But wait... isn't that welfare?

Recommended Posts

The US government is sending taxpayer money to it's citizens in a time of crisis.

Money from the taxpayers that we don't have to do a bit of work to receive.  Sounds like welfare to me... or dare I say even (gasp!) socialism

Makes me wonder how many of those who loudly condemn people on public aid are happily cashing their welfare checks and bragging about what awesome thing they are buying with it.

I'm getting me a new desktop with mine.  Socialism FTW.

Not to mention Harvard, sitting on a $40B endowment, getting $8.7M in relief:

https://www.newsweek.com/harvard-40-billion-endowment-will-receive-87-million-federal-aid-coronavirus-relief-1498366

Or Ruth's Chris steakhouse, which has plenty of money in reserve, getting $20 million on a $10 million payroll-guarantee loan intended to protect people's paychecks.  (They found a loophole and were able to claim they were two different companies.)

However, I do have to give kudos to Shake Shack, which also got a loan (but had plenty of money) - and gave it back.

On Facebook I saw how they are rationalizing it.

When the government gives money to anyone on the left, it's socialism, or communism, or "government picking winners and losers" or "takers getting handouts."

When the government gives money to anyone on the right, it's "returning our own tax money to us" or "giving me what they owe me."

And we are about to see the same in business. Where support for renewable energy was seen as "picking winners and losers" and not letting the open market do its thing. We will now see strong support from those same people to help oil industry.

Brenthutch will disappear for a while so he doesn't have to address this.

Other trump supporters will post at least one a day to the effect that SC is all about "trump bashing".

Yet nothing stops them from starting threads about positive trump measures, statements and actions. Based upon science, facts and social benefit to Americans.

Sure.  If there wouldn't be an attack every time they do - They would probably do that more often.

Being confronted with facts isn't an attack. Facing the consequences of putting fantasy over science isn't an attack.

It's a trick, Turtle. Don't let some asshole foreigner, if he even is a foreigner, befuddle you into disclosing a single one of the myriad, irrefutable proofs of the wonderfulness of President Trump. And when you attempted to explain the proof to the poor unfortunate how ever could he see that what seems to be true is not? You might as well attempt to explain 11 dimensional chess to your Labrador.
