What's wrong in Education today!!!!

Recommended Posts

At a faculty meeting today, teachers were told that we cannot require students to stand for the weekly Pledge of Allegiance. It might be construed by an attorney to be in violation with their "constitutional" rights?????? :|

Today is the first time in almost 20 years of teaching that I'm ashamed of my profession! [:/]

What adds insult to injury is that several returning vets of the recent wars were present to here this. >:(

Parents and students be warned... During the weekly Pledge of Allegiance, everyone in my class room will stand. You do not have to Pledge Allegiance, but you will stand to show respect for those who have fought and died for your right not to. :)

I know, we should shove Americanness down their fucking throats. See, our generation had America shoved down our throats, so should they. The idea of choice is so unAmerican, WTF is going on. Dissent is so bad, unless we're tea baggers advocating the Boston Tea Party, right? So fun to be selective.

Everything is a system, skydiving, education, gov, sex...

This is an update to a system.

If it's a big-way, we can't be freaky flying or vise versa... gotta do what the system says.

So, the balance of the big-way education system has fallen to support it's weakest link, those who are offended by opposing views, gottta all be the same in a system for it to run smoothly, I suppose.

I teach technical education (fancy way of saying shop teacher).

Groovy. Teach shop and leave the civics lessons where they belong; civics class.

Would that be the part where learn that they're SUPPOSED to stand and face the flag during the pledge, or is that indoctrination as well?

I teach technical education (fancy way of saying shop teacher). But I take pride in the fact that I can shape young kids minds. Hopefully, sometimes even for the better.

What I'm ashamed of is that I'm not being allowed to teach about the cost of freedom or the responsibility of patriotism. In fact, I'm being told to look the other way. Sometimes the lessons we teach the loudest are the ones we fail to teach at all.

LECTURE: Kids, when forming steel we need to heat the material and then forge it, just like Custer forged across the ...... and Moses forged ahead and parted the Red Sea.....oh, what was I saying? Oh yea, so you heat the material and hammer it over an anvil like McCarthur hammered out Communism and Reagan hammered down the Berlin Wall.....uh, what was I saying? Oh yea, so once you hammer the steel over the anvil, you quench it in water to harden it like the true patriots threw bags of tea in the harbor in Boston on December 16, 1773 telling the Britts to shove their taxes up their ass.

Ok kids, do you understand what we're going to do today?

KIDS: :o

But they will-gotta start with the building block. Your position is since they can't understand physics, we shouldn't teach addition.

No. What I'm saying is that reciting the pledge before understanding what the words mean is meaningless. Four and five year olds don't have the vocabulary to even begin to understand it.

What I'm suggesting is that it would be more helpful at that age to teach them what the words mean, than to parrot meaningless words.

That's teh beauty of it; we brainwash/condition young so it sticks.

. . . than to parrot meaningless words.

I am sorry you find them meaningless.

Most of the country takes pride in it.:|

Now you're speaking for most of the country.

I take pride in those words because a teacher taught me how.

You can't teach a civic perspective, you formulate your own. Trying to teach that is coercive.

teachers were told that we cannot require students to...

This is half the problem. Teaching and public education are approaching the point where the job of the teacher will be described as:
(1) Things they are required to do
(2) Things they are prohibited from doing

Take a look at the California Education Code:
http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/cgi-bin/calawquery?codesection=edc&codebody=&hits=20

Yes, tens of thousands of individual laws just for this state.
Add California Regulations, Federal laws and federal regulations and you've got an education system that it unduly burdensome, expensive and top heavy with administrative and compliance staff.

Dude...take heart. You're not gonna find a whole lot of people on these boards that think what you're saying and feeling is correct. You're not allowed to say and feel that way anymore around here. It's not cool.

Probably the single largest difference is how they were raised, or when they were raised. They most likely didn't have relatives who fought and died for their country. They would much rather diminish the sacrifice in the name of being PC. They don't understand and they never will.
Please don't dent the planet.

and so they discuss it-and learn. her first graders are doing the same thing this year and the day they tell her she shouldn't promote the USA in her classroom is the day that she leaves.

You're telling me that a four-year-old understands words like allegiance and republic? I seriously doubt most adults understand the word republic.

Read the whole thing again-slowly. I can't stupid it up any more so you're just going to have to bring yourself up.

Mmmm mmm mm - Barack Hussein Obama.

GOV. GEORGE W. BUSH (R-TX), PRESIDENT-ELECT: I told all four that there were going to be some times where we don't agree with each other. But that's OK. If this were a dictatorship, it'd be a heck of a lot easier, just so long as I'm the dictator.

OK, so what supports your nonresponse?

Rememeber, only real Americans love this country. Real Americans are Republicans (puke). Real Americans serve the country.

What a gaggle of shit, you infer that if you don't want the chant you don't get it. So many who allegedly do get it and want forced everything have never served and ran from military service.

Here's for your real Americans: http://www.awolbush.com/whoserved.html

Wrong. Dead wrong. What they fought and died for was the FREEDOM FROM the exact kind of indoctrination you are now advocating as mandatory.

I'd rather recite the Deceleration of Independence, or the preamble to the Constitution itself, both actually MEAN something the pledge of allegiance does not.

No one swears an oath to the pledge of allegiance, no one who dies in a war does so for the pledge of allegiance, forcing it down the throat of another generation flies in the face and spits on the sacrifice of those who have died for the Constitution.

sad that so many 'patriots' cant see the difference.

I'm told (and I'm checking into it) the state requires us to reciet the Pledge once a week???

As for the meaning of the words, These are High School students. If they don't get it, we have bigger issues. On Wednesday, I'll be playing Red Skeltons version of the Pledge. This is not a new issue.

I'll share with you John Wayne's Version of the Pledge of Allegiance

Maybe you should attend a military funeral, to remind you of what the flag means to the military.

Oh, wait - they honor that flag and their country - guess that means they aren't 'patriots' in your eyes.
