I have never been to Florida before! I was wondering how is the weather for jumping in late March? Thanks. :)

Same as it is most the rest of the year...

Stop by Fitzgerald,Ga the third weekend on your way down.

X-2!!! As long as Chris has the Fitzgerald Boogie, it will be NON-sLyride, so that is a great place to be!

March weather in Florida is generally great. What type of skydiving are you planning to do?

Unless you are going to be moving around in Florida, check with the different DZ's to see what is going on before you finalize your plans. Some DZ's are more noted for fun jumpers, i.e., Z-Hills, all the time as opposed to teams.

Now I have more questions! A friend had suggested Skydive Sebastian, so I am between that DZ and Skydive City (because I know a couple riggers who travel there over winter break). I have not really looked in DeLand because I do not know if they also have [free] tent camping available.

I would only be looking to do some fun jumps, even if I have to do solos. I am newly A-licensed, so I do not think too many people would be interested in including me on their dives. (I might mess it up :() I am not rushing to participate in a boogie quite yet either, however, if there is one that happens to be going on that would allow me (freshly A-licensed) to join, I definitely would!

Now that I got a straight answer about the weather down there, I am possibly interested in getting a 20-jump package (if available) from the DZ I stay at. I am trying to plan this trip on a college-student budget, which would require the free tent camping option, showers available, and food on premises. B|

Come to Z-Hills.... You will love it and there are organizers who will get you on loads, if that is what you want to do. You can always jump solo too.

There is tent space and showers and always a great time.. Lots of other DZ's in the state and they all have their personality. Get to know them all.......

You must be kidding, right?
I lived in Florida for a long time and got my Private pilot license there. Having said that if you don't like heat and oppressive humidity stay away from Florida between May to October.

I know for a fact that Annemarie at Z-hills would find you someone to jump with, if not jumping with her (sometimes her groups get somewhat large so they try to split them up between organizers). I've been on dozens of jumps with people who just got their A-license, she tailors the jumps and the slots to the experience levels of the people jumping. Don't worry about screwing it up ;)

I've lived here for a year now, you think this is hot and humid, try Houston out... (or some places in Iraq). I'll take this any day of the week.

I'm also getting my PPL down here, sure, it's a little bumpy, but hey, it's nothing to whine about, at least in the plane, if I don't like the landing approach, I can do a go-around. :D

You are right pretty close about the weather... From October through April is definitely the best time of the year down here.

I've been here since the mid 70's and from June through September there are a lot of better places to be. Hurricanes, tropical storms, mosquitos, love bugs and cock roaches.... It just doesn't get any better...

MK, getting on a load is not going to be your problem. Guys love taking "super hot" looking girls on the load. You just need to make sure you don't get on loads that are so far over your skill level that safety becomes an issue. You can find lots of fun and challenging loads without getting in over your head. Have fun!

Well, is it possible to put me in contact with someone who is in Sisters in Skydiving? Or the person mentioned above that does load organizing at Z-Hills? I would love to do small group jumps, but I am not ready for larger ones. I will spend my first day or two getting familiar with the drop zone first and learning about places to land out, in case something were to arise. :)
So far, I have kept my currency! (YAY) I hope to do a few jumps before heading down there too.

P.S. I am not super hot. Just saying.

Glad to see you are taking a more level headed approach to jumping than a lot of newer jumpers I have seen over the years. You might try USPA's website and see if they have a link for SIS. If not, email them and ask if they have a way to contact members in that area. I should think contacting Z Hills would be the way to get in touch with the lady that was mentioned in the post. If she is a regular there, they can get you connected to her.

Let me know when you're getting closer to coming down, I'll get you in contact with her.

Though, don't really need to warn her, you could easily show up to manifest and ask for her, they will square you away. :)

I have been trying to figure out what the UPT Flight Camp is exactly, I sent Sebastian an email through their website and have not heard back. [:/] As far as the other event, I was going to spend the first couple days scoping out the place, watching other people land their canopies (and where to land out, just in case), and learn my way around the area.

I want to take part in a canopy piloting camp before the end of summer (2012). I communicated with Brian Germain, he said to speak to my DZO up here to set up a camp where he would travel up here and be more than happy to teach! B|

I guess at this point, it looks like Z-Hills would work out better for me, except that their website says they are closed on Tuesdays & Wednesdays... does this mean the camp grounds too? Showers? Food? :S (Just checking). It would cost me more to fly in by Z-Hills than Sebastian, but if I have more learning opportunities, I think it will be worth the extra travel cost.

My Spring Break starts March 23 and can go until April 1. I could always see about missing a day of classes and leave the 21st (which has shown to be cheaper for my flight). *shrugs* Some thing I do not have to decide quite yet, I need to see how the classes are for the semester and if I would be able to afford that day off of classes just to leave early.

Anyways, I am just trying to prepare myself ahead of time, gain knowledge of the drop zones, the area, and other things going on during my tentative visit time. I really appreciate all the feedback I have been given so far! Thanks!

Couple days? You'll only have what about 10 days? 2 of which Z-Hills would be closed if you go there. Check it out on google maps, maybe spend half a day and get to it! Maybe arrange open high so you have more time to scope it out? If you need a ride or want to check out Skydive Tampa or Sebastian or even somewhere else let me know and if I haven't moved away yet I'll help you out if I can.
