Walmart Warehouse Workers Strike

The six Walmart heirs now have more wealth than the bottom 42 percent of Americans combined, up from 30 percent in 2007. Between 2007 and 2010, the collective wealth of the six richest Waltons rose from $73 billion to $90 billion, while the wealth of the average American declined from $126,000 to $77,000.

Let's consider who shops at Walmart. If you got your wish and the minimum wage is raised, resulting in a $2800/year spending increase per recipient, do you think the wealth of the Waltons would increase or decrease?

Yes they are rich. Who cares, its their money and they earned it. What about how they helped peoples pension funds grow? Union workers who own the stock. Do you have a wiki cut and paste about that?

While their combined fortune has not increased substantially from that of Sam Walton at his death in 1992...the market cap for Walmart certainly did.

The decrease cited by DD, of course, is due to real estate and if left alone, will rebound. (alternatively, the valuation in 2007 was bubble driven - one shouldn't place 80% of their net worth in their home anyway)

The workers earn the profit - the 1% take the profit. Result - workers have to be subsidised by the state...

...with money that is taxed from the 1%. Isn't that your endgame, anyway?

If the workers kept more of the profit they earn they wouldn't have to be subsidised by the state.

What profit do they earn?

What profit do they earn?

they don't earn profit

they earn the wage or salary that they negotiated for their services

it's simple really

Walmart make a profit. The workers do the work that makes the profit.

And what they earn is the wage they agreed to work for

They do not earn profit

The Walmart heirs certainly haven't earned the profit so that only leaves the workers.

Please focus and stay on topic

It seems to be hard for you

Unless employees are part owners which are sometimges known as associates, they earn a wage not profit

It is your position that the employess should get all the profit from thier work?

The workers have earned the profit. The 1% take the profit. Simple.

When about 650 members of community, labor and faith organizations rallied today in Elwood, Illinois in support of workers at a key Walmart warehouse striking to protest “poverty wages,” sexual harassment, racial discrimination and extreme work conditions, they were met with riot-gear-clad police and the private security Illinois Law Enforcement Alarm System Mobile Field Force who surrounded them, arrested all 47 who committed civil disobedience by sitting in the road, and told the other peaceful protesters to disperse or risk “chemical or less lethal munitions being deployed.”

But not the actual people that work there. This might be even more lame than your original post.

Among those arrested were Will County Board member Jackie Traynere, the Rev. Craig Purchase of Mount Zion Tabernacle Church in Joliet, the Rev. Raymond Lescher of Sacred Heart Church in Joliet and Charlotte Droogan, lay minister at Universalist Unitarian Church of Joliet, the Southtown Star reports.

Mike Compton, one of the striking warehouse workers who walked off the job, said after working at the warehouse for three months, he was a veteran worker because the turnover is so high. He said everyone quits because “They call us bodies and that’s what we feel like.”

Walmart, famous for union-busting and employee abuse, is heavily subsidized by the state i.e., US taxpayers with many of its employees relying on food stamps and state-run health insurance for survival.

Despite these dire working conditions, Walmart claims the WWJ is out to fulfill a nefarious agenda.

Today, for the first time in Walmart’s fifty-year history, workers at multiple stores are out on strike. Minutes ago, dozens of workers at Southern California stores launched a one-day work stoppage in protest of alleged retaliation against their attempts to organize. In a few hours, they’ll join supporters for a mass rally outside a Pico Rivera, CA store. This is the latest – and most dramatic – of the recent escalations in the decades-long struggle between organized labor and the largest private employer in the world.

TWO stores! OMG!

Useful data: Walmart has 8500 stores.
