False Flags

Recommended Posts

It is a remarkably effective technique to engage in activities in such a way as to leave another party holding the bag. Someone conducting espionage on the behalf of a party they view as friendly often turns out to have been feeding information to a hostile party that was simply pretending to be a friendly.

In a conflict such as the furball in Syria, there is a real dog's breakfast of players and nobody gets along terribly well with anyone else. Thus, there must be a great temptation to attack one group you don't like and put the blame on another party that you don't like.

Using chemical weapons has more negative effects than benefits. Chemical weapons are a pain in the ass to handle, they are a bitch to control in use, and they get everyone all worked up whenever their deployment is suspected. For some reason people who don't raise an eyebrow when people are blown to smithereens with high explosives get their panties in a knot when people are exposed to chemical weapons but survive. Go figure.

In any event, the reported use of Sarin in Syria was suspicious. The application was very limited, and the casualty count was less than one would expect from your average barrel bomb.

Though everybody blamed the Assad regime, they really had nothing to gain by using chemical weapons, but a lot to lose. Assad may be a lot of things, but stupid is not on the short list.

It turns out that I am not the only one to smell a rat. It seems that for Turkey, the attack is a win-win situation.

This scenario fits. The the attack did not produce enough casualties to have a tactical or strategic impact, but did cause enough of an uproar to rally the world community against the perceived culprits. This suits Turkey's interests, but not Syria's.

If Syria had authored the attack, they would have been braced for the backlash. Being blindsided, however, left them uttering denials that were not deemed credible ('Nerve agents? No way, we're too busy dropping TNT on them').

Ankara is not far from Istanbul aka Byzantium, which put 'Byzantine' into the lexicon. The inheritors of the Ottoman and Byzantine Empires have not lost sight of the playbook that made them a major power for those many centuries.

Not that I am a huge fan of the Alawites, but it does not strike me that they were behind this one.

Unless they were found out. In which case it would be a disaster.

FWIW, Michael Savage stated, soon after the chemical use in Syria was reported, that 1) he did not believe it was Sarin gas because of the symptoms of the victims and 2) there was little to no proof Assad ordered the attack. Like you, Savage did not believe the attack would benefit Assad and would have been foolish on his part.

As a side note, Savage holds a couple of MAs and a PhD.

A 4-sided war.
Nothing new.
Humans have fought multi-combatant wars as long as we have had more than 2 tribes.
Undercutting an ally is standard procedure if it will improve a nation's post-war position.

For example, World War 2 was as not just about defeating fascism (Hitler in Germany, Mussolini in Italy and a military junta in Japan). Sure Russia, the British Commonwealth and various conquered countries were all trying to push fascists back to pre-war borders, but the most important issues were decided at the Breton Woods Conference. That was when the USA rewrote the global economic map. The USA emerged as the winner of WW2 because the country gained trading rights in most of the British Commonwealth. This undercut the British Empire so badly that Britain relinquished most of her colonies in a mere 20 years!

Meanwhile, the future of France was a struggle between Gaulist, communist, fascist, royalist, etc. factions. The future of France was decided when Churchill grudgingly decided to support General de Gaulle.

Agreed. The US was also getting very nervous about the growing power of Russia. That was one of the reasons the US wanted to use nuclear weapons in a war where victory was inevitable; their use in Japan served as a very visible warning to Russia that the US had the upper hand there.

As another side not, Savage is an idiot and if he ever finds himself in a similar situation as a Alex Jones, he'll claim it's all an act. Selling supplements to cancer patients with the promise of being cured is about as low as a person can sink.

I don't think either of them are idiots. However, I do think they're both assholes, who see themselves as power and opinion brokers, and who would willingly trade intellectual integrity for what they see as influence and power.

It is good that the medical practice has dedicated professionals such as you. It is the third leading cause of death in the U.S. Be diligent in your study and increase your peer review.

Just yesterday an elderly patient was killed at a local hospital in Murphy, NC when the incorrect placement of a PICC line severed an artery and the patient bled to death.
