The smell of blood...

So...

Does anyone smell blood just after deployment on wingsuit dives?

I do. The 1st couple of times I suspected a nose bleed - but nothing.
This is not the smell of anything else. It's blood, and it only happens after deployment when I'm flying a wingsuit, and never after any other type of skydive.

Any ideas?

It's normal reaction when our spleen is "overloaded". It happens in stressful situation or when we're exhausted - when our heart beat ratio is above what we're used to! Some people smell blood and some taste it in the mouth. It's not a nice feeling, but goes away quickly.
With you probably right after your canopy opens !

Fantastic! I'm normal. It's only a second or two during late deployment and before I even start to free myself from my suit.

I don't have a good sense of smell, but near the end of a day of WS jumps, when the weather cools down a bit (not cold though, it's Florida summer!) my nose runs a bit and I get a weird stinging feeling in my nose and throat, sort of like in the winter.

Actually, I've gotten that a couple of times. Once on a FF dive that involved someone carving right into me (spooked me a lot), and on my first WS jump.

No actual blood either time, but I could definitely smell it and taste it a bit after opening.

I just wrote it off as weirdness. The human body is a weird thing at times.
