Everest Skydive

Recommended Posts

I finally decided to click on the link that keeps popping up.
What is the deal here? That is one expensive skydive. I noticed it mentions the price includes landing only, not the trip out, or a stay at the LZ.

I wonder how much the trip out will cost?

Thanks for the link! Very cool.

It looks like the landing dz is either the Shyangboche airstrip (3810m), just above Nache Bazaar, or a smaller area closer to the Everest View Hotel. There aren't a lot of _flat areas_ around there :)
When I was there in spring 2003 w/a couple other skydivers, including one who summitted, we joked about skydiving into the world's highest LZ.

Neat that someone's making that option possible.

Mont Blanc is higher(4808m) The PD team, and teams before them, jumped near the summit.
The claim of the Everest team of being the Highest LZ seems incorrect.

Mont Blanc is 4808 meters, but the LZ at Mont Blanc would probably be lower than 3810 meters, no? So concering LZ's, the one in the Himalaya's would still be higher, right? Unless the PD team and others before them actually landed on the summit of Mont Blanc. (I doubt that the PD team landed on/near the summit with swoop-like high performance canopy's)

Jim Slaton, JC Colclasure, & the other PD teams members swooping Mount Blanc (been there too:ph34r: ... on crampons;)), Eiger, & the Dolomites takes a lot more skill! They landed above the snow line - don't know what the MSL was.

Everest has been para-ski'd and para-glide'd too. (And it's higher - 8848m :)

It was my understanding that they landed at the summit, but I could be wrong.

I only saw the PD team swoop the mountain in a video clip, so I also don't know if they effectively landed on the summit, but if they did, then that is one hell of an achievement! :)

http://www.uspa.org/publications/manuals.pdf/SIM2007.pdf

Read the section on high altitude jumps.

The Cliffs Notes version: terminal velocity is higher in thinner air.

so if you had a 190 at a 1:1 wingloading what would you need at that altitude to have an equilevelent landing as sealevel ?

Actually, you should talk to "Dr. Bob," who is also from Breck and is usually up for something fun and exciting. I'll bet you could get some serious interest out of him. You can find him at MileHi on most weekends and quite often on Thursdays or Fridays.
