someone who gets a $3.5 million inheritance...

When your parents die, I want all their money given to me, not you.
(Since you are ok with that. We'll call it a tax. I have determined that I am more deserving of it than you.
According to you, your parents have no right to determine where their money goes.)

Hey Damit

I want my piece of it too!!>:(

My dad had a small business. I worked with him to build it. From a sweat equity point of view it was as much mine as it was his. But when he died and left it to me the government took such a big bite of it that i had to sell to pay what they wanted.
Fuck Barney Frank and all his useless cronies. >:(

The fact that you and your father were able to build a business is really impressive. Too bad you and your dad weren't savvy enough to hire the right people to structure ownership in such a way as to be able to avoid an unplanned for tax burden. Had the right advisors been hired and their advice followed, things would have been different.

I am supposed to feel sorry for you because you failed to follow basic business principles?

I don't think so...

So, you think it is OK for the government to step in and close small businesses , just becuase they lacked a tax planner?

So now ht ecountry is down one more small business, and anotehr family lost it's bread winner, But you don;t feel bad about that...after all, it wasn't you!

Bad management causes lots of businesses to close. It's called "CAPITALISM". The properly managed businesses thrive AND pay their taxes.

I seem to remember some things about depreciation etc pertaining to equipment and other assets that make those horrible tax burdens a bit more palatable as well.

(Just think of all those big ole redneck trucks ( with the company logo on the side to keep it all legal) that have been expensed or amortized off to said red necks business):ph34r::ph34r:

I hear accountants make pretty good money after going to college and getting all those state certs and licenses in order to help out business people plan for such eventuality as death and taxes.

sounds like you want to have inheritance tax at 100% - the majority of us just want to double the present rate (that still leaves $1.75 million to inherit tax free) - much more sensible wouldn't you agree :)

If you are referring to me you are wrong. The value of the business (according to the government) was closer to 5 mill. After taxes, etc. I ended up with about 1.5 mill. That was enough to pay off my business loans and my home. Though comfortable I am far from rich and still work every day.
If you would like the same lifestyle then i suggest you get busy and work instead of hanging around an internet forum. Why am i here? Because i worked my ass off and can now take the time to hang here.
There are those who dream and those who do. Which one are you?

Not all. For some reason, you have defined yourself
as included in the "majority of us".
Then, determining that this "majority" has the right to
decide the disposition of the person property of another.
I have decided that I should be that person.
My opinion is far more valid than yours.

You believe that you should determine the target of
specific taxes, based on their income (always above yours).
I am determining the target, based on my own personal morality.

I have determined that you are not worthy of the inheritance. Your parents earned it, not you.

I determine the target and the amount of taxes, not you.

In this country, slavery was still legal at one point.
You are making the erroneous assumption that legality is morality.

Physical slavery was an immoral law that was changed
because human beings were forced to give the fruits of their labor to others.

So, you suggest that someone should work all their
lives, pay taxes, and yet have it stolen after their death.

Apparently, you are merely defining the new monetary slavery. The right to work, but not retain the right of personal property.

I appoint you the new slave-master, and chief thief-designate.

What an odd response. Not a logical agreement or disagreement.

You are the one who refutes the right to private property.
I am the one who supports the right to earn, to keep earnings,
and to dispose of the them as I see fit.

Then I shall support your rules as they benefit me.
I will dispose of your parents private assets as I see fit, with your permission. Thanks.

All I have offered is common sense and illustrated the
flaws in your argument.
All you have returned is the argumentative bankruptcy of name-calling. Good day.
