How far do you travel to jump?

Recommended Posts

My husband and I travel 3 hours or more every weekend to jump. This weekend we're travelling 5 1/2 hours.

There's actually a dropzone about 20 minutes from our place, but we choose to drive. I guess that says a lot about that dropzone, huh?

I've got one 45 minutes, one just over an hour, and one just over two hours away (and one more that's not far as the crow flies, but is just under 2 hours if you include the 1 hour ferry ride, travel time there can vary considerably based on ferry schedules and waits). There's a few more within about 3 to 3 1/2 hours.

Of course, I jump whereever I happen to be working, so I've been known to fly cross-country to jump on the East Coast. :D

And we are sooo happy that you do choose to drive!!!
Atl has 3 DZ's that are all about the same distance from me. But its not too bad.

it is 102 miles from my house to my preferred dropzone. i pass two others on my way, and there is probably a third which is significantly closer to me. i tried to start jumping at one very close to me, but it just didn't feel right.

and they are all okay, i guess - but none of the others have shiner on tap, todd singing songs in the plane, or aggiedave keeping an eye out for all of us. :P
life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all.

Our preferred DZ is just over 2 1/2 hours away. We keep our camper there, so it is comfortable and easy(er) to justify the drive every other weekend. For a quick fix on off weekends or when the weather isn't real favorable in NC we have a DZ 4 minutes away that frequently flies jumprun over our house..

WELL... I could travel less than 30 miles to Salado, BUT, I choose to travel about 110 miles to Skydive Aggieland in Bryan. Now, I haven't jumped in almost a year, so I'm not really travelling to jump anymore. [:/]

I curently drive 70 miles to jump at Tecumseh in Michigan.

Starting next week, I will be moving three hours north of Mexico City and will have a 4 hour drive to the closest DZ, at least during winter months. I am still trying to sort out jumping in the summer. I may be flying up to Houston every once in a while to jump at Spaceland.

I used to drive 5 hours one way to skydive, with a good number of DZ's closer.
but for me it was all about the people and what I was looking for in a DZ.
Not its only about 1.5 hours. :)

I consider myself to have two "home" dropzones. One is less than 2 miles from my house, the other is a little over 125 miles. I make the long drive pretty much every weekend during their 6 month season, but do my mid-week and off-season jumping close to home.

myself and my partner are in sweden jumping and we are from new zealand! that is almost as far as it is possible to go for jumping?? and now i am doing some tandems in Oslo on a saturday and fly back to stockholm each sunday to do another weeks traing at Gryttjom. Which by the way is a fucking awesome dropzone with an AN 28 and a twin otter running all week.

cheap jump tickets too and a really friendly vibe!! there is no 'I'm too cool for you' types here! everyone helps out and there is the largest skydive sauna in europe(possibly the world) and it is mixed gender and naked!!!! feels a bit awkward at first but nobody gives a shit!

I love it here!!!! worth the 32 hours of travelling!

A 7 minute drive door to door

I haven't got the money to jump so I sunbath in the garden with a cold one and watch the lifts clime directly over me.

If I'm on the roof terrace I can see the opening point, there's a hill in front of the DZ so can't see them land.

Good BEER helps me being too jealous when I can't jump. [:/]
