Commonly misused words in dropzone.com forums and rec.skydiving

Commonly misused words in dropzone.com forums and rec.skydiving.

I've been meaning to do this for a long time, and finally did. I guess it's just a pet peeve of mine. I created a page where I can point skydivers to when they make ridiculous mistakes misusing and misspelling words, especially those related to their skydiving posts. Many of these I have seen.

Feel free to point people there if they deserve it!

And let me know if you find others.

One of my personal favorites;

Farther -- refers to actual distance.
Further -- refers to an extension of time or degree.

I could not travel any farther along the road.
I do not wish to converse with you any further.

You should add:

CYPRES: An electronic automatic activation device that is intended to deploy a reserve parachute in the event that no parachute is opened at a preset altitude while falling at a preset speed.

OOOhhhhh, OOOOhhhhh!!!

My favorite thing in conversations, both electronic and verbal, is how something coincidental ends up being referred to as "ironic."

Error on yours, dude.

the second "its" needs to be "it's"

Lawrocket is correct. You are missing a squiggle there - possessive ("its") as opposed to the declarative contraction of "it is"...:D

mistake: error
misteak: no such word

Misteak - when I drop my top sirloin cut after pulling it off the grill...:D

You also have an error on the def. for "stair" where you put "yoy" it should be "you".

I'll go with Andrea on the "your" and "you're", but my biggest peeve is the now pervasive use of "could of," "should of" or "would of" instead of the proper "could've," "should've," "would've" OR "could have," "should have," "would have." That one just drives me crazy!! :D

"I would argue xyz..." but you won't for some reason.

or "It could be said that xyz is..." but it isn't.

for the Good Lord's sake exercise your dominion over the written word :P
