I'm so glad I just spent about €3000 to fly half-way across the world and be treated like shit for an entire week.

On the plus side, I had my very first conversation with my brother... Not that it went so well, but I figure perhaps in another mere 33 years we might have a second conversation and he might then begin to see me as a human being...

I'm so sorry to hear this. I don't know why family thinks they can treat us like dirt or talk to us like dirt when we see them talk to friends or even strangers with kindness and respect. Sometimes considering yourself orphaned is less painful.

(unless of course they come from a family of skydivers, which is rare).

Ahh Nataly I would really like to answer to tell you that time heals every thing
but in reality it doesn't. I haven't spoken to my family in over twenty years
I moved on and really I am better for it.

That is just my circumstances and realize that every one is different
but my children and friend are more important to me than my family will ever be.

I went 17 years without speaking to my dysfunctional family. Like you, I spent most of my adult life living overseas. It makes it easier!

But, sometimes time doesn't heal.
