  1. In picture #2 the black risers which are attached to the shoulders of the jumper are the reserve risers with the reserve bag above the jumper. The main (in red) risers and most of the main are out of the sketch above the jumper. The main pilot chute is stuck in the pouch. THANKS JOHN, ERR., I mean Mr. Sherman

It's not about experience, or who likes who, or whatever: It's about decorating yourselves like a christmas tree with fishhooks, you know, for that incident that can never happen to me? And for that argument regarding personal freedom and the "RIGHT," right, to do what you want . Every incident basically, the short version, makes it just that much harder to deal with the abutting neigbors, insurance rates, and the public in general.   4. What a great question!, You have the right to also ask this same question of the aircraft at your local DZO! Perhaps the next time your in a Cessna product and you see 5 other faces, the prudent thing would be to question this. C But what do I know, "I only have one tandem jump."
  5. What a switch, generally this subject is how to stuff a too large canopy in a too small container and still answer the question: Will it open? My 2 cents is to make sure that your able to adjust the main closing loop so that you have 8 or whatever lbs., opening force, that's USA pounds, I don't know what this is in KG, but I think you get the point! Find a rigger that can teach you this, so you can comfortably do this on your own. Good luck and have fun! C What do you mean by "older." But what do I know, "I only have one tandem jump."

  7. I just want to fully understand picture # 2? So your saying that the container opened, the canopy is in the bag, but the pc bridal is still in the boc pouch but the lines extended fully and then you cutaway? C But what do I know, "I only have one tandem jump."
  8. Yes I agree things have changed,... However there are multitudes of individuals here on this forum, a way too large majority with, err, let's say made up names, MANY of whom are students trying to learn or at least hash out things they little understand, or don't understand...I applaud their efforts, and you can either help them or not.
  9. I'm starting to receive PM (Private Messages) from some well meaning individuals from this post. I expected this... I do not respond to PM's. What you have to say to me privately can be said publicly. My point again is that loading an aircraft up to, near, and or over the published max is an unsafe practice, period. Many have pointed out that at or near the "envelope" is legal. What we are speaking about here is a mathematical line on a chart,...at a certain lbs you are ?Safe? and then add even 5 lbs to be on the other side of this calculated line and now we are not safe??? I am pointing out that the practice of operating at or near max is an unsafe practice that is financially driven. C This practice has become so prevelant in the skydiving community, that all too many accept this as normal, it is not normal nor is it safe. But what do I know, "I only have one tandem jump."

  11. Good point! My point is that, that nice Cessna that so many take for granted turns into a killing machine the closer you approach the edges of the envelope. AND that this is a largly ignored issue. C I may be wrong, but I thought intentional spins had to be done in "Utility Category" configuration. Which has a significantly reduced max weight. I'm not arguing with any of your points, just pointing out that spin training at or near max gross may not be practical. But what do I know, "I only have one tandem jump."
  12. The pilot chute is pointing downward because the "Skyhook" is "Hooked" to the reserve bridle at just above the halfway point. The loading from the horseshoed main canopy is to this point and is greater than the response of the reserve pilot chute. The reserve pilot chute has not had chance to orientate itself. However, it is still dragging but in the wrong way. There are numerous videos where this may be observed. If I remember correctly it is observable on the original promo video. But isn't the skyhook connected to the right main riser?? And in this picture the risers are still attached??? Let me get this straight, cause im having a brain fart here??? The risers have the power to "outrace" a pilot chute??? So what yoour saying is that the skyhook bridal under these conditions can actually wrap around the trapped main mess and hold down the PC?? As things that don't release correctly have been shown to do... C But what do I know, "I only have one tandem jump."
  13. The point that continues to amaaaze me is that the death caused by not pulling the reserve, after a sucsessfull cutaway release, is fact!!! How is this for a vision,...your running up to your comrade, who is in a pile on the ground, dead as a doornail,...the cutaway handle is no where to be found,... YOU GET THE PICTURE? This is the documented fact!!! But all of the (disconnect the) RSL discussions are hypothetical??? Somebody help me here, I JUST DON'T get it???? (O'h and pardon my spelling.)   14. Hi Van, I too wish all pilots were current w/ stall spin recovery. The question was "How many are current with Stall/ Spin at or even near Gross." It is a different aircraft under these conditions. And I know little or no one who has this practice under their belts. Unfortunatly it has become, almost a standard practice to hop into a grossly overloaded aircraft,...because the last load made it or it appears ok. The statistics don't support this insane behavior however... More careing individuals have been killed in these conditions, than equipment malfunctions, or low pulls. Now if someone wants to have a sensible debate about operating well under gross and then discuss the suitability of a more safer practice, but alas there are way too many of those out there that their sole motivation is maximising profit by stuffing that extra person in there... Please also don't attempt to displace my main point about the insanity of operations close to max gross by making this a skill of the pilot issue. Just because soo many operations "survive" dosen't make this practice safe. Again the evidence is more than sufficient too support the insanly high fatality rate of these aircraft under these conditions. And your dead wrong when you say the "wing behaves the same..." it dosen't. C All you have done by making that statment is confirm my point regarding the large number of pilots out there, many of them now dead who hold or held, this naive belief. About the only thing we agree upon is that the vast majority of Cessna and most all GA aircraft "Not approved for intentional spins." This however in no way absolves those involved for the consequencies of the multitudes who persist in operation near max. But what do I know, "I only have one tandem jump."

  16. The Air Forest One can do it all day long. The only restriction is the Class A airspace. RAISE YOUR HANDS IF YOU HAVE ACTUALLY PRACTICED STALLS AND SPINS IN A 182 AT 3000 LBS,... I REST MY CASE C untill then "because (ignorance) you have gotten away with it, dosen't mean it's right." Near the envelope,... out little tame Cessna products are death machines. The statistics prove this again and again!!!!! Notice I said near the envelope, not on the outside! You people have no idea how long or how many times I have had to explain to the surviving parents and relatives just what is: "Pilot Error." But what do I know, "I only have one tandem jump."
  17. In no way am I flaming you or anything even remotly close, I , in fact love reading, your advice... However, and quite often I will take the opportunity to provoke for discussion,... Whether it be by FTL or Radio, or Ground Signal, (ask the folks at DeLand about the big inflatabble arrow!! that the Belgium Army came with this past Nov/Dec.) The point is students, and perhaps many of us benifite greatly by instruction, at the time they need it most, I realize however that their are a few that would leave students to the wolves, and perhaps we should approach students with this attitude in some respects considering the incident/student/ crash rate, considering the fact that radios do fail, and FTL won't work if the student cant find someone to follow, or the big ass arrow deflates... Personally anyone is free to hang around first time jumpers, ask them if they thought the radio was a good idea? This illustrates what is called "feedback," and belive it or not this isn't always incorporated into FJC's, it should be because it's how the instructers learn. Rob Laidlaw has a nice view on just this subject,...his position is that "you had better take an interest in how (your) student performs,...because it's an indication of how well you have trained them..." Please beg my pardon if I have incorrectly quoted you Rob, and also my forgiveness to the many fine instructors out there who also share this view!!! I love you pops jumpers, everywhere!!   18. Dear BigMike, I have your safety formost in mind, with that said the question you have originally asked is quite disturbing to me! Not every DZ opeerates like the one you are currently at. If you have to ask this particular question via e-mail then perhaps, and this is a heart felt suggestion, you might be better served by jumping elsewhere! Because something is wrong somewhere! It may be an unitentional ommision, which in itself is a little scarey...but learning to jump from a book is not a good idea. Asking questions and developing a thick skin, for this you get a couple of points and I'm glad you took the time to ask! C But what do I know, "I only have one tandem jump."

Every now and then DZ owners/ operators run into someone with experience that they have earned at the cost of a few innocent lives...But It's been my experience that there are more than a few idiot pilots out there that will willingly look the other way to fly at or near the edge of the W/B envelope...and you fucking idiots have the audacity to call this safe??? If the general skydiving population knew the inherent danger in what you are proposing,...Well the bottom line is what is happening today V. the 80s' and 90s' The FAA dosen't just pull tickets any more,...the seek criminal complaints. And it is very unfourtunate that the vast majority of skydivers today place their trust in a fully loaded 182. It's like the comedian Ron White says: "You can't fix Stupid." AOPA advice, that most all DZO's ignore... "The Skylane is known for its large capacity and ability to carry heavy loads, but the 1956 through 1961 models only had maximum gross weights of 2,550 lb or 2,650 lb. That was increased to 2,950 lb beginning in 1970 and again to 3,100 lb in 1981. Don’t become overconfident with the newer, heavier models. If you carry passengers and baggage for a cross-country flight with full fuel tanks, you may be very near the airplane’s capacity limit. You may even need to limit the amount you carry." Untill you have been to more than a few 182 fatalities, you don't even have the right to open your mouth... And BTW,...your medical has expired,... But what do I know, "I only have one tandem jump."

  22. Radios with T10s? I gotta ask...WHY????? One reason: "Jumper 1, turn 180 so that you can see the tree you are about to hit." In 1973 PI had mandatory radios on all "first Jumpers." You might want to ask Jerry B. about this one as he predates me by a couple of years. Dan P., when he was working at Ted's place was at Orange and has first hand knowlege of one very sad story of a jumper who did in fact hit a tree, his last...if he had listened to his radio???? Perhaps that last was'nt quite fair, no one really knows if the radio failed or if it was the student, but regardless he was moving fast enough forward to do fatal damage. C FTL plus radio? Now that's a great idea,...knock it off you two... Can't we all get along??? But what do I know, "I only have one tandem jump."

I'm not disagreeing with you in any way...I fully intend to support my DZ in anyway that I can...whether that be from buying from the gear store, or something as simple as setting up beer for the jumpers coming in from the last load. I was just curious as to whats considered taboo in regards to gear buying. Same as your local Dive shope,... Dude. Can you walk into your local dive shop with your new Scuba pro XL9000, with a straight face, that you just purchased from a big box store? And say "Hey, mate,...look what I just saved 10 euros on!
