Upsizing Checklist

Recommended Posts

Thanks, I should have checked the Ghost and Stealth manuals because they did contain more information than the Phantom manual. :$

• Can you perform wingsuit exits, flight and deployment without any problems?
• Can you fly the suit near its maximum glide ratio, with corresponding delays?
• Can you perform basic aerobatics and back flying without problems?
• Are you able to flock in a controlled manner and take grips?

I still have a few questions ...

• How much do the larger wings compromise access to the BOC pilot chute?
• How do you access the BOC pilot chute with the larger wings?
• How much do the larger wings affect flat spins?
• How much do the larger wings affect fatigue?

I have only jump Phantom so far.

*BOC access. You have to get use to it.

*I think it could be some correlation between the leg wing width and flat spin. Notice that BM suits have norrower leg stand.

*I was told that e.g. Vampire can cause an fatigue if you want to fly maxed out.

With proper technique, almost no effect.
• How do you access the BOC pilot chute with the larger wings?
the same way I do with any wingsuit, back and down to my ass then up to the boc.
• How much do the larger wings affect flat spins? ignoring the fact that most of what people call 'flat spins' are more of a tumble than a flat spin,do you really need to ask this? you stick a larger surface out there it can spin faster
• How much do the larger wings affect fatigue?
depends on the suit, specifically the arm wing design, better pressurization seems to lessen the arm strength required, also the angle of the leading edge causes changes.

Thanks for the reply.

I'm going to have to start practicing that (I can currently just reach in to the BOC).

How about upsizing one size at a time?
I dont feel that going from my small Aerobat to a SM1 or Stealth would be wise. Maybe do like 50+ jumps with a medium suit like a Raptor or something. Opinions/experiences?

that is what I did. I was lucky enough to do it at a boogie where I went in with about 40 jumps on a phantom and put about 15 on a raptor and was rocking it then I tried a SM1 and then I bought a SM1 I feel the step by step progression and flying the suit in big flocks really helped me to progress in my flying, while minimizing the risk.

Additional check for your list:P

  • are you constantly going low/not keeping up, and thus, do you really a bigger wingsuit to compensate for a shortage in performance that cant be bridged by working on your skills (instead of buying a bigger suit)

  • Thought flocking was when everyone played nice and flew at a comfortable pace for the whole group. :P
