Westboro Baptists to Picket VA Tech Funerals

But then why stop at funerals?

They don't, they actively protest other churches in their area during church services. :S

Oh and if you haven't watched the Youtube (most hated family in america) part 5 Father Phelps talks about eating babies but I couldn't quite understand who he thought was eating the babies...

We saw the price society has to pay for the right to bear arms a couple of days ago.

No, not really! VT was a gun free campus if I remember correctly. Boy, all those "Gun Control" laws sure did there job. Never mind the laws about murder. Lets put another 3,000 laws in the books against firearms and murder. I'm sure they will get the point sometime in the future.

Now we see the price to pay for the right to free speech.

I dont agree with what they say but it is there right. I just wish I had a right to go whoop some ass. These people are sick but it is still there right to say it. To bad they dont have some restraint.>:(
If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck!

The first thing that went through my mind after "OMG! What a tragedy!" was "I wonder if this would've been different if some of the victims had been able to shoot back?"

A reasonable thought.
Another reasonable thought might be, "He was a police-reported, court-adjudicated mentally ill person who legally bought his guns as easily as a quart of milk. I wonder how many fewer people he would have killed if he'd only had a big knife?"

Their actions are wrong and they need to be stopped. If I have up my right constitutional right to protest at funerals to stop these people, I gladly will.

so many Americans have died defending rights like the first Amendment, and you're willing to give it up just to avoid some christian assholes?!?

Or was the statement a bit of an exaggeration?

War protestors should be able to demonstrate at funerals.

As for Phelps - I don't get it, really. Their lack of taste is so craven and I don't see how they can rationally believe they will convert others by these actions.

No, we didn't.

Yeah, because we responded so strongly to WTC I in 1993, and the Embassy bombings, and the USS Cole...:S

Come on Bill, we spent a good part of the 90s rolling over.

As to the original post, I think the press coverage of these people is doing the right thing. These people will remain benignly disrespectful of the dead heroes and victims for all the world to see and disregard.
So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh
Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright
'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life

Is it your assertion that we let the people who pulled off WTC I go? Or did we prosecute them?

>Come on Bill, we spent a good part of the 90s rolling over.

If "enforcing our laws" equals "rolling over" then yes, we did "roll over" and I hope we always do.

Hard to believe. What a world we live in.

Story

Anti-gay group to picket Va. Tech funerals
TOPEKA, Kan., April 19 (UPI) -- An anti-gay group from Topeka, Kan., announced plans to picket the funerals of victims of the Virginia Tech massacre.
The Westboro Baptist Church, which is not affiliated with any national Baptist organization, claims shooter Cho Seung-hui was carrying out God's wishes by punishing the victims who weren't Christian, CBS News reported.
.

Those goddamn fucknuggets! If it was me, I'd just line up the pastor and co-leaders from that shit-group and blast them to hell, then their followers will scatter and go home.

I mean, what the fuck?!? We're all so tired of their bullshit. :|

By treating it as a petty crime instead of an act of war, yes. Getting a couple guys for WTC I, and netting nothing for our Embassies, the USS cole, ad infinitum is not a very good track record.

Which laws were enforced in after 1993? Those laws were not reviewed and somehow, they seemed to interfere with our ability to get at OBL several times. There was no threat assessment.

Yeah, that embarasses me too. I mean, there should definitely have been a few thousand dead innocents in retribution for each of those attacks.

Luckily the current administration properly reflects our bloodthirst.

What then is an appropriate response to being attacked? A "Time out"? A stern talking-to? Not letting them have their glass of Merlot w/their pheasant under glass?
Illinois needs a CCW Law. NOW.

Sh*t, if I'd been drinking milk while reading that, it would've come out of my nose! :D:D

After all, disallowing the Merlot whilst trying to enjoy pheasant under glass is indeed cruel and unusual.

Back to the original subject, the Westboro crew prove that freedom of speech is not a double edged sword. These people would incite intrigue if they were banned from expressing themselves.

Oooh. You really showed me.

'cause after all there nothing in between those two extremes. Mine represents the reality we see daily (mass killing of innocents) and yours is some bizarre pornographic fantasy you have about politics of "the other side" (luxury dietary restrictions). You really hit on the truth there.

I'm totally shamed by this lesson in reason and sanity you portray. :S

If only our posts were as well thought out, relevant and civil as yours... we'd all be that much better off. We are fortunate to have posters who don't resort to condescending sarcasm, cheap shots or smarmy off tangent distractions.

Thanks for all you do.

Do the pastor and co-leaders even have any followers? :S

Right. So should we "keep an eye on" any US soldiers who are religious? Several posters here fit that description, and have been described by other posters in such derogatory terms.

What are you saying?... That Timothy McVeigh thought he was doing God's will?

No...the most prominent man who thinks he's doing God's will these days hasn't ever had anything remotely resembling the mettle necessary to get near a combat zone.

WBC is made up of almost entirely family members. Although a documentary guy recently joined them.
