Sorry, you can't land here

Recommended Posts

So yesterday at Byron, after all jumping - we're sitting around drinking when we see this plane coming at us... So it does a flyby over the hanger at maybe 400 feet (others can clarify.) So we watch it and it looks like it's setting up to land on the runway. And it does...LOL...but then fires up the throttles and does a touch and go and comes around for a second attempt, or so we thought. This time he just flys over the runway.

Pretty impressive to say the least. Can anyone identify what kind of plane this is ? ;):P

I cant see the picture, but the big one that buzzed the runway was a DC-9.
(according to Derrick)

That's not a DC-9, it looks closer to a Boeing 727, but I'm not familiar with 727s having winglets like that one.

Edit to add: The nose gives it away - That's a 727.
So I try and I scream and I beg and I sigh
Just to prove I'm alive, and it's alright
'Cause tonight there's a way I'll make light of my treacherous life
Make light!

Yup, more than likely it's a 727-200 since some of the refitted 200's have wing tips. looks like someone has a new toy.:)

JT bought a 707, not a 727...

Edit to add - Can anyone get the tail number off the original video?

I have the original, and there are no numbers on the tail. There is some writing on the body, but even in the video, it's not readable.

Shrinking the pics didn't help either, but the orignals are still not readable.

It looks like a V, but...it's kinda wide at the base for a V.... Maybe the V is a W. Definitely A...could the letter after the V/W be an I?

"A_ _ W_ _ _"

AirWing?

AviWing?

AirWind?

I have no idea.

As far as I know, the man who owns all the fancy planes at Byron airport was celebrating a birthday yesterday, and some friends "dropped in".
Derrick is our pilot by the way....
Deuce might have some insight?

OK. I've run a histogrammic analysis using the same image enhancement software that they use in "CSI : Miami", and I also ran it through a photo-spectroscopic filter. Result attached and you can now clearly read it.
