Chivo 0 #1 November 26, 2003 I have service with AT&T and I'm considering upgrading my phone & service to GSM. Right now I have a Motorola V60 (TDMA). Since I rarely go out of the city, except to go skydiving, I'm curious about its coverage at the dz, and maybe on the road to the dz from LA. Any comments??? ~Chivo
quade 3 #2 November 26, 2003 The GSM service you get is VERY dependant on the actual instrument you have in your hands. Do a LOT of research on the AT&T web Forums before deciding which phone to get. I persoanlly can't wait (but will have to) until the new v600 comes out next month.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

I thought this was true of most services= crappy phones, crappy connectability

Chivo 0 #7 November 26, 2003 I want the new Motorola MPx200. I might even get it today and try it for a month. If it doesn't have that good connectivity, I'll return it and look for something else. Thanks all for your replies. ~Chivo

According to the T-Mobile website there should be coverage there (from the map) http://www.t-mobile.com/coverage/
joshjumps 0 #9 November 27, 2003 My GSM AT&T phone works at Perris just fine. Having said that I'm probably changing back to a regular digital service soon as I'm unhappy with AT&T's gsm service in other areas. Josh
Gawain 0 #10 November 27, 2003 QuoteGSM suckz... better stay with TDMA And take a step backwards? One word: Verizon Remember, number portability is here and CDMA is the prevailing technology in North America. Greater capacity, better coverage characteristics, faster data, better technology than any Time-divided/channel divided technology (GSM/TDMA/iDEN). Either way, your V60 is dual mode, so it'll scan analog if digital service isn't available. So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright 'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life Make light! Chivo 0 #11 November 27, 2003 Can't switch to Verizon cuz I still have 1 year to go in my current contract w/AT&T. The question is to change to GSM or stay with TDMA. ~Chivo
ltdiver 3 #12 November 27, 2003 QuoteOne word: Verizon Verizon SUCKS at connection quality at my house. AT&T is the only one with half-way decent quality here. ltdiver Don't tell me the sky's the limit when there are footprints on the moon

However, I haven't tested EDGE against CDMA yet. I have the Nokia 6200 (GSM/GPRS/EDGE) and the Siemens S46 (GSM/TDMA/GPRS) ..two of the best phones I have ever used....with the 6200 getting full time use now. I drove from Chicago toTampa with just about full AT&TGSM coverage the entire way. I'm thinking of eventually getting the Treo 600._________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
