  1. "friedman was just a bean counter..." Milton Friedman an Actuary..? The global community is laffing at your evaluation. OK.... Apply some Keynes to the debate.
  2. "Also note that predictions are easiest to perform when you get strong signals. The problem is that we can't filter out signal from noise because of things like minimum wages that make true market conditions impossible to figure out." True......... Those "strong signals" have to pass through too many political and National interest filters before they get to the global evaluation and/or prediction phase. Forget formulation of policy and implementation. That "tweaked" data would be long out of date and useless by that stage. What is that phrase about people who stand in a circle and......?
  3. And..? It's still off the mark, unrealistic, and a proven fallacy. I suggest you read up on Milton Friedman..... True, you may find it distasteful, as he was an American Nobel prize recipient.
  4. An interesting, article, but an article that is dated by ohhhhh...... thirty years. Not to mention that it's denial of reality is stupid. Below is the only reality based paragraph in the article. National regulators may only be interested in a quite narrow subset of the data for the institutions for which they have responsibility. These data could be part of, or distinct from, the global architecture. Where will the global community find these regulatory "angels" who will be so selfless? This notion that an entity that has the influence to guide a global financial network will be effective is "pie in the sky", misty eyed liberal dream-dancing. Each country has and pursues differing interests, and goals. Brazil's goals would be, and are, immensely different, if not in opposition, to those of Holland. Since the EU is the lab rat model, and is failing, to suggest that the concept be advanced to a planetary level is foolish. As if the Chinese actually would be willing to accommodate, to their possible temporary detriment, a non-oil producing nation in distress. Ridiculous.
  5. They would not live there very long. Unless, of course they were part of the hypocritical elite. The Limo Liberal type. As Expats in a foreign land, they might do well, as long as the kingdom knew that their family kept them supplied with a steady cash flow. #4...Apples and Oranges--Broadcast Journalism is run by PRIVATE Companies, who can hire anyone they want. The MOD, a Government Agency, is supposed to take the best and brightest, not someone's kid simply because they're someone's kid. Now if Chelsea Clinton was admitted to West Point simply because of her Dad, that'd be similar. Excellent reply.
  6. "While your contribution is appreciated it was really the Russians that made the biggest difference when it came to defeating the Third Reich." What..? Embarrassing. Read a book written by those Allied commanders who strategically managed WW2. If the US had not been the Arsenal of Freedom, supplying the Russians and keeping them alive, Moscow would have been lost. The Russians then would have zero alternative other than a retreat deeper to the east. Back deeper towards Asia. The Russians would have then had a very small contribution to the European theater and would have concentrated on the war with the Japanese. Which would have probably been a horrific stalemate. The history of Europe would be hugely different, as the atomic weapons being developed by Germany doubtlessly would have been used on Britain. The V2 delivery system was already developed and in use with conventional explosives. No Britain, no D-Day. No D-Day, no Allied victory. The Russians paid heavily in lives lost in WW2. However massed WW1 type attacks against WW2 weapons was a major factor in Russian casualties, as was proven in Finland and again later in Stalingrad and lesser known battles. All accepted as fact by those who managed WW2.
  7. Go back and review what you wrote! You said Dartmoor! The way you tell it, this must've been around the last of the 19th. century! Chuck Dartmoor is a swamp, isn't it? I'm no Vaquero by any stretch of the word, but I don't think that you can raise cattle in a swamp. I stand open to correction.
  8. If, one can handle all that humidity! Here in West Texas, it got to 10-below zero (daytime temps.) for several days, last winter. We lost a lot of new calves. Plumbers couldn't keep-up, repairing frozen pipes. Summer came and we had upwards to 110 - 115 deg. temps. We have two seasons... winter and summer! Chuck ...and the work never lets up, either winter or summer, I'll wager.
  9. i grew up on a working farm - you wouldn't have survived one winter... You live in Thailand. The winters are usually milder there, compared to, say west Texas, Colorado or Alaska, Germany, Poland, Russia and so forth. Most people, who are not in delicate health or afraid of work, could easily survive.
  10. The UN Charter, ch VII art 51 allows Israel to fire back, without sanction. Nothing in the present Charter shall impair the inherent right of individual or collective self-defence if an armed attack occurs against a Member of the United Nations, until the Security Council has taken measures necessary to maintain international peace and security. Measures taken by Members in the exercise of this right of self-defence shall be immediately reported to the Security Council and shall not in any way affect the authority and responsibility of the Security Council under the present Charter to take at any time such action as it deems necessary in order to maintain or restore international peace and security. The issue of Lebanon control over Iranian controlled Hezbola is a Lebanese problem. If Lebanon doesn't like hebrew arty blasting it's real estate, then Lebanon should get on with controlling its own sovereign territory. Much like the US needs to get a grip on the US/Mexican border. It is not unbelievable that by complaining to the UN, the Lebanese are screaming rape about hezbola and looking for some larger form of help from the UN. The religious component here is indeed the "stealth" thrust of this whole thread. You are dead on. Bullseye.
  11. Milton Friedman, the Nobel prize recipient for economic sciences, stated pretty much the same thing. Too bad he passed away in 2006.
  12. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CqlE9eNWYj4 Dang, I can't get it to be a clicky. Helfe.......
  13. An Afghan "warrior" against a tank...! The Russians used Afghan "warriors" to grease the treads of their tanks.
  14. "And any Afghanistan warrior can outdo an American tank at any time." Please expand on this statement. For those of us who have actually been in wars, this should be amusing.
  15. A single shooting? Hell, man, in Miami we have four to five every day. Keep in mind, that as long as you're not hit, it's a good day.

  17. So you support the beating of wives and children. Got it. Thanks for clarifying your position. Lawyer: Do you or do you not still beat your wife and children? Respondent:.... Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh....
  18. Repealing the 19th Amendment should dry up that population.
  19. See post #10. When I first started, I was at a DZ less than 10 miles from where arguably the #1 team in the US jumped. You wanna talk about a closed circle.!!! Eventually things came together. Look for someone at your skill level, as new folks are generally always arriving, and buddy up. Build from there, AND welcome the noobs. Enjoy the greatest sport there is.
  20. Sky Jumping is a manly sport, for manly menz. No babes allowed. (that outta get things moving.. this is gonna be good) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lC2u_24kdCg&feature=g-vrec

    HR 1955

Interesting..... From WiKi. Contrary to popular belief, the Posse Comitatus Act does not prohibit members of the Army from exercising state law enforcement, police, or peace officer powers that maintain "law and order"; it simply requires that any orders to do so must originate with the United States Constitution or Act of Congress. The statute only addresses the US Army and the US Air Force. It does not refer to, and thus does not implicitly apply to nor restrict units of the National Guard under federal authority from acting in a law enforcement capacity within the United States. The Navy and Marine Corps are prohibited by a Department of Defense directive, (self-regulation,) not by the Act itself.[1][2] Although it is a military force,[3] the U.S. Coast Guard, which now operates under the Department of Homeland Security, is also not covered by the Posse Comitatus Act. As of December 3, 2011, the Posse Comitatus Act is under threat of repeal from the National Defense Authorization Act.[4]

    HR 1955

HR1955 has died in committee every year since it was initially introduced in 2007. I'm wondering if there has been a blending of several bills in this discussion?
