chinmao 0 #1 March 2, 2006 Can anyone tell me what date the Turbo let returns to Sibson, I'm sure its in March sometime. Thanks.
Newbie 0 #2 March 2, 2006 It's normally mid march but i haven't had anything official yet. I'm guessing they will probably group email everyone - i'll post up when i get that, if no one else has confirmed it before hand. chinmao 0 #3 March 3, 2006 To answer my own question, they are not having the turbo let this year. They are getting a G92 it arrives next weekend.
Newbie 0 #4 March 3, 2006 QuoteTo answer my own question, they are not having the turbo let this year. They are getting a G92 it arrives next weekend. Yeah i noticed they mentioned a G92 on the website. What's up with that? How comes no Let? What's a G92 like in comparison? TrickyDicky 0 #5 March 4, 2006 Faster (assuming its one of Steve swallows 3 G92), but fewer jumpers. Will take 15 jumpers to 15k in about 10 mins. Its got a smaller door, but a let has a stupidly big door. Door is about the size of an otter door, maybe a little taller UK Skydiver for all your UK skydiving needs. raw 0 #8 March 4, 2006 The Dornia G92 is a great skydiving plane but the let has something special about it. Maybe its the onboard toilets and proper aircraft door! Gotta love opening a real aircraft door at 13,000. Also the door is so big you could run from one end of the aircraft and launch yourself all in one motion. Newbie 0 #9 March 4, 2006 Does a G92 have seats or are you sat in between legs facing the tail? "Skydiving is a door" Happythoughts
Chards 0 #10 March 4, 2006 It's got two bench seats that you straddle. Ahh...I did my first freefalls from a G92...*nostalgia* They're awesome aircraft ********************************* "I have done that," says my memory. TrickyDicky 0 #11 March 4, 2006 Just hope you're not 5 on the bench, cos it climbs at about 45' (well feels like it) and you have 4 other people falling on you. UK Skydiver for all your UK skydiving needs.
Newbie 0 #12 March 8, 2006 Some info from Skydive Sibson received in an email yesterday....does anyone know what a SMG 92 is like? Is it like a Pilatus porter? Climb rate etc? QuoteHello fellow jumpers! We have some big news for you which is very exciting.......after 10 years of faithful service, we are not getting the Turbolet back this year. But no need to cry - instead our new jump ship is the fantastic Dornier G92. Yes it's not quite as roomy as the Let BUT the turnaround is quicker, so that means on a busy day we could do an extra 10 loads. The G92 holds 15 jumpers each load and even better - it's here this weekend, Saturday 11th March. If there's any teams out there, consider Sibson for your team training. You'll have the advantage of training in the same aircraft as at the Nationals and we also offer great team rates - please contact us if you're interested. More good news - we're saying goodbye to the Cessna and hello to a Turbo Finist(SMG 92) during the winter months. It's a 10 place turbine and we will be taking that to 13500 ft as well, so no more excuses about it being too cold!! Flytrix (Jude, Vicky and Sarah) will be load organising (sit, tubes, tag, track, hybrid, photography plus more...!)and offering FF1 coaching at Sibson this year. They'll be organising a few events as well - and it's not just for the girls!! Boys welcome too! For more information contact [email protected] Mark and his flock of BMIs will be wingsuit coaching this year. BMI courses, one-on-one coaching, load organising and first flight courses available on request. Work on the new bar and dayroom is in progress. The site has been cleared and we are hoping to have a temporary building on site soon, until new premises are built. As soon as the weather warms up a bit, we will erect the marquee. There's snacks available from the aero club (or the local shop) but we do have a microwave/kettle/toaster for your use if you want to bring your own! Bring your own alcohol for now as well but we can do beer/wine runs as necessary! We'd love to organise a Summer Ball at Sibson this year so if anyone is interested in that idea can you please let Sarah know. It would be good to get an approx. number so we can decide where to have it! Thanks. jakee 1,255 #13 March 8, 2006 Quotedoes anyone know what a SMG 92 is like? Is it like a Pilatus porter? Climb rate etc? Was jumping the Hib SMG92 last weekend, very quick to 15,000 with 4 people on board. Much like a porter from the outside but with left hand door (which is a bit small) and not that cramped with a full load. Sounds like you won't have to worry about that for quite a while though, enjoy the DornierEdit: Forgot to say, straddle bench on one side and floor seating by the door for the Finist. I'm going to try and get to Sibson for one of the wingsuit weekends this year as well, good to hear they'll have some quality aircraft on offerDo you want to have an ideagasm? Yeah, I'm gonna miss that Let, it was a comfy ride up too. The G92 is the plane to be jumping from if you plan on going to the Nationals this year. Hibs runs 3 G92s during the competition, so you need to practice jumping out of them. Outside of that, it is very quick to alt, but it is a git sitting in them. I've jumped them both at Hibs and Weston and you do spend most of the trip up struggling not to all fall into the back of the plane Gavin PS - Big hands to Sibson for turning things around after the fire. I was up there the weekend after and it looked bad. Will be up there again this saturday to see how things look and check out the dornier Gavin Ashes to ashes, dust to dust. If you don't take it out and use it, its going to rust.
TrickyDicky 0 #16 March 9, 2006 QuoteSome info from Skydive Sibson received in an email yesterday....does anyone know what a SMG 92 is like? Is it like a Pilatus porter? Climb rate etc? Single engine porter like aircraft with a left hand door. Same engine as the dornier's engines (750HP turbine irrc), So FAST (though not as fast as the dornier!). Its also very warm as the door is part of the fuselage (push button, slide down side of plane). Door is about the same size as a porter, but a massive step on the ouside that goes most the way down the plane, and a long float bar. You can probably get all 10 people on the outside. With a full load (10) its unconfortable if you're at the tail end as the ceiling gets low when you're sitting on the bench. But certainly not as tight as a porter. TrickyDicky 0 #17 March 9, 2006 Btw, this is a SMG-92 Turbine Finist http://www.airliners.net/search/photo.search?front=yes&maxres=500&keywords=SMG-92 The one you'll probably get at Sibson is the Blue one with checkered tail as it's Hib's UK Skydiver for all your UK skydiving needs. skyblu3 0 #23 March 14, 2006 has the SMG 92 Turbo Finist recently been certified to fly in the U.k.?? I haven't seen this aircraft before but it looks like a very interesting upgrade for Cessna drop zones.
