Not according to the story you linked. 

Apparently the cops were totally unaware that the charges were going to be dropped. 
The statements they've release seem to indicate they aren't super happy about it.

Doesn't matter.  There are now no charges.  As we have seen with Trump, that means Smollett is 100% innocent, and has done nothing wrong, and anyone who claims he has is a crybaby loser who needs to face facts.

Smollett 100% innocent? That's not what the grand jury thought. The evidence is clearly there. I get your point though. The DOJ and FBI are now investigating the whole deal. There is definitely a two tiered justice system, where liberal celebrities get sweet deals.
