MikeFB2764 0 #1 April 21, 2005 I came across this photo (which is a nice shot, BTW) on the SDC website. http://skydivechicago.com/gallery/weekend_4_16/tube_deploy_2 In my opinion this seems "less" than safe. What do you think?
kelel01 1 #2 April 21, 2005 The tube, or the gas mask? If you're referring to the tube, somebody has to deploy with it. I wouldn't want it to be me , but I've seen it done (on video) many, many times.
MikeFB2764 0 #3 April 21, 2005 Sorry. Yes, the tube, but I guess there could be concerns (though less) about the gas mask.

PhreeZone 15 #7 April 21, 2005 I've got plenty of jumps with a tube and deployment like that. No issues as long as the PC does'nt go up the tube. I don't see anything wrong with it.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
MikeFB2764 0 #8 April 21, 2005 Have there been any incidents where the tube has interfered with the PC?
DJL 232 #9 April 21, 2005 Looks fine to me. Anyone EVER had a mal caused by interference with a tube? I've seen a tube pass between the lines of a canopy on opening with hardly any ill effect."I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

inzite 0 #14 April 21, 2005 Oh my God!!! There are no traction pads in that bathtub. An accident waiting to happen. Seriously though, I'd be curious to find out if the same statistical adage applies to skydivers, that you're more likely to be injured in the bathroom. Considering our addiction, I don't know where you'd be more likely to be injured - in the bathroom or at the DZ (or possibly at the bar after the DZ). PhreeZone 15 #17 April 21, 2005 Well, thats only partially true. Had he tossed the tube and did his EP's he'd probally be here today but since he was unwilling to toss the tube he could'nt help his situation.Yesterday is history And tomorrow is a mystery Parachutemanuals.com
Kris 0 #18 April 21, 2005 QuoteWFFC a few years ago, tube cause a death Yeah, but that was because the guy didn't let go of the damn thing and do his EP's properly. I know the person that supplied him the tube to demo. Tubes are relatively safe as long as they're taller than the canopy during deployment (less chance for an entanglement) and as long as you're willing to get rid of it when the shit hits the fan. The guy that went in at Quincy was seen on video transferring the tube from hand to hand so as not to lose it while trying to figure out his EP's.Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™

flyingferret 0 #20 April 21, 2005 Yeah, what he said, search the freefly forum. There is no issue deploying with a tube if you know what you are doing. And generally longer is better, it just bounces off you canopy deploying. I have a handful of jumps with no issue. That being said....gas mask, smoke, and tube on one jump. That is a lot of variable, cumulatively, I would not add all those factors into one.-- All the flaming and trolls of wreck dot with a pretty GUI.
