  1. I think that's narrow sighted - if it can be proved they are also a danger with knives, power tools, lighters/matches, or even a credit card......why have an inconsistent standard? however, by establishing cars and guns have a similar standard in your mind - you have at least admitted that guns are property and not some mysterious tube of danger so there's hope you can close the rest of the logic eventually Me? If I had legal proof that an old codger has a vicious habit of taking his hammers and pounding on the paper boy - I'd think an appropriate initial response would be to take the hammer away and give it to the kids for safe keeping. But then, that's crazy - 'hammers' don't win votes or increase taxes I guess. ... 3. that depends on the government in question since the US government is founded on individualism and private property rights (including the ownership one's own labor) - then yes, that concept (of government default ownership) is wrong. If one keeps that forefront in any political discussion, then right vs wrong is usually VERY clear. other governments and their agreement with their citizens - well that mileage may vary. ... If you're suggesting that all gun owners should be required to maintain the same standards as police officers............ 5. I agree. However, sex and racial discussions should not be part of pleasantries. It is just too easy to offend or have a misunderstanding. In a fortune 500 company or small business, sure If I run a tandem and AFF DZ, sure If I own and operate a biker bar - maybe not so clear cut If I'm an undercover cop in a tough part of town - maybe not so clear cut If I'm a gangster - maybe not so clear cut Vice President of the USA - maybe not so clear cut ... 6. well, most cops have to maintain some level of fitness and training - so likely any cop prior to retirement age is fine with me......as long as they get to taze someone, I'm good whooops, my bad, I read that wrong. pretty much any newer gun. The older ones are collectibles and might be in ownership for sentimental reasons rather than for shaky handed shooting. whoops again the old guy has rights to own property, unless he's demonstrated, through HIS OWN actions, that ownership of the property is a DIRECT THREAT to others, the government should keep their filthy hands off of any of his property - regardless of age, physical health, or type of property. If his judgment is impaired, and a car or gun or hammer or WHATEVER inanimate piece of property, is a threat to public safety, then that fact needs to be PROVED, and the property should stay with his FAMILY, not be defaulted to the public bins. If he doesn't have family or a guardian, the gov't would have the responsibility to dispose of the property in HIS BEST INTERESTS. That means arrange for sale or gifting per the owner's wishes if possible and the proceeds to go to the owner. The property should NOT transfer to the gov't in any case. ... 9. Is that "ever even" or "every evening"? Jus' askin'. ok - let's parse it out for the simple minded in the crowd - you know who you are (or maybe you don't).,,,, Every Even Open Open Every = "ever" but not really = hardly ever Even = smooth and level = Even Open Open = multiple open = opens thusly "hardly ever even opens" up links.......yada yada sigh - it's not really my fault you don't do the thinking up front ... 11. I'm in agreement - professional is meeting the contract. But I do think pleasantries are necessary to establish functional working relationships and respect. This makes the goal of getting the job done more effective. I agree with the gamesmanship comment. Unfortunately, if you ask most people about what defines professionalism, you'll get dress code about as much as any other item. You ask a technical person, and you'll get the cert doc comment. The rest is all Miss Manners stuff.... ... Driving is a one dimensional activity - a monkey can do it - being proud of your driving abilities is like being proud of being able to put on pants
  12. Some define 'professionalism' as: -getting that certification document -dressing in similar suits -talking to each other in prim old fashioned manners -playing the politics -telling people what they want to hear, rather than the truth -following the rules, even bad ones -putting in 12 hour days even if you only have 9 hours of work that day what if you define 'professionalism' as -does what it takes to get the job done -no games -direct and honest and open communication I personally don't appreciate vulgar discussions at my engineering company. I will temper or elevate my language to match the comfort zone of those around me. But I'm not sure if it's more or less professional to force others to do the same. I don't much care, but I do care about results. So if someone is 'over the top' or 'out of line' that it affects the overall productivity of the work? Then that's a good place to draw the line. That includes bad behavior, but it also include hypersensitivity, includes playing games too much also. Edit: clarification - note was "no reason for it nor is it constructive in any way" I'd say that is more dependent on the crowd you are in with rather than a blanket statement. Despite that I'd wish it would be an absolute. ... Driving is a one dimensional activity - a monkey can do it - being proud of your driving abilities is like being proud of being able to put on pants

  16. Maybe you should ask Amy what she means. I don't know her or the DZ.... I read it as possibly - She wasn't available to work one day with the coaches because she had to teach the FJC. Later, she finds out the FJC is canceled and therefore she now has time for the Coach wannabees to work with them on their rating. So there's a version that has a positive spin to it. careful you don't inadvertantly slander someone you might meet someday as for candidates "missing" the FJC during the course - frankly, if a candidate doesn't ALREADY have that requirement done BEFORE any rating course, then they need to decide if they are really that serious about their intent. ... I wonder how one would define the difference between a "right wing racist" and a "left wing racist" If you still can't tell right from left I suggest you get someone to mark your hands "R" and "L".
