Very nice, I have upmost respect for all soldiers wherever they are based. Maybe its the case that the majority is silent and only the people with something shitty to say stand up and say it so here's my turn. Lots of us support you guys and girls and I think its a great thing thats being done in the middle east :)

Last time I checked they were all just like my son - volunteers. He doesn't whine about it or expect poignant poems about his mates.

Perhaps your son could teach you something.

I don't want poignant poems about me either.

While it is better to be a civilian in a country not at war than being a solider in an active conflict, statistics from WWII show that the civilian population *really* gets it when the war is taken to them.

Given the situation in for instance Iraq, I'd rather be in a front line USMC group than an Iraqi civilian.

Perhaps it is prudent with an equal celebration of the ordinay citizen living, raising a family and working in a war torn country is in order as well.

Some of the comparisons might be "poignant", but not these two. These two are just the usual slander spoken about those that don't support the war: that they're "unpatriotic". I know many people against the war, but not a one of them who does not wholeheartedly support the troops.
Nobody says it's men like the GI in the Humvee that make the world worse, so cut the slander. What they say is it's men like Karl Rove and Dick Cheney that make it worse.

This is also a slap in the face of every citizen of a democracy who "dares" to criticize his government's decision to go to war; as well as another typical diversion: that if you criticize the Bush inner circle's decision to go to war because they wanted to "take care of unfinished business" with Saddam, that somehow we're insensitive to Saddam's torment of his people. Utter nonsense.

I would take that a step farther.... its politicians who make this world worse, doesnt matter what side of the aisle they are on...

Where the hell have you ever seen a liberal say they do not support the troops?

They do not support the war, but to say they do not support the troops is a absolute lie.

And you know who is to blame? The conservatives that assume that liberals do not support the troops.

You ask any liberal and they would never say that.

Why would anybody who knows that it is not the troops fault where they go, blame them.

That was a lie by conservatives to make liberals look like they hate the military.

Common sense!

Quoted from a post on DU - where it definitely IS the prevailing opinion from the threads I've read:

Quote

My greatest fear, where the anti-war movement is concerned, is that hate for Bush has slopped over and become hate for soldiers in general. Too many people are eager, indeed all too willing, to believe that we're all a bunch of monsters running around out there, ventilating skulls and sucking the brains out through the hole.

Poignant.

Not my take. I would consider it more like irrelevant.

I am strongly against our presence in Iraq, but do not pass judgement on the soldiers. They are following orders and doing their job. I do not think having more or less people like our soldiers would directly correlate to the world being a better or worse place.

I do judge the leaders who sent them there, they are incompetent. Yeah, just my opinion, along with about 60% of the US adult population (and rising all the time).

I think the Rumsfeld doctrine is an abject failure, and Dick Cheney is the prince of darkness. Bush should have listened to Colin Powell. We'd be in a different place today.

If it's boring you, why did you re-quote the entire original long post, putting it back in front of everyone's eyes?

If it bothers you so much, exercise your freedom of choice, and pass over this thread. That freedom of choice was brought to you by brave soldiers.

That's a great quote....
It doesn't feel like the dislike for Bush/Blair etc.. will spill over, so long as the current stories proove to be baseless.... or if true that they can police them selves and coverups dont happen.
