  1. When you spend money at a DZ owned by a UAE prince, you are. I'm just making the general point that there are plenty of places you can jump without having a moral dilemma.
  2. You wouldn't move to the UAE because of human rights but you'd support them with your dollars by going to a DZ owned by them? or did you mean your human rights lol
  3. Why Dubai? There are plenty of countries that would give you the same opportunity that don't have the same human rights baggage and risk that being in the UAE brings
  4. ^ this. all day. If you go in with expectations you will be disapointed. Everyone learns at different rates. Count on hitting a wall and being "stuck" while other people don't. Count on having a shitty session and then when you step away and come back you absolutely rock it like it's no thing. These things are hard to predict. So just put in your time, and take each session individually, and you'll get there. Edited to add: this is not to say you shouldn't go in with GOALS. Goals are imperative at the macro and micro level. You should have high level goals you are aiming for (ex: fly efficiently, fly sit at 73%; take docks). You should have low level goals (first flight: work on back to sit transition; second flight: work on turns left AND right). If you are just in there with no agenda you're wasting time. But the key is don't go in saying "By the end of this session I will be sit flying at 73% taking docks and I won't be tired because I'll fly efficiently and not fight the wind." Good luck with that
  5. You know what you want. You know what kind of rig you want, what kind of main you want, etc. etc. Look it up on the classifieds and call Chutingstar to get a quote on what you want and compare. This is such a general question, the only answer is it depends. Or both. The answer is both. It's both cheaper to by a complete system and cheaper to buy components. Just depends on which system and which components. In your research, what have you seen thus far? If you really want a helpful answer, list out the gear you are interested in, and what prices you have found. Others might give you some advice for finding the same thing cheaper.
  6. you're just now working on that? that's the shit I've working on here and there for my last 100 jumps on my sabre 2 170. How good a pilot can you possibly be if you didn't know you could do something on your canopy that I can do on my circus tent? let me guess, you know the konami cheat code but think you're good at contra, too.
  7. Do you have the habit of gassing the plane? If so, people might be happy to see you leave at 3k so the cabin can air out
  8. Thanks both of you for the tips!
  9. I met a pretty cool lady from Idaho who does amazing tie dye work and I was thinking it would be cool to have her do a jumpsuit for me to use on special occasions. I've got a "union suit" from here that is like an adult sized head to toe thermal underwear. Complete with the flap in the ass. Problem is it is thin so the wind will tear it up plus buttons from chest to crotch sucks (if enough pop open you have cool tie dye covers over your handles! Sweet!) Thing is most jump suits are synthetic material that probably won't die well. Anyone out there have suggestions for material or even actual jump suits that would take to dye well?
  10. Makes sense -- thanks for sharing some knowledge, I appreciate it!
  11. What kind of pack job would you do for a square in a diaper? I'm assuming you don't s-fold it?
  12. Is this how BASE rigs are packed?
  13. That PDF is a great explanation. I laughed right off the bat: Reading through that it easy to see the evolution that led to the deployment bag. What is it about the deployment bag that makes it "better" than a full stow diaper? Is it that the diaper is harder to pack? Performs worse at terminal openings?
  14. Is the flap part of the canopy? I'm trying to envision how it is different than a deployment bag or a free bag? For example I found this via google search: http://www.fs.fed.us/t-d/pubs/htmlpubs/htm08572835/page03.htm Is the white material in this image the diaper? What happens to it after it is pulled out of the bag during deployment? [inline fig26.jpg]
  15. This is a general reply, but I'm pretty interested in learning more about what a "diapered" square main deployment would look like but I don't want to hijack this thread about TSO issues so I started a new thread over in gear and rigging: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=4464283;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread Peace!
  16. In this thread: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=4463200;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread There was a discussion about diapered mains, which is not something I am familiar with. I'm really interested by the discussion about deployment and how the shape of the container, what/how the parachute is "in" something, and the pilot chute affect openings. I'd like to understand this better, particularly the "diaper" approach. I'm assuming it's an alternative to a deployment bag? Rather than having a learning opportunity mixed up/lost in a flame bait thread, I thought I'd start a nice new friendly and objective thread and kindly ask if anyone with more history and knowledge than me can educate me on this. If someone even wanted to geek out and just give me an explanation about the evolution of deployment systems that'd be rad, too.
  17. Also didn't the Vector V3 magnets have a habit of opening during FF until they got stronger magnets? http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=3400192#3400192
  18. I was referring to this thread: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?do=post_view_flat;post=4287361;page=1;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;mh=-1;t=search_engine which has a link to a post on the RI site that has been deleted but google has a cached version available here: http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:http://rigginginnovations.com/Pages/Posts/ViewPost.aspx?ID=19 And in case that cached copy goes tits up here is the full text: Really it comes down to semantics and your definition of "works". The design met requirement 1 (functions properly every time) but failed requirement 2 (must be easy to use). Just my opinion but if your design isn't easy to use, then it doesn't work. whether a design works is answered by how it performs in the field not in theory, and it seems like the decision to go back to traditional tabs validates that. The third reason was aesthetics. So it was a combination of usability and aesthetics--the former really being the important one--not looks alone. Maybe after more design iterations the magnetic tabs will come back.
  19. True story a fellow jumper saw a craigs list add that looked funny and when I looked at it I recognized the jump suit, contacted the jumper to ask if she was selling her suit, and found out someone had stolen her gear bag a few weeks prior. Cops showed up and recovered her gear. So better to ask the question just to be safe
  20. Check your state and local laws before you get to the green bowl part. YMMV
  21. [inline 1226574599763.jpg] For those who like me hadn't seen the other thread, didn't know what the hell anyone was talking about, and had to hunt around for the pic.
  22. stupid easy. and if you can figure it out happy flaming ;)
