weid14 0 #2 January 7, 2002 those are nice jump planes. there are two sitting right at the airport behind work now (they've been there for a while). The next door down also has a B-17 (24? can't remmeber) they work on every winter, and there has been a DC-3 parked there for the longest time also. then there's the heli's that take off an land on the other side of the building. I dont' go outside at work much, it drives me nuts!

prost 0 #5 January 8, 2002 Yeah but I think you also can get them with turbines. I think they call it a buffallo then. There is a drop zone with a Caribou but I don't think they jump it much. I can't remember where it is right now. Maybe someone else can help out.William
diverdriver 5 #6 January 8, 2002 The Buffalo DHC-5 is a totally different animal. It's bigger. It has a "T" Tail and comes with turbines already. These are turbine converted Caribou. Not a bad idea for a jump plane. Wonder if anyone could make a turbinebou work?Chris Schindlerhttp://www.diverdriver.com
harro 0 #7 January 8, 2002 Probably be a expensive jump ticket!!Freemind, freesky, freebeer, freefly, freesex
diverdriver 5 #8 January 8, 2002 I don't know. It's the price of four otters but it can easily do the work of four otters. Plus it's a tailgate which itself will be a draw. I'm thinking given the right operation I bet it could be done resonably.Chrishttp://www.DiverDriver.com
freeflir29 0 #9 January 8, 2002 "it can easily do the work of four otters"That'd have to be a big boogie to fill it.......and a big field to get everyone on it...."I got some beers....Let's Drink em!!!"Clay
SkymonkeyONE 3 #10 January 8, 2002 The big draw at the Herd Boogie was always Caribous. Not bad planes, but TERRIBLY loud (radial engines) and most had slippery ramps from hydraulic leaks. The USAPT had them as their demo team staple until they bought their Fokker F-27 Friendships. Joe Leith, an video guy (and BASE fanatic) in the old Carolina Council went in while filming an 8 or 12 man tube exit at The Halloween Boogie they used to have at Barnwell, SC in the early to mid '90s. Jesse 0 #13 January 9, 2002 My favorite is the King Air - not too big, not too small - and loads of power
AggieDave 6 #14 January 9, 2002 Gotta love the C182 for it's homey feeling, but my favorite has to be a S.Otter. Fast, good number of jumpers, nice sized door. But for fun, god I loved jumping a CASA...talk about fun Success is how high you bounce when you hit bottom.-General George Patton-
freeflir29 0 #15 January 9, 2002 C-17....all time favorite. What a BIG freakin airplane....comfy troop seats too...."I got some beers....Let's Drink em!!!"Clay
RemiAndKaren 0 #16 January 9, 2002 anything with a tailgate (allthouth I'll take a fast S. Otter over a slow Skyvan if it means 1 or 2 more jumps in a day).....the favorite of the ones I've jumped: the AN 72..... RemiMuff
sunshine 2 #17 January 9, 2002 CASA is definately the best. It may take a little longer to get to altitude than a super otter, but god i love that tailgate. And it's the best plane to get a running start to tackle the video man and push him out of the plane. nacmacfeegle 0 #18 January 9, 2002 I'd go with the AN 72, I like 'em even more than hercs. I think Vichy once had an Ilyushin 76, now that would have been fun.

RemiAndKaren 0 #20 January 10, 2002 QuoteIlyushin 76was that the chopper? Yea.. they used a big ass chopper for a few years... that would have been cool... Talking to some who went to those boogies, the last one they had was scary! a little too old and not too well maintained! lol.. thats why they went for the AN 72 after I think....too bad we were in North America at the time... Norman kent has some cool pics of exits from those boogies in his book.RemiMuff
freeflir29 0 #21 January 10, 2002 IL 76 is a large cargo jet similar to a C-141htttp://bird3.bird.ch/Russians/Il76/IL76P01.html"I got some beers....Let's Drink em!!!"Clay
RemiAndKaren 0 #22 January 10, 2002 then I dont think they used that bird at Espace to my knowledge. They did use large choppers (I thinkMI something or another).RemiMuff
