For the first time since I turned 18 (I'm 30 now) I am not going to vote. I am so pissed at what this election has turned into I refuse to get involved. Both sides are a bunch of fakes that will say anything to blow a bunch of smoke up our asses and try to make us chear and yell and make us think they really care about the people. They dont! All they care about is power. Power and our money!

I cannot go to the polls and vote for lesser of 2 evils again like I did last time. When I was 18 I was still in High School. Election day came, I was so proud to have voted. I met most of the local officials in my area and went to see them speak at the rallys on both sides. I read up on the local issues. Clinton and Dole was my choice for president. Clinton got my vote that year. In 2000 I voted for Bush. I thought we needed some new ideas in the House from the Clinton years. The last election I voted the lesser of 2 evils and look at what that got me! So this year I am standin on the sidelines.


Both side have brought out the worse in them. McCain is going around saying anything he thinks will get a vote out of you. Obama is out there trying to buy votes with all the new Govt programs he wants because he thinks we as Americans are either to weak or to stupid to take care of ourselves. Both sides are full of shit and no matter who wins the next 4 years are gonna be rough.

I just cannot believe with the pain that a lot of people are going through, neither side has a clear advantage in this election. With the hate that is shown towards the White House and Bush Obama has not been able to rally the people and blow McCain out of the water. I dont know why but I think he has a hard 4 years ahead of him if he wins. Good luck to both sides today. I really mean that. Hopefully someone brings some calm to this country. I will be on the sidelines today drinking a Sam Adams watching this FUCK FEST that we call election day.

To say you are not voting at all, I think should be reconsidered. There are other choices. Trying voting for the person(s) that most closely follow your beliefs if you want to see some changes from the 2 party system.

And i am sure your ballot probably has a lot of other stuff on it worthy of your choices.....not just the President.

I share your sentiment. My apathy is at an all time high. Both sides totally suck rocks. How depressing that the greatest democracy in the world has come down to this BS. We are one small step away from both parties putting out a I-know-you-are-but-what-am-I advertisement. Fucking pathetic.

If McCain had not chosen window dressing for a VP, he would probably get my vote. If there was any moderation to Obama's desire to take us down the path to full-fledged socialism, he might get my vote.

Hard to believe how polarized we have become, and how crippling that polarity is in preventing the use of common sense and generating effective change and intelligent movement into the future.

IMO, anybody who thinks either slate, or either parties agenda is exactly what the country needs ought to get a psych evaluation.

I acknowledge the other party options, but know that unless they get a meaningful share, it is ignored. I'd say anything under 5% is trifling, but I'm probably gonna do it anyway. Who knows, maybe 10% of the voting public does it and we at least send a strong message.

Last time I felt similarly (1992), I voted Perot; simply as a protest vote.

I would agree. The voting for lesser of two evils still means your voting for an unacceptable choice - so don't. Vote your conscience. Vote for the person you think would be the best candidate, even if it means writing in the name. At least you are not "wasting" a vote.

And, there are local races, proposals, etc., that need your input, so get out and vote for them. But don't sit it out totally.

Sorry to hear that you're giving up. Think about it some more. The polls won't close for hours.

That said, I'm actually feeling pretty good about my vote. I'm hoping this is a turning point for our country. I like to think that having an influx of younger voters, those who are more technologically savvy, will combine with the information age and help eventually crush old school politics. We need more daylight in our government and they're the ones to do it.
I also think that my chosen candidate can provide some positive influence both domestically and globally.
What can I say? I'm feeling optimistic today.

It is a hard decision. It's hard for everyone. If you decline to help make that decision I hope you are not going to complain about the decision that others make in your absence. I couldnt disagree with this statement more and I agree completely with the original poster. (Even though I did vote this year.)

I recently had a conversation with some very liberal people at a local pub. (Actually i was fending off attacks.) Anway, when I told them that I have abstained from voting on an occasion they claimed I was unAmerican and it was my responsability to vote.

Really? I thought voting was a RIGHT?

Thats the great thing about a RIGHT, it means you have a choice, and neither choice is wrong. I also have a right to bear arms but I do not own a firearm. Does that also make me unAmerican?

People are always yelling about making sure you exercise your right to vote, but honestly, as long as you are registered and you make a well thought out decision about who you vote for or even decide not to vote you are still exercising that right.

Telling people they HAVE to do something is the beginning of a long slippery slope that many other countries have fallen victim to.

I just returned fron casting my ballot. I voted for those candidates I felt will do a good job and skipped those contests in which i didn't like any of the candidates. I also did not make a selection on a couple bond issues and other local issues.
The selection of Pres. and VP are just a small fraction of the issues being decided today. Please reconsider not voting. If you don't like any of the presidential candidates, then don't vote for any of them.
Of course, choosing not to vote is still making a choice.
