  1. I know 2 people that have jumped them, both 170's. I haven't jumped it. I heard it was a fully elliptical like a stiletto. The material is usually the South African ZP, which isin't slippery like normal ZP and easy to pack. I don't know how they handle or perform though..
  2. I would have to say that after reading about the rigs on the vector site they seem to be well made and appear to last the longest. That said I have also been told they are uncomfortable.. I think it depends on getting the right fit. I like how the V3's have several different options for how the laterals connect to the MLW / leg straps.
  3. I've asked the same question before but for a hot car.. if it is summertime there and 100 degrees outside I would definitely get it looked at / repacked. Up to you but 100 degrees outside could mean a lot more inside.
  4. Ahhh first time I'm so stoked about going. Have to buy a car and probably fix it first but hopefully I'll be there from the tues-wed till end I already got some tips from the Australians before I came back... at least I know where the good camping spots are and where the manifest / beer will be. A couple of the skydivers I met in Sydney knew people who were going or had been there before.
  5. I did my first solid sit last Sunday, very very happy. It was so weird because the jump before I was potato chipping between back and sit, but the one after I held it out the door and was great for the entire jump. Having a good coach helps a lot!

    Just Jump

  7. Thanks for the tip with the alti mount I am not a very experienced skydiver but it doesn't look as head down as any angles jumps Ive done.. angles is good to learn this though.
  8. Absolutely.. you can check it but it is not as easy as one may think. It's usually vibrating around a bit and quite hard to see the details. What I'm thinking about doing is just getting a chest mount alti which would be super easy to check. Also tracking palms up rolls your shoulders forward naturally unlike palms down. It also spaces your arms farther away from your body unlike palms down.
  9. I don't know what the restriction is in your country but in Australia it is something around that age.. 15 years. Why are you looking at something so old when you could get newer used gear at a decent price? I would keep looking!
  10. For an example of a good tracker, here is an image I believe of the fellow Ted Rudd.. looks like tracking palms up. From his videos his tracking was definitely top notch and at 45 degrees if not better. edit: picture didn't show up the first time
  11. Thanks very much for the info Koppel, I am actually going back to Canada soon but I'll keep those points in mind none the less. I've been meaning to call you about my wings rig but haven't had time.. soon
  12. It's easy to estimate just compare resulting path (glide angle) Or even more simple - who do you think will wly further horizontally from the same exit altitude till same deployment alti? I would love to compare some data, but I don't have a gps to test this out with. What I've been doing is looking where I started over the ground, looking where I finish, and making a note of the altitudes. Then one can use google maps to get a rough idea. Just last weekend I did tracking and angles and man, angles seems so much faster.. at about 5000' 4000' the ground just goes by quicker, quite noticable.
  13. Its pretty loud. I put it inside my helmet with the beeper hole facing out and can still hear it easily. Does what it's supposed to do.
  14. The pilot opens really nicely on heading unless you pack it badly. It always seems to open soft I've only had one snappy opening not hard, just quicker than normal and that was when I threw the PC real hard. I find the flare to be okay but it's different from the PD canopies.
  15. Happy Canada Day Peeps! Another Canadian Stuck in Australia!
  16. I've been running into all sorts of questions lately about the gear.. I want to take a rigging course but dunno if I'm qualified, I just got APF B license
  17. I think this diagram is just to give a basic indication of the position.. and it does that fine. In the "atmo" position, the air does feel like its going head to toe, in reality, you will be at a small angle of attack. However, what you said in the quote is not true - cambered airfoils, or more simply shapes with greater curvature over the top than the underside can in fact produce lift at a zero angle of attack. The rig on one's back may be creating this effect but aerodynamics around a human are very complex and subtle. Whether Atmo can produce better lift to drag ratios than a track I am not sure. It is however operating farther away from the stall which means the speed will be greater (obviously). In a track, you may or may not be stalled.. as in flow separating off your back. The flying human is an extremely low aspect ratio aerofoil, which means that we stall at very (high 20 - 30 degree, perhaps) angles of attack. It would be useful to look at the results for delta wings of small AR and compare them to how we fly...
  18. I read most of that guy Douggs' book and he talks about it a lot.. haven't read the actual novel though
  19. Most dropzone's aren't that great... but I have come across a couple that I liked a lot.
  20. Thanks jerry. Yes, they suggested I take some photos so it can be adjusted. I'll take it to the rigger before it gets sent back and see what they think about the fit.. also for the disassembly. I might have to wait till I get back to Canada to ship it in.. otherwise i'll have a reserve main etc in parts to bring back in my baggage.. not sure how that would go.
  21. If I jump in a T-shirt I don't pull it through the rings, but through the leg straps so it doesn't cover the handles. I heard from several people it was okay to remove the hairs with a lighter as long as I didn't burn the webbing, and I did do this however I was going to take it to the APF rigger so he could see it before I made a jump. I think at this point I will just send it back to the factory. The wings guys said it would only be a 2 day turnaround. I guess this is a lesson learned leave any of these issues even minor to the riggers. edited for spelling
  22. The hip rings are stainless steel. They have the letters HR on them and a pentagon with the letter W inside.
  23. edited to put pics in 1st post
  24. more attachments.. will only let me put 2 in the first post 1 in the reply
