  1. Did I understand you correct? There are two fatalities in the year 2012 due to riser strikes? Do tell please ! If the camera is snagged on the riser and you cutaway it could easily kill you, the 3M tape as said above can hold 2000 lbs of force before breaking that means your neck will snap as you release your main. I don't think he meant a riser strike. And in a malfunction think how easy it would be for a riser to catch a go pro on the side? Especially the one like in the picture on the first page of this thread. Man I have to say that is damn foolish the way he has that camera.
  2. not saying this is a scam, but I would use caution. I tried to buy a computer monitor once and lost $400, it said it was "one of 10 computer monitors which were used in the production of a film" and they were selling them off because the shoot was over. I never got it it turned out to be a scam! $3000 is to cheap for a rig, especially for one that was used in a big hollywood movie. That should sell for 10K at least
  3. Will I make a 1.5 hour international layover in China with a carry on parachute? Would I have to go through security again? Given how much the Chinese love Jeb Corliss is it safe to assume their officials will be 'parachute friendly' and I will make it through quickly security without delay?
  4. I bought my own rig after my first couple of jumps. I now am done with my A license have 50 jumps and so far have not had any adverse effects of buying new other than it's a 'little' bulky. Having a rig ordered motivated me to keep at it since I had to get my A license to use my own gear. Having all new gear is AWESOME, especially a crisp canopy, I love seeing that fresh thing open it flies so smooth, the lines are so much thinner than on the student rigs, it packs easy despite having heard otherwise. I never paid for gear rental because I had my rig ready right off student status and the list goes on. If you got the cash go for it. EDIT: Just read your post more carefully. Definitely DO NOT buy your own student rig. Buying your first rig new has a lot of benefits as I mentioned above, but of course you can't buy your own gear to use during AFF nor would it make any sense to buy your own gear since it you still pay the same price for your student jumps using your gear or not. As a student you are going to downsize canopies literally in less than 10-15 jumps. When you're done with AFF you can settle into a size for a while.
  5. riding a motorcycle with a parachute on your back is the smartest thing I've ever heard, what could go wrong?
  6. I would buy a new rig right now. You want to have your own before you get off student status or else you'll be paying $25-$35 per jump for rig rental. I would recommend buying new vs. used, seeing that fresh crisp canopy open above you.. there's nothing like it. New canopies feel so smooth. I remember the first time my new canopy opened, so smooth and fresh it was awesome. It's still crisp but the first time was sweet.
  7. FAA doesn't require it, not sure why USPA requires 3rd class since it's a joke and nonessential
  8. did anyone ever answer your question? I'm trying to find some speakers for N3A for an open face
  9. do you have an open face or closed face helmet?
  10. anyone have any suggestions which motorcycle speakers to buy for an open face helmet such that you can hear the N3A in freefall?
  11. THIS. Inability to obtain a 3rd class does not mean a skydiver is unsafe. One must be physically and mentally very healthy to begin with to even become a skydiver, let alone get to the point of experience where a DZ gains confidence in said skydiver to potentially jump tandems. A 3rd class certificate is meaningless in aviation but especially so in skydiving. Well we'll just have to agree to disagree on this one. I believe if we're taking passengers and putting others at risk whether it's LSA, balloons, tandems, etc. we owe them at least an effort to see that we're in good health. The 3rd class may be a joke so we could require a standard physical checkup every other year. We could put that responsibility on the TI/pilot but I've known a few closet diabetics in my time that keep right on flying planes and taking passengers. At least they were in the closet until they had a problem. you are missing the point. We are living in a culture where we incorrectly believe we need government bureaucrats to protect us. It is a joke that a government official in washington DC who has zero knowledge about skydiving could protect us better than the DZO. I for one, trust my DZO, staff, pilots and jumpers to stay safe and keep me safe long before I would ever trust a federal bureaucrat.

  13. Trick question. Look at the lesbians on any porn site, 0% of the actresses are obese or even overweight for that matter! Can I have my $2.2 mil now??
  14. those ships are so big I doubt there is any sway when the sea is calm. Even if there is minor sway from the waves I bet it would be easy to make small corrections inside the tunnel to keep yourself stable. It's not like it's going to be violently rocking back and forth.
  15. wind tunnel cruise? anybody figure out the limits on the tunnel time?
  16. roflmao 'lazy bum' tell him if he wants a thrill he should get through AFF level 1-7 and then go on his first solo, now that there jump is a fucking thrill! Nothing quite like being all 'on your own' for the first time.
  17. I'm confused about two things. What is an accidental solo? Is that when you accidentally fall out of a plane without a parachute on? 2. Why in the world would someone do 19 tandems before starting AFF?!?!?
  18. why do you need an attoreny? Does the government hate skydivers and refuse to let them into their country or something?
  19. so are you saying the Kenosha is 'real' but skyride operated? I don't get how DZs can be associated with skyride if skyride is a scam. Are they advertising pics of 14K jumps out of nice Otters, but send their customers out for 10K jump out of a Cessna?
  20. his enemy is Al Qada, if we take him down another evil will take over power. It's a lose lose situation, you can't attack Asad without strengthening Al Qada
  21. I was not intending to insinuate that these were the same organization. I did not mean to imply it is the same organization either, which is why I put 'official in quotation marks.
  22. this is exactly what I was thinking, wouldn't you want FF out first so they don't catch up with the other jumpers and end up pulling at same altitude?
  23. ok so based on the facebook page and pictures on there it appears like it exists, it actually looks like kenosha in the facebook pictures. The address is at an airport and it looks like a real phone number. but the 'official' website looks sketchy for sure
  24. ha that would explain why they couldn't give me an address! I'm still new to the sport so I have not heard about the skyride scam, just looked it up in the search function.
