  1. with the thumb screws are you threading it up from the top of your helmet? that would mean drilling a hole through the bottom of the d-box right? _______________ "It seemed like a good idea at the time"
  2. well, basically i wrapped my cam in saran wrap, put gaffers tape on the inside of the hinges so no foam could gum up the works, placed the cam in and closed it up using the cable. I then sprayed some minimal expansion foam in everywhere i could stick the tube (i think it was liquid nails brand) about 8-9 hours later i pried open the d box and wrenched my camera free. what i found was that most of the foam expanded out the back and front. very little was in the d-box itself. i am pretty sure i squirted the foam where it needed to go. perhaps squirting it in the bottom half then closing the box? i also think wax paper would be better to put the cam in as the plastic saran wrap sticks to the cured foam. I might try it again, what the hell i've already got a friggen mess going. it just bothers me i wasnt smart enough to realize my cam wasnt going to fit in there like they did in the old style boxes. i spent a lot of money to basically end up with somthing i could of made myself out of fiberglass. I just figured i couldnt get as close a tolerance to my cam as bonehead could. thats what i was paying the big bucks for. their research and development. turns out i can get closer to fitting my cam than their new box. theirs just looks cooler I also dont like the way i cant reach my on/off button. i guess i can either cut a slot so i can get my finger in (but the hinge is in the way) or i can use my cam eye to turn it on and off. i've only used my cam eye for the lights and to start/stop recording. _______________ "It seemed like a good idea at the time"
  3. well, i was right about the great foam idea........ it's a friggen mess. It did'nt do anything i wanted it it to do. now i have to clean it all out... sigh. I dont want to put a screw in to hold the camera. that defeats 60% of the reason i bought a d-box. one thing i have noticed with the top foam and my trv11 is that it pushes my zoom button. i think trimming the foam in that area will take care of that. perhaps using some sort of bondo like putty in just the bottom and setting my cam in till it hardens (wrapped of course) will make a solid template so i can set the cam in the same way every time. add some foam here and there for stability and i should be good to go. Again, do not use great foam. it doesnt work. _______________ "It seemed like a good idea at the time"
  4. After flying camera for 4 years i finally broke down and bought a bonehead d-box. I am a little dissapointed in the fit of the new style. I did want a piano hinge but didnt realize that the new ones are also a one-size-fits-nothing type box. anyways i was thinking of wrapping my cam in saran wrap, placing it in the box then shooting some minimal expansion great foam in there but i am a little leary of that. if it doesnt work it's a friggin mess. _______________ "It seemed like a good idea at the time"
  5. I have a good deal of respect for Quade as a camera person, although I have never met him. There are other more experianced camera persons than me on this board, However.... I have to disagree with the "break even" thing. It hase been my experiance, running camera for 4-5 years now that camera people do allright. now I have added a tandem rating to my "skills" and I do pretty damn good as a weekend warrior. Fact is, I make more money at the dz than I do at my job (on a daily basis not hourly) Now my wife is flying camera and it is not unusual for us to bring home 5-600$ for a decent weekend. I dont stick a lot of money into my gear. I dont have the latest and greatest digital vid or digital cam. I use my trusty old trv 11 and canon rebel. I use a protec for a camera helmet (OH MY GOD!) The protec with its smaller than i normally would use lining fits my head very tight and with the chin strap good and tight i have no camera shake. And i will put my video up with anyones in the "non-professional" class So my answer would be yes to making a living. I guess it depends on what you consider "marginal" I will admit that if i were "full-time" i would buy better equipment. It's not the gear, It's the skill. All above opinions are just that. After all I'm just an anonymous voice on the internet (and to lazy to use spell check) _______________ "It seemed like a good idea at the time"
  6. Thank You. _______________ "It seemed like a good idea at the time"
  7. pm not recieved _______________ "It seemed like a good idea at the time"
  8. I was wondering if anyone could give me the width of the platform on the flattop and if possible to send some detailed pics of the chin both inside and out. Thanks. _______________ "It seemed like a good idea at the time"
  9. Yeah, But do you have to know which dvd "type" the end user has? I dont recall vhs and beta taking this long to come up with the "official" format, why cant they decide on one dvd format? _______________ "It seemed like a good idea at the time"
  10. four arms, four legs, and a pilot chute in tow.... what could possibly go wrong? _______________ "It seemed like a good idea at the time"
  11. Thanks, I will do some more searching. As far as "funky" stuff goes, these are songs for students to pick for their vids. It's hard enough to get them to pick a song from a 30 selection list without adding stuff they are not familiar with. but I will check it out for my personal "greatest hits" video
  12. ok ok I know its been done to death. I am making some new cd's for use at the dz for vid music and thought i would do a search here for some different ideas. I did find some threads that had a link to a list but the link wont work.... any of them. this was a thread from over a year ago. can some one give a decent link to a thread that had a list or just send me the list or somthing? _______________ "It seemed like a good idea at the time"
  13. The thread seems focused on hypoxia, which is fine, but I think the auther is suffering from the adreneline crash. I know I crash hard and sleep on the way home. I usually do 8-10 jumps a day between tandem vids and tandem master and while it isnt that much physical work I am simply beat on my ass. _______________ "It seemed like a good idea at the time"
  14. I'm not grumbling. thats why I didnt want to go down the "why precision wouldnt give him the specs" road I don't care why, I just need a problem solved. and my problem is that my wife is difficult to live with if she doesn't have her "baby" in her container. Actually I found out what he (rigger) needs is wether that measurment is from the inside or outside or somthing like that. He is calling precision again. _______________ "It seemed like a good idea at the time"
  15. Thank you very much! _______________ "It seemed like a good idea at the time"
  16. It doesnt really matter why. I guess they want my wife to send it in. we arent going to do that and incur all the costs when it can handled very easily by our rigger. Her rigger called and they wont give them out. She needs 4 lines replaced due to excessive wear from the french links (getting slinks now) the rigger wants to re-trim the canopy for her but needs the specs. _______________ "It seemed like a good idea at the time"
  17. does anyone have the line specs fo a batwing 116? I need to know the factory specs for each line. Precision will not give them out. _______________ "It seemed like a good idea at the time"
  18. Just wondering what other dz's are paying for tandem vids and while im at it how much for tandems? _______________ "It seemed like a good idea at the time"
  19. Will you adopt me please? I still like the trv 11 _______________ "It seemed like a good idea at the time"
  20. My doc suggested it was just a little liquid that gets sucked into the middle ear during the way up. she suggested rubbing alcahol on a q-tip to dry ear before jumping. I never tried it. seemed impractical. I eat sinutab non-drowsy non drying pills all weekend. _______________ "It seemed like a good idea at the time"
  21. I wear gloves over my loops. I have the length of the swoop cord set so that I can reach up to full arm extension and take care of anything I have to. It still provides me with enough wing tension to be able to stay with a 150 pd t/m and a 145 pd student with that big ol strong drouge trailing behind them. I weigh 210 and have a camera suit the i cant hardly zip up its so tight. ( aint nobody gonna get away from me either!) _______________ "It seemed like a good idea at the time"
  22. Tried to do this through e-mail but it keeps coming back. We ( Sue and I) would like to be a part of this, seems like a great place to hang out when not jumping and an evening beer or 4. We have 0 cash to pitch in. we work at skydiving to help pay the bills and pay for wffc trip. can we hang out there? huh? can we? can we? I will video anyones jumps for a ticket and take stills. rw jumps that is. spend way to much time on working jumps to have learned to free fly. have to come up with a method of getting stills to the people who want them cuz I would like to keep the negatives _______________ "It seemed like a good idea at the time"
  23. A complete list of my skidiving injuries is as follows: 1. Walking from the car to the bonfire (drunk) and fell in a hole twisting my ankle. 2. the next weekend I fell out of a tree (drunk) and twisted the same ankle, 3 years later and its never fully recovered. 3. got a blister once from packing. _______________ "It seemed like a good idea at the time"
  24. It may be a great life for you but I think it would suck for the kids. What about school? You cant yank them out and put em in a new school every couple months. they need some stability. Imagine the teasing. It would be worse than a "trailer park kid" My wife and I have 4 boys. 2 just out of school and 2 more to go. We have all the ratings we need to make a living at this and have made calls and came to the point of actually making that final decision. We decided to wait until we are "empty nesters" (thank god we had our kids really young!) Although the one 14 year old does kinda take a shining to moving to s. cal. after I explained the whole beach thing! _______________ "It seemed like a good idea at the time"
  25. Hmmmm, Seeing as how 95% of my video is tandem vids I would think not getting a good "up angle" would be a very serious problem. _______________ "It seemed like a good idea at the time"
