I was actually a bit ahead of schedule, until my laptop died and made things much more difficult. I will be putting in plenty of overtime when I get it back from Best Buy repairs. No worries - its all part of life. My greatest hurdle, right now is finding music I can get permission to use. We have been talking to some hopefuls that've fallen through. If any musicians/groupies have some tracks we can listen to, it'd be a great opportunity to get some exposure for your music. Here's the update as of this morning. I just picked up the repaired laptop from Best Buy. The Warranty has been well worth it, but it doesn't save everything... There was a problem with the CD-ROM drive, which locked the computer up. The service department replaced the CD-ROM drive, and unfortunately replaced the entire hard drive. The only explanation I got was "The hard-drive was bad." Cajones backs up his hard-drive regularly, however, did not get to back up two weeks worth of work in cataloging footage that was saved as a file on the desktop. That file is gone. This post is to inform you as honestly and as up-front as possible that there is a delay in the project and we are doing our best to finish the video as fast as we can. At this point, having lost two weeks of work, we estimate that we will be 2 weeks behind in delivery. Good news!... We have good music, and it should not be viewed as "cheap porn video" music. Cajones has been working hard and making a lot of contacts with bands all over the country. If you have followed Duece's posts, you should be familiar with this. While you often see top 40 music on tandem and home video's, technically that is illegal. It is a matter of risk. Any video where multiple copies are produced and especially are for sale, it is a copyright infringement to use music without permission and the producers of the video are liable - a lawsuit is something we definitely can't afford. So we search all over for up & coming bands with good music who will give us permission to use on our video for free. It's not an easy task. We are excited about several tracks that we have and especially one band in particular that has a lot of good music we can use on the video. Thank you for your patience. Of course, we will update again as soon as we have any new information to give you. Eloy rocked, this video is going to rock! lewmonst 0 #7 February 25, 2003 Hey Lou, We have all the footage, all the master tapes, which the write-protect tab is broken off of so nothing gets taped over either. And believe me, we got lots and lots of footage, about 43 hours worth! thanks to many contributing great videographers. Cajones and I are editting some sweet eye candy time lapse shots he got right now. And we just got another CD with really good music in the mail today! It's exciting seeing all the little pieces of this huge puzzle... frustrating sometimes when things don't go as they should, but still cool. Cajones 0 #10 February 25, 2003 I'm not quite calm, yet, but I'll post a short reply... I'm a douchenozzle! I can't believe I didn't keep a backup of a file that I didn't think about being so very, very critical. All the toolboxes at Compaq had to do was replace my CD-ROM - there was nothing wrong with my hard-drive. Why they did a Compaq factory system restore is simply assinine. Here's the real kick in the jimmy!... It's not even fixed! I took it back to Best Buy this afternoon, because the freaking thing was locked up tighter than a nuns braziere! I think the poor kid behind the counter though I might pop any second - he stayed well out of arms reach when I started talking. I know it wasn't his fault... I only wanted to squeeze his head a little bit. Well... thanks for letting me vent a bit. Not to worry, as work continues on the video. It's a good thing I have footage of the best Holiday Boogie, ever, to look at and remind me of great times with great people. As an additional note... I have gotten a CD with a few songs that will be appearing on the video. They came from channels brought to us by a skydiver. Not the traditional channels we pursue, but one that has been very pleasantly rewarding. Cajones 0 #15 March 27, 2003 I got a request for an update on the Photo/Video Forum, so I'm guessing I've been a tad behind on posting an update. The Eloy Boogie video is plugging along. I have some new things I'm trying to do with multiple angles that've created a pretty steep learning curve. I can picture it in my mind, so I'm sure there's a way to make it happen on the screen. I spent a few hours today just doing color correction and enhancements on captured footage, so that the angles will be closer in terms of color balance and contrast. I'll post a more accurate delivery date within a few days. By then I'll be ready to find out how far the duplicators are backed up. I've also been investigating the idea of making a limited run of DVD's. These would not be factory pressed, so compatibility would not be guaranteed with all set-top DVD players. No extras, no fancy chaptering - just a few DVD's for those who don't have VCR's and others who'll watch their tapes so much they get worn out. An additional note I neglected on the Photo/Video Forum... Another skydiver has hooked us up with an excellent band! This will be one video you will not want to turn the volume down on the TV to watch! I have moved some other music around, and dropped a track or two that were not to my satisfaction - replaced by some very sweet stuff from California. Just as a mention - I still do not have my laptop back! They repaired it, and it died again while they were testing it. More parts have been ordered, and who knows when I'll get it back.
