Stratosphere Parachute Jump

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know about a current plan to parachute from the stratosphere like Joe Kittinger did in the 60's? Doing a documentary on high altitude parachute jumps and appreciate any insight. I know about Rodd Millner (he was suppose to do it in 2001) Cheryl Stearns & Michel Fournier (he was also to do it but his last attempt was in 2002) attempts. Is anyone out there doing it or these characters doing it for real???

Thanks

David

Well apparently he's now planning to do it in 2007, at least thats the number on his web page. There have been other previous dates set and missed. I've heard a rumour that this guy has a record of grand plans that don't come to fruition.

he'll have either a weather problem, technical problem or funding problem.

100$ on that.

oh yeah and now the manufacturer of his rig had huge problems du to manufacturing without license or something.. Maybe that'll stop him this time.

the Stratosphere wasn't built until the late 90s. How did Joe jump do it?

Seriously, I can't imagine no one has managed to jump it yet, even with the airport like security.

I will go...... I want to feel the sonic boom on my toes in a Speed Skydive from 100,000'+B|

That would be a cooler record than the one I already have.:D

Record... shmmeckord... you're not so fast... I sunk out on you on the anvil load at LP.

Now of course that was on my belly and I'm not stupid enough to challenge you head down!

I've lost 50 lbs since last summer, soon I won't even qualify as an anvil with gear!

Glad to hear from you Amazon!

Michel Fournier is more likely to make it your Stratosphere ;)

Did you know of this ceremony:

There is some contention about whether Kittenger went faster than sound. My understanding is that his reported maximum speed is not higher than the speed of sound, even if it had happened at 102,000 feet.

I wonder if you can be any help to me. I was interested in trying to beat Kittinger's record of 102,800 ft. I was inquiring with NASA through a general help page, and looking at Sir Richard Branson who is starting his Virgin Galactic sub- orbital space flights this year. So far my efforts have not produced any substantial leads. If you know any people who can assist me I would be very grateful.

I'd suggest giving Cheryl Stearns a call. She's been trying for a few years now to get the gear/money/vehicle together for an attempt of her own. To say the effort is complex, expensive and dangerous would be a massive understatement.
