BlindBrick 0 #1 February 13, 2006 Ok, a little background here: I've been dating a wonderful young woman for about a month now. Wasn't sure if we were very serious or not so I had just planned to get roses for Tuesday. Well, over the past week, it's become clear that we are becoming more serious. Today, it came out that this past week she spent several hours researching skydiving so she could get me a relevant gift for Tuesday. So obviously, something more than flowers is in order. Fortunately I had a bit of inspiration. This weekend she got me a gift that was a set of 52 cards that have romantic ideas on them. She doesn't know it, but the one I drew this week says to give her a romantic moonlit picnic. It's too cold here to do that so I need to fudge a bit, and this is what I was thinking: What I bascially want to do is turn my living room into a moonlit glade. So i thought I'd find a large piece of the green turf carpet to serve as the grass. I'd then totally ring this with plants and artifical trees to create the "glade" effect. For stars, I have a lot of those white christmas lights that I could wind through the branches of the trees. And for ambience, I have a noise generator that can do a "babbling brook", and I'd use rose petals and tea lights to mark a path from my front door to the glade. Once in the glade, she'd find a picnic blanket with wine and cheese for two. Following that would be a meal I prepared with ingredients purchased from her favorite organic food store. This idea is something I've thrown together in just a few hours, so i need to know if it's stupid or might work. also, if there's anything I'm overlooking, I'd appreciate a heads up. thanks, -Blind"If you end up in an alligator's jaws, naked, you probably did something to deserve it." Beverly 1 #2 February 13, 2006 ooo, that is really cool. Not too much grass, rather a nice blanket for a picnic. Awesome - hope she loves it! I think true friendship is under-rated Twitter: @Dreamskygirlsa
flygirl1 0 #3 February 13, 2006 Thats a really cool idea. I think she's going to love it and especially appreciate all the effort you put in to it.Fly like a girl
VanillaSkyGirl 6 #4 February 13, 2006 I love it! It's very romantic. Be sure to have a soft and full blanket or even a sleeping bag/comforter nearby for her to lay upon, in case you two end up making love and falling asleep on the "grass", under the stars. GQ_jumper 4 #6 February 13, 2006 Whether your girl likes it or not she should be impressed with the thought and effort you put into it, any girl would swoon over how much work went into something like that, and if not then she doesn't appreciate you and should get kicked to the curb. just an opinion! Seemed kind of silly at the time, but yeah it kinda works! Walt

skymama 35 #11 February 13, 2006 That's definitely one of the thoughtful gestures that will make her tell all her friends about it the next day. Do it and let us know if she was impressed! She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon

altichick 1 #13 February 13, 2006 Personally I'd run a mile if a guy did something like that!! If I really liked him I'd appreciate the effort... then run a mile But she bought you the cards with the mushy ideas on them so chances are she digs that stuff! so go for it!! A few improvements on your plan... to further add to the outdoor picnic illusion don't forget to scatter a selection of wasps and bugs around the room, put sharp rocks under the picnic blanket and invite frineds to dress as hikers and have them walk through the room at random intervals Don't sweat the petty things... and don't pet the sweaty things! I saw in Wal-Mart that they have boxes of silk rose petals for only $1.76. Look in their Valentine display for them. It'll save you time and money to buy the silk ones and I bet she won't notice the difference. She is Da Man, and you better not mess with Da Man, because she will lay some keepdown on you faster than, well, really fast. ~Billvon

Don't get me wrong the thought and effort would be great but.....all that grass and wildlife in your living room? If things should get a bit steamy and you both start rolling around you would be in threat of being attacked by 3 foot shrubs in the throws of passion. I would be horrified if I ended up smooching with a baby fir tree. Less is more and if you really want to impress her I would go for the old fashion civilised sit down meal (ofcourse cooked by yourself) with candles, insense and some real sexy music in the background. And make sure you smell real good. Leave the outdoor stuff just for that.....the outdoors. Finally....she sounds like a real lucky lady.
