PalmettoTiger 1 #26 March 15, 2002 Hasn't this come up before? I've heard the rules as "friendship, kinship, or professional association." Using that...I have Paul Tibbets - pilot of the Enola Gay, the plane that dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima - in 4 degrees (me -> my Aunt Madeleine -> her adopted nephew -> his wife, who is the granddaughter of -> Paul Tibbets), so I probably have some more prominent military connections in 6 degrees.I have Ron Jeremy in 3 degrees (me -> a friend -> his wife, who used to be in pr0n and 'worked' with -> Ron Jeremy), which means I probably have the whole porn industry in 6 degrees.I have Ted Kaczynski - a.k.a. The Unabomber - in 3 degrees (me -> my neighbor David Bruck, a death-penalty defense lawyer -> his co-counsel in the Susan Smith case, who later represented -> The Unabomer), which doesn't really get me anywhere since there aren't many people in rural Montana. Finally, I have JFK in 2 degrees (me -> the late Frank Sloan, who was the 1960 South Carolina campaign manager for -> JFK), which means I probably have all kinds of WWII, Harvard, mob, and political connections in 6 degrees.Given that I can reach such diverse people as Ron Jeremy (and all of porn), Ted Kaczynski, JFK, and Paul Tibbets without having to try very hard, I'd bet that knowing 99% of the country within 6 degrees would be easy for anyone. Getting to 99% of the world would probably require two or three more degees, since we have so few international connections compared to the number of fellow countrymen we've met or worked with.PTigerI'm stepping through the doorAnd I'm floating in a most peculiar way

ChromeBoy 0 #34 March 15, 2002 Clay is actually a very shy, innocent and good valued person. When I was at Skydive Atlanta with him the women were throwing their panties at him and whistling and asking him to give them certain pleasures and he just expressed that he was not that type of guy and that he had to get to know someone first before he would even ask them out on a date. His general rule of thumb is possibly a good night kiss on the first date but that is it.Flying in a Blue Dream

dixieskydiver 0 #40 November 23, 2005 3 years later I ressurect this thread because I found this cool project being conducted by Columbia University. http://smallworld.columbia.edu I have a "target" in the Philippines and I registered to be a target as well. NWFlyer 2 #41 November 23, 2005 It is pretty cool, and I got a target at Columbia University (not surprising, I guess, since the study is based there). I have a friend who's a PhD student at Columbia, so it will probably be pretty easy for me to find my target. I started to register as a target myself, but realized that I was providing an AWFUL lot of very personal information that could then be accessed by anyone who decides to join in this experiment. It's not that I don't trust the researchers; I think it's a cool project and they are probably doing all they can to protect peoples' data, but what's to stop me (or anyone else) from adding a whole bunch of targets ... and now having access to their full name, residence, education, and employment history. All of which is lovely and useful stuff for anyone trying to engage in identity theft. No, thanks."There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please.
