are comfortable using dropzone.com. But there may be many others that are against USPA donating to the museum, but are not comfortable talking about it in public. I would think that there is no way to really know. People don't always tell us what they are really thinking. I realize that I am saying that there is a problem, but that I am not providing a solution. I can't think of one short of holding a gun to everyone's head and forcing them to vote their opinion on it or something like that. . I would bet money that most USPA members don't know anything about it.
