  1. Getting guns under control in the US is not something I'm optimistic about. But one thing I'm certain of is that we'd have a much better chance at it if the debates would ignore the impossible. People who want things like all guns to go away, or all gun owners to be tested for mental problems obviously have no idea how prevalent guns and gun owners are. So, what is your suggestion? "But one thing I'm certain of is that we'd have a much better chance at it if the debates would ignore the impossible."

  3. I have to wonder, was this guy evil and smart enough to target children so that people who could have been running away or rushing him were concentrating on helping their family. I know there were several children shot but not in what order.
  4. They will rationalize the cheating bitch because it's not about her, it's about the party. Eventually they will throw her under the bus because she is irrelevant to there in goals Throw her under the bus for what, exactly? I agree, what she and the DNC did is completely unethical, but at the moment it doesn't look like they broke any rules, unfortunately. She didn't cheat because she didn't break the rules. That's not the same as playing fair though. And to be honest, who cares about throwing her under the bus at this point in time apart from you extreme right wing folks? Like you said - she's completely irrelevant now. I'd much rather effort was put into current issues. The fact that you use the term 'bitch' to describe her shows how emotional you are about it (and hence how you are probably unable to make a rational argument). Maybe you should do what I've done - move on from Hillary. Just take a breath and let it go. She didn't win, she'll never hold another position of power. There are more important things to get angry over. Edit: If it turns out that she did break some rules, then I'm all for throwing the book at her without mercy. An example should be set IF she broke the rules. I can imagine some new rules being established to prevent this from happening again. Like you cannot take control of the DNC UNTIL you officially win the nomination. Anyway, my wife voted for Hillary, but now she wishes Hillary would just shut the fuck up and go away. She's the one trying to be relevant and stick around. Tell your wife she is right on the money. Hillary's reputation lost the election. It should have been a slam dunk, a world series grand slam, a Stanley cup hat-trick, a ... I'm convinced that if Clinton had had a stroke at the last second and a panicked DNC somehow nominated an unknown used car salesman from Asheville Kentucky we'd have a Democrat President right now.
  5. This is from an ABC report on it. Unfortunately the book isn't out yet but the following does jive with what Brazile herself is saying. This seems like yet another case of reporters replacing something they can't make a stink about with something that they can, and just ignoring reality. "Brazile writes that she considered several potential replacements for Clinton and Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Va., the vice presidential nominee, and concluded Biden and Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J., would be the strongest combination to beat Donald Trump in November. Brazile, who was abruptly brought on to replace former DNC chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz during the party’s convention last summer, did not have the power to unilaterally remove Clinton and Kaine. ut DNC rules give the party's chairman the authority to set the ball in motion. "In the event of death, resignation or disability of a nominee of the Party for President or Vice President after the adjournment of the National Convention, the National Chairperson of the Democratic National Committee shall confer with the Democratic leadership of the United States Congress and the Democratic Governors Association and shall report to the Democratic National Committee, which is authorized to fill the vacancy or vacancies," the party's Convention Call states. Furthermore, the DNC bylaws state the chair is the one to call "a special meeting to fill a vacancy on the National ticket."
  6. I really like Softorino Youtube Converter, which is great. It's about $10 but more than worth it. I've only used it on Macs but it's available for Windows too. You open the program. Then go to youtube and when you've loaded a video you want you copy the address. That sends it to SYC. Clicking download on SYC puts it in your download folder. And it's fast, much faster than actually watching the video on youtube. https://softorino.com/store/syc/
  7. I never jump without one. I have one on my rig, but my "go to" is a Jack-the-Ripper in a pocket on my jumpsuit thigh for easy, fast access. I also recommend them to every jumper I work with. If you don't have a hook knife when you need one, you will likely never need one again. When CReW started I started wearing at least two. One high, the chest strap, in case I got wrapped low and one low, my knee pocket in case a wrap pinned my arms down. Then we started trying to build diamonds and I started attaching a third to my shoe. I still wear the two, and three on those rare occasions I get to do CReW.
  8. It is common to jump without a hook knife these days?
  9. I have some hard hat liners left over from my line crew days. They're butt ugly but do a great job. As for your hands I'd advise not putting your gloves on until jump run. Until then leave the gloves off and close and open your hands a lot for circulation. You don't want them to get sweaty in the relative warmth of the plane. Canopy time is worst since your hands are up, impeding blood flow and the wind is blowing through your fingers. If you can do so safely (small loads) get your canopy flying the direction you want then hold your hands behind your back. Now the blood flows better and they're out of the wind. Bring them out to adjust whenever necessary. When it's seriously cold out but I just have to jump I always end up making two jumps. The first one really hurts, but afterwards I figure that now I'm acclimated. But then the second jump hurts just as much so I go home and get into a tub of very hot water and listen to my bones crackle as they shift back into place.
  10. You don't know what bastion means, do you? Hint, it's nowhere near synonymous with haven.
  11. That's just desperate. It's getting way too weird for me.
  12. There would be exceptions. Anyone who can somehow prove that they've never said "can't they do ANYTHING to stop the gun violence would be issued a pass." But seriously, how difficult would it be to develop a wand that could detect a firearm that someone has concealed under their clothes? Between the metal (I know, but most of them) and the traces of gun powder, even gun oil, would it be practical to make such a device? Something that takes the frisk out of stop and frisk unless the wand returns a positive on you, preferably with very few false positives.
  13. There's been one law so far that seemed to really make a difference about gun crime. Stop and Frisk.
  14. Weinstein was in a unique position that allowed him to get away with this for so long. A big part of his job was deciding that a young woman wasn't right for the part and eliminate her from the running. His company might spend hundreds of millions to make a movie so there was no room for sentimentality. If he felt someone was wrong he had to say so no matter how much it would hurt them or their career. So it was normal for there to be young women upset with him about their careers. That, I think, is a big part of how he got away with it for so long. Not the only one of course but on the other hand, if his job was to manage payroll or something people would notice when he started to cause young women to lose their role.
  15. Spurgeon just now emailed this to me. It would be from Ravenswood Wv, mid-80s. Man, we had some serious fun with this thing.
  16. It wasn't that long ago when most people realized that politicians were a bunch of suit (and pant suit) wearing crooks that you had to watch every moment and you would't buy a used car from. But then people got tired so now they pretend that one side is "The Party of the People" so now as long as you vote the correct side you've done your part.
  17. Neil Drain used to have some sort of hockey helmet that looked like it was made from exactly the same material as those foam egg cartons. Same thickness, everything. He used to hold it up and say "You just can't get better protection for seven dollars." He was also one of the first of us to get a canopy with an instruction manual and warranty. Up until then we all had used junk and surplus stuff. He read the warranty for his Strato Cloud and said "according to this, I could cut this canopy into 12" squares and they don't guarantee I could wipe my ass with it."
  18. B12 snaps are great for fat old men trying to put on their rig and never known on to fail. Protec ade more protective than any of the carbon fibsr audible holders. And cheap. Frap hats are fun and hold audiles better. I thing the biggest problem with Pro Tecs is that they don't cost $400.
  19. Next we'll start hearing the inevitable "if they'd just bury the cable we wouldn't have problems." Except of course from anyone who's ever helped maintain buried plant. But as long as we don't have it people can think it's the answer.
  20. I haven't been following it, and it wouldn't have affected us. It does remind me of when I first started at the Art School and we were still having trouble getting palladium for some of the non-silver processes due to people still flogging the Cold Fusion horse.
  21. Which is exactly the way a tyrant would think rather than the President of the US should. That was my point. I was sarcastically answering the question of why he seemed to care more about Texas and Florida.
  22. A ride back to the DZ that was almost as memorable as the 727 jump we'd just made.
  23. I left the phone company and worked at OU's School of Art (long story) for 20 years. One advantage was always knowing the staff when we went out to eat.
