  1. If people are allowed to choose nicknames for themselves, which I doubt, then I think I've got a reasonable one for myself. Linetwist. 'cos I get them on exactly 50% of my jumps (a weeeak attempt to hijack mark's thread )
  2. So true... Come on, you americans are not offended by that statement, are you? Everybody knows it's true (mostly).
  3. After viewing his website, I can say that though his stunts (or "stunts"?) are cool, they're not as special and record-breaking as they are presented (apparently, by Red Bull). I'm bored... And if what you guys are saying about his BASE behavior is true, then it's downright shameful. And yes, sometimes you can judge people without meeting them.Though in this case I'm in no position to do so.
  4. Seven. What a shame. Ok I didn't know that India's capital is NEW Delhi and not just Delhi... something's wrong here About 4-5 years ago I knew the capitals of most of the world's countries, could find them, etc. Apparently, my memory sucks.
  5. BUY music?!!! We've got a gift from heavens called Kazaa (some of us also have another gift called high-speed connection ), what else would you ever need... OK probably not EVERYTHING you want can be found for free, but most of it
  6. vibes, a lot of'em :) and remember, I want some other stuff like a base rig as well
  7. AFF. Reason I didn't want a tandem, which obviously was cheaper, is that I never really doubted whether I want to skydive "for real" or not. Besides, with AFF you pretty much get the whole experience at once, unlike other programs.
  8. Hmm... I used to study programming, in fact I'd studied it for 2 years, until recently I lost interest in it for some reason, and decided that I wanna be a professional astronomer Anyway, I just saw the word "programmers" and thought I have to leave my mark here
  9. Yeah, 250 miles, right... Didn't he also say they jump from the moon?
  10. So how much do they pay for a stadium demo jump? And what does "keeping the rating" mean? Don't you just get your PRO and that's it, as long as you're using the same canopy?
  11. This is just unbelievable, I'm fuckin' speechless. And this seems to be raising the question of landing a wingsuit again! I'm just wondering whether he had a plan, what to do in case he ran out of altitude... Anyway, that's one badass flyer!
  12. I eat it no matter what... an apple falling on the floor, or anything else for that matter - I don't care, I eat it. (Well, sometimes I clean it from the hair it catches from the carpet, but that's about it) And yes, I never wash apples, tomatoes etc. If you're thinking "pheww...." then you're probably too squeamish (word?). Don't be
  13. I got Rachel too... well, I'm happy with this choice, what can I say! Although I have no idea who she is. But really, I dream of dating Mischa Barton She's gorgeous
  14. My first jump (this January) was witnessed only by my dad, and he sure as hell wasn't happy about it. But others seem to understand. My mom keeps saying the same thing: that I shouldn't do it cos it's dangerous, but that she always had wanted to try it herself. Anyway I'm 18 now, so noone can tell me not to skydive. Good thing. My former classmates seem to be amazed by what I'm doing and even respect me more, and certainly girls have more interest in me now. Sort of a change of image, from that of a book-worm, which I'd been known for back in school... But girls never seem to be interested in me no matter what, and I have no freakin' idea what to do about it... Ah, whatever. Back to skydiving... I think the majority of my future friends will be skydivers, and my future girlfrield will also be one.
  15. Only 4 (reason: student jumps are not cheap), but looking forward to jumping a lot more frequently after AFF graduation.
  16. Gonna send this one to my cousin, she watches Italian soccer. Those were great Lou
  17. Damn this thread really grows fast! You know, at the place where I used to "live" (which was a forum about Hitman2), we had something called BANNING. It was quite simple - if someone starts posting useless threads, or insult people (especially moderators), the person got banned quite quickly. We used to have problems with spammers, especially when they used different screennames. Can you ban pepper based on IP or something?... On a separate note: it seems to me that LostOne is just another of the usernames of pepper's... or maybe not... just notice that her posts lack constructive thoughts as well as the fact that he first appeared here just yesterday, with her pic of sunshine between legs
  18. Depends on dz. At ASC you can jump at 16 if your parent agrees to sign a waiver too.
  19. I think I've got just what you need: why not read a book about special operation forces? My personal favorites are the Navy SEALs. I'm fascinated by unconventional warfare, by how much the spec-ops can accomplish, operating in small groups and being stealthy, etc. I'm currently reading "Seals in Action" by Kevin Dockery. You may want to check out other books by Dockery and Hans Halberstadt, they appear to be authorities in this question. Another title that comes to mind is "Never Fight Fair". And you probably want to check out the well-known book "Rogue Warrior" by the most celebrated SEAL of all times - Richard Marcinko. (the last two books I haven't read). Hope this helped.
  20. Yes it's the one you probably know about: Jonathan Livingston Seagull by Richard Bach. (been also mentioned in one of the quotes threads.) It's a very short text, not a book really... But if you haven't read it yet, please do, it will be time well spent, and will put you in a great state of mind. (I find myself using the word "inspiration" a lot lately, but that's what it is) You will feel, while reading it, that the story is almost about skydiving, especially Part 1. You will be reading about the bird, but imagining yourself in flight. I'm sure there are people out there who were moved by this book so much, that it made them begin skydiving or otherwise flying. Indeed it's the most poetic, fairy-tale way to start. "...Perfect speed, is being there."
  21. 1. How much $$$ per minute? 2. Any tunnels in Texas?
  22. A tandem? No way. This guy deserves being always held blind about the joy of skydiving. Even if he finds enough cajones in himself to do a tandem or whatever (which I doubt), what do you expect him to say? "Yes I talked crap about skydiving, but now I understand what it's all about and I apologize"? Come on... And remember that he can always take your words, from emails that you're sending, out of context, and make them sound whatever he pleases. So I wouldn't be so enthusiastic about those emails. So it's an all-or-nothing choice, of sorts: Either someone organizes a big show (on NPR, or CNN, or something on the same scale) where the truth is told (including that about Roger), skydiving is presented in a positive light which it deserves, and people like Rome are proved to be assholes; Or we just ignore incident(s) with/and whuffos like this, and continue enjoying the sport. (sorry about kinda clumsy wording, but you get the idea)
  23. Hmm... I don't really see the point of posting this. Tired of reading about people smashing into the ground on landings? Well, can you prevent it by posting this? Do you think those unlucky people are not educated about skydiving, not skillful enough? I think in most instances that ain't the case. + Would you achieve much by shouting "What the fuck are yall doing running red lights"? I don't think you would. after all the education, injections of common sense, horrible shows on realityTV, one factor is still left unchanged - the possibility of human error.
  24. // after reading the 50+ posts Ok Jen, you have the support, stories, etc.... are you ready to jump now?! My 0.02: go on a load just to watch others exit, to feel how easy it is, and then you'll be able to decide if you're gonna continue skydiving or not, plain and simple. An airplane ride can't hurt you, can it?
