DZ safety warning

Recommended Posts

Did someone say safety meeting! :P

Uh....yea, not a good idea. In practice, I would never hand anyone a loaded gun unless I knew their background and experiances :|

A licenced or trained person, and at the shooting range for training, is a nice safe situation, but they are still nothing to play around with. Those damn things are not toys. [:/]

Now, BB guns...thats a different story :P:D

I remember a slow day at the home DZ, it was cloudy and nobody could jump. Winsor, some of you know him on here, brought out some of his considerable gun collection and we went target shooting in the vacant parking lot with a dirt wall backdrop. I got to try out 4 or 5 different guns, although I don't remember the types, but one or two were unusual. Then I got to try the shotgun, daaaamn what a kick! :o Our old DZO, all of 5 feet and 105 lbs of her, took her turn with the shotgun. I remember thinking, "boy she is gonna fly backwards when she fires that cannon!" So I stood about 3 feet behind her just a tad to the left. She aims, fires... BLAM!!! And sure enough, flies right into my waiting arms! Then we all bust out laughing. :D:D:D

I did learn something though, being fucking deaf, I told Winsor I didn't need the ear protection set, he didn't care, put it on or you don't get to shoot. Apparently the shock waves from the gunshots can cause severe ringing in your head no matter how deaf you are.

I didn't wear ear protection for years and was shooting a lot of .357 mag, and .308 (7.62X51) and it destroyed the hearing in both ears at one of the mid-level spectrums. When people talk in a soft voice like Jean, (Missgatordvr) it is hard for me to hear what they are saying. I hope it doesn't get worse or I may have to take a medical retirement.

Oh BTW, don't "play" with guns ANYWHERE. It's always the idiot with the " it's unloaded" gun the ends up shooting someone else.

don't show them even if you're sober....:|

Why?

What business is it of yours if I want to show a fellow gun enthusiast a firearm that is in my truck, and I do so safely and out in the parking lot?

There is nothing wrong with it!! The Right To Own and Bare Arms ring a bell to anyone.
Some day I will have the best staff in the world!!!

Bullets travel a long way and hurt people; if you want to play with guns I'd personally prefer if you did so on a gun range rather than a DZ. We're not members of the 82nd, practicing for airbone assaults. We don't need live fire exercises at the DZ :P.

turns out some people at a DZ do that stoned or drunk. Contrary to what you would like us to believe not all gun owners are saints and never do anything wrong.....

How did you miss that part about "do so safely"?

Safely showing someone who is interested, a firearm, is not "playing with guns". It's no different than showing a fellow skydiver a new parachute rig, or a new motorcycle.

What you personally prefer doesn't count - you don't have the right to dictate to others.

And all your yak about airborne assaults and live fire exercises just demonstrates how extreme and ridiculous your statements are on this issue. I was talking about safely showing someone a firearm, not even mentioning actually shooting it, and somehow from that you turn it into WWIII. Gosh! That doesn't exactly display a reasoned stance on this subject.

Then one should confine their comments to those who are acting irresponsibly, and not generalize negative comments to all gun owners, as message #2 did.

I would hope that a drop zone owner or manager would stop any dangerous or irresponsible behavior, and make it clear that it is not acceptable. Whether it is with guns, or with skydiving.

Where in the world did I ever do that? You're trying to put words in my mouth, and they don't fit. If you had just omitted the first 10 words in that sentence, I would have agreed with you.

I am a gun owner. I don't show my guns at the DZ.

Whenever I show them, it's with selected people/persons. A DZ is NOT a shooting range. Or maybe are you jumping at some military DZ.

Someone stated the right to own and carry guns or something similar. I am not from your country or continent. Here things work differently... But something you are authorised or have the right to do doesn't mean you HAVE to do it...

Would you show your porn books at the DZ or in a church ??

John, I love it when you go on these trolling rampages...so entertaining.

Who let you out of SC?:D

If you know that there's people at the DZ who dislike displaying them, it's a simple matter of courtesy to not push your imagined "right" to show your weapons at the DZ....simple matter of courtesy and respect for others.

I liked the porn analogy....

I've done the same, at the DZ, with selected people who were interested. I don't go strolling around with a gun amongst a hundred jumpers and whuffos trying to get them to look at my gun.

There you go again! Do you believe it is possible to show someone a gun without shooting it? Why do you always assume that shooting is involved any time a gun is displayed? Do firearm museums have live gunfire criss-crossing inside? Do cops shoot their guns every time they strap one on their hip holster? Every time you jump to this "gunfire" extreme, your argument looks ridiculous.

It doesn't mean that I SHOULDN'T either. If someone is offended by praying, should we quit doing it? If someone is offended by public displays of affection, should we quit hugging and kissing our wives?

People need to be more tolerant of others. Just because they don't like something, that doesn't obligate others to accomodate their quirks. They need to get over it.

I agreed with message #1 that started this thread. But then pissfish in message #2 crossed the line, which is what got me started. If there is trolling involved, that's the message which got it started.

First of all, the right to keep and bear arms is not imaginary, except in Washington, D.C., Chicago and now San Francisco.

And nowhere have I said that I don't respect such courtesy. But you and a few others seem to like to presume that I do - and you're wrong. I don't push guns on anybody. But if the subject comes up and someone is interested, I see nothing wrong with a little sideline show-and-tell.

Courtesy and respect cuts both ways - it also means that those who don't like guns, should respect the rights of those who do, since they are perfectly legal.
