Who earned your business today?

Recommended Posts

For me it was Taco Bell. They did their jobs.

After walking into a StarShmucks and having 4, that's right 4 employees behind the counter make eye contact with me, but say nothing nor even smile, I was finaly served.

Won't be making the visit to StarShmucks again. Anywhere.

Same thing happened at Carl's Jr., more than once in the last couple weeks, so yesterday I walked out.

I'm not putting up with service like this anymore. I don't ask for anything other than what I am paying for.

Fed up with businesse treating me like they don't need me there.

Anyone else?

A long time ago when I was living on nothing but cash (no credit cards, no atm card) my girlfriend's car broke down about 30 minutes from me on a Sunday when I had no cash and no gas in my jeep. So I rummaged around and found $5 in quarters. I rolled em up and went to the gas station. I went to hand the attendant the roll and he just looks at me and says,"we have enough of those already." " You have enough of what", I asked. "Quarter rolls."

Rather than argue with the guy I just turned around and walked out. To this day I haven't returned to that gas station (nor have any of my friends) which is one of four in a little town I visit once per month.

No one earned my business today... The grocery store provided me with the food I ate for lunch, but I bought that stuff on Sunday... The liquor store earned my business yesterday, but I think the manager is cooler than Christmas, so if I ever need cigs or booze, I'll definitely be going there...

But, no, no one earned my business as of yet today.

I have one of both (good and bad):

Sprint actually did something almost right for once and I went into the store and got information without feeling the need to assault anybody. (I consider that pretty good for a cell phone provider.)

On the other hand, I bought a $20 stapler this morning and the guy at the register tried to sell me a $3.00 replacement program for my STAPLER, just in case anything goes wrong in the next two years. Could a stapler fail within two years? Yes. Would I keep my paperwork for two years on the off chance that I had to replace it??? No way, no how, nuh-uh. :S

Funny stuff!
I am a sales manager for a large hotel chain, it is amazing how the little things that don't cost money make the biggest difference in a guest's stay. Most of the stuff that makes the expensive hotels so expensive is the service, the intangibles. We are required to say hello and greet any guest we make eye contact with, and suggest assistance to any that appear lost or confused. Note taken you guys even notice a failure in attitude in taco bell, we MUST be under a microscope here!
Next time you are at a hotel, take note of how many times someone escorts you to a location on property you ask to go. It is a great policy, makes the difference!
So there I was...

Making friends and playing nice since 1983

I just stayed at a new (to me) Hotel chain on my last trip home. NH Hotels. If the rest of them have as friendly and helpful a staff as the one in Vienna I'll use them every time. When I traveled extensively for work in the states I was a "Hilton Guy." Just because I liked their rewards program and they seemed to almost always have a decent hotel near the Airports I flew into. However.........I had some AWFUL experiences in Baltimore, Chicago, and Philly to name a few. :S You are completely right though. Something like walking the customer where they want to go makes them feel like someone gives a shit. Plus..........if you create that environment of customer care with little basic things it's bound to bleed over in the day to day actions of your employees.

Um... I go to bed?

I should make my lunch for tomorrow since I will no longer be able to go home for lunch, but... Fuck it... I'm going to bed. B|

Don't get mad... Get even. I've had very similar things happen at other establishments and I typically contact the management and they send certificates for free food.:) Don't pass up free food.

I hear what you're saying, but I don't want free food.

I want to be treated like a customer, not a burden.

I used to be in that business 10 years ago. It ain't hard.:)

My primary goal is NOT to get free food. I just want to be treated like I should be too. And I've actually taken the time to write letters of praise and speak with restaurant managers when I've received very good service.

The way I look at it is this... If the employees are slacking off and don't give a shit, it is probably, at least in part, due to the case that the owner doesn't know what's going on. So, I'm happy to take free food as compensation for both having to deal with asshats AND spending the time to let them know what's going on in their store.

It may seem like too much work to bother, but if you consider that it takes only 5 minutes of your time to complain and you're going to be compensated around $10 for those 5 minutes, it's actually a very good deal. Especially considering that the employees will hopefully be on top for their game the next time you visit.

The process is pretty anonymous too, so there's really not any risk of having your foods tampered with. Then again, I think I might be a tad more patient than you...:D:|
