Why is the flag fying at half mast?

I've observed our flag flying at half mast over the last couploe of days but I don't know why or have yet to find the answer.

Just thought the answer would be faster from dz.com than google.

My other ride is the relative wind.

BTW, half mast is on ships and naval installations.
Half staff is what the rest of the world does.

How many US citizens died in the tsunami? The UK lost over 400... and that figure is predicted to rise.

At present it looks like Finland lost over 2000!

That seems like a good enough reason to me to fly our nation’s flag at half-mast, irrespective of how many other nationalities died.
